North of Keith, wrapped in a bog they call the Foggie Moss, a distillery has been quietly building a reputation for well over a century. Aultmore rarely gets to speak for itself – most of what it makes disappears into Dewar's blends before anyone notices. Every so often, though, a single cask gets pulled aside, and this time it's Cadenhead's turn to let it shine.
The Expert's Description
Aultmore-Glenlivet 15 Year Original Collection is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in Manzanilla Sherry casks and bottled at 46%.
Aultmore-Glenlivet is the distillery's old-fashioned name – back when many Speyside distilleries tacked "Glenlivet" onto their label to borrow a little of their famous neighbour's shine, and Cadenhead's still keeps the tradition alive on its bottlings. Most of what comes out of Aultmore's quiet stills goes straight into Dewar's blends, so a standalone release like this one is a rare find. The whisky was distilled in 2011 and has spent time since 2022 in fresh Manzanilla Sherry casks, where Aultmore's light, grassy spirit has taken on the dry, saline sweetness of the sherry. It's part of Cadenhead's Original Collection – the bottler's more accessible range, which still sticks to the house rules: no chill filtration and no added colouring, so nothing the cask gave the whisky has been stripped or dyed away along the way.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Ripe nectarines and orange liqueur open things up, with a sweet macaroon note sitting just underneath.
Palate
Caramelised sugar and stroopwafel meet a warm ginger spice, while juicy peaches keep it fresh and light.
Finish
The finish is buttery with a touch of cocoa, before an unexpected smoked paprika and a cinnamon-laced syrup round it off.

Did You Know?
Aultmore has no visitor centre and barely gets a mention in Dewar's own marketing – it's one of Scotland's most tightly kept distilleries, even though its whisky was reportedly a key part of the deal when Bacardi bought John Dewar & Sons from Diageo in 1998.
