North of Keith, wrapped in a bog they call the Foggie Moss, a distillery has been quietly building a reputation for well over a century. Aultmore rarely gets to speak for itself – most of what it makes disappears into Dewar's blends before anyone notices. Every so often, though, a single cask gets pulled aside, and this time it's Cadenhead's turn to let it shine.

    The Expert's Description

Aultmore-Glenlivet 15 Year Original Collection is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in Manzanilla Sherry casks and bottled at 46%.

Aultmore-Glenlivet is the distillery's old-fashioned name – back when many Speyside distilleries tacked "Glenlivet" onto their label to borrow a little of their famous neighbour's shine, and Cadenhead's still keeps the tradition alive on its bottlings. Most of what comes out of Aultmore's quiet stills goes straight into Dewar's blends, so a standalone release like this one is a rare find. The whisky was distilled in 2011 and has spent time since 2022 in fresh Manzanilla Sherry casks, where Aultmore's light, grassy spirit has taken on the dry, saline sweetness of the sherry. It's part of Cadenhead's Original Collection – the bottler's more accessible range, which still sticks to the house rules: no chill filtration and no added colouring, so nothing the cask gave the whisky has been stripped or dyed away along the way.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe nectarines and orange liqueur open things up, with a sweet macaroon note sitting just underneath.

    Palate

Caramelised sugar and stroopwafel meet a warm ginger spice, while juicy peaches keep it fresh and light.

    Finish

The finish is buttery with a touch of cocoa, before an unexpected smoked paprika and a cinnamon-laced syrup round it off.

    Did You Know?

Aultmore has no visitor centre and barely gets a mention in Dewar's own marketing – it's one of Scotland's most tightly kept distilleries, even though its whisky was reportedly a key part of the deal when Bacardi bought John Dewar & Sons from Diageo in 1998.

Frequently Asked Questions About Aultmore-Glenlivet 15 Year Original Collection

What makes Aultmore-Glenlivet 15 Year Original Collection special?

It's a rare standalone bottling from a distillery whose whisky almost always ends up in Dewar's blends. Cadenhead's moved the whisky into a Manzanilla Sherry cask in 2022 and bottled it 15 years after distillation, with no chill filtration and no added colouring.

Is Aultmore-Glenlivet 15 Year worth it?

Yes, not least because Aultmore as a standalone single malt is hard to come by – the vast majority of the distillery's casks disappear into blends. Combining 15 years of maturation with a Manzanilla cask makes this a rare chance to taste the distillery entirely on its own terms.

Should Aultmore-Glenlivet 15 Year be drunk neat or with ice?

Try it neat first, or with a few drops of water at room temperature. Ice dulls the soft Sherry notes and delicate fruit character the cask has given the whisky.

What's the best glass for Aultmore-Glenlivet 15 Year?

A narrow whisky glass such as a Glencairn brings out the aromas best, letting the nectarine and the smoked paprika in the finish separate out. See our range of whisky glasses.

Why is it called Aultmore-Glenlivet rather than just Aultmore?

It's an old convention from a time when several Speyside distilleries added "Glenlivet" to their name to signal quality and style, back when Glenlivet itself was the most famous whisky in the region. Cadenhead's still uses these historic names on its labels.

    What is Cadenhead's Original Collection?

It's Cadenhead's more accessible range of single-cask bottlings, where the bottler still sticks to its core principles of no chill filtration and no added colouring. The series gives access to distilleries rarely seen as standalone single malts, Aultmore included.
