There's frost in the air over the Kintyre peninsula, and behind Springbank's walls, time has been allowed to work quietly. This bottle comes from a single cask, filled in October 1999, long before anyone knew it would end up as a tribute to a hundred years of Danish wine trading. 26 years later, it stands as one of the rarest Springbank releases ever to leave the warehouse.

Expert's Description of Springbank 26 Years Single Cask Juuls 100th Anniversary

Springbank 26 Years Single Cask Juuls 100th Anniversary is a solo release from a single cask, filled directly in Campbeltown with no artificial colour and no chill-filtration. The whisky was distilled in October 1999 and spent its first 20 years in a first-fill sherry cask, before being transferred in 2019 to a refill bourbon cask, where it matured for a further six years. The cask yielded exactly 108 bottles at natural cask strength, 44.1%.

The release marks the 100th anniversary of Juuls Vin & Spiritus, which has imported Springbank to the Danish market since 1926, and was first unveiled at an anniversary tasting in January 2026.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dried figs, raisins and a touch of sherry sweetness mingle with salty sea air and a hint of beeswax. Underneath it all lies the gentle smokiness Campbeltown is known for.

    Palate

Full-bodied and slightly oily, with caramelised sugar, dark chocolate and ripe stone fruit. Six years in the bourbon cask has softened the edges and added a touch of vanilla and toasted oak, without stealing the depth of the sherry.

    Finish

Long, salty and slightly dry, with a closing hint of spiced ginger and a lingering smokiness that stays with you long after the last sip.

    Investment Potential

High. With only 108 bottles from a single cask, 26 years of maturation and a story tied closely to one of Denmark's oldest wine merchants, this is one of the most sought-after Springbank releases in recent memory. Bottles from similarly rare Springbank single cask releases typically trade for several times their original retail price shortly after selling out.

  • Bottle of Stauning 1st Edition Traditional first ever Stauning whisky 2012
    Item no.: B22227865400-10

It started with seven amateurs in a slaughterhouse building. On 30 June 2012 Stauning released its first whisky – and this bottle is one of the 728 examples.

    Expert description

Stauning 1st Edition Traditional 2009/2012 is a Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 63.3% and matured for 3 years. Distilled in 2009 and released on 30 June 2012. Only 728 bottles. It is the very first Stauning whisky ever released to the market – a historic bottle in Danish whisky history.

Stauning Whisky opened in 2005 in an old slaughterhouse building in Skjern, and the early years were marked by passion, experimentation and almost no resources. 1st Edition is an expression of all that: raw, powerful and with a historical significance that transcends any tasting note.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Powerful and complex. Malt, dried fruit, honey and a touch of oak. The 63.3% is present but approachable with a little water.

    Palate

Intense malt and fruit notes with oak spice and a warm, full-bodied core. Strong but well-balanced for its ABV.

    Finish

Long and warm with malt sweetness and warmth that lingers. A historic finish.

It is made from a blend of peated and unpeated malt, giving a balanced combination of smoke character and sweetness. An anniversary bottling marking 20 years of world-class Danish whisky.

Stauning Whisky opened in 2005 and grew from seven amateurs with a passion for whisky to one of the world's most acclaimed craft distilleries. The 20th Anniversary Edition is the first 10-year-old expression from the distillery – a milestone in itself – and one of the most complex releases in Stauning's history.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Elegant smoke with dark fruits, dried apricots and a hint of heather blossom. The maturation time is evident – there is depth here.

    Palate

Peated malt and fruit sweetness in fine balance. Chocolate, nuts and light pepper. Ten years in cask give a roundness not seen in the shorter expressions.

    Finish

    Item no.: 2265400-6695

Skjern, 2009. The distillery is four years old and the team is still figuring out what Stauning can become. This bottle is the answer from back then.

    Expert description

Stauning 2nd Edition Peated 2009/2012 is a Danish Peated Single Malt Whisky distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2012 at cask strength 62.8%. It is one of Stauning's very first commercial bottlings – distilled just four years after the distillery opened and released while the whisky's DNA was still taking shape. The peated profile comes from floor-malted peated malt, and the high cask strength reflects an uncompromising approach to bottling.

Stauning Whisky opened in 2005 with seven amateurs and rough grain. 2nd Edition Peated represents the earliest stage of a distillery that has since grown into one of the world's most acclaimed. Finding a bottle today is equivalent to owning a piece of Danish whisky's renaissance.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Peat, smoke and a youthful freshness. Bonfire, green notes and a light citrus edge that reveals the short maturation time.

    Palate

Smoke and salt with a spiced core. Cask strength is evident, but malt and sweetness sit behind it. Raw energy and early Stauning character.

    Finish

Long and warm with ash, peat and a light bitterness. It stays with you.

    Item no.: 22227865400-508

Heather on the moors of West Jutland. Stauning has used it since the beginning – an ingredient that gives HEATHER its floral and honeyed character.

    Expert description

Stauning HEATHER September 2017 is a Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 48.7% and made with heather added during the drying of the malt. Distilled 2013-2014 and released in September 2017. Heather is a traditional ingredient in Nordic brewing and distilling, and Stauning revives the tradition in the HEATHER series. The result is a whisky with a unique floral and honeyed profile – clearly different from the rest of Stauning's range.

HEATHER is one of Stauning's most original expressions. It is not just a variation on a theme – it is a whisky that could not come from any other region. The Jutland heather moor is the invisible ingredient.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Heather and wildflowers, light fruits and a discreet honey sweetness. Very aromatic and fresh.

    Palate

Floral and sweet with malt, honey and heather tones. Light spice and a mild fruit core. Elegant and different.

Stauning KAOS is the opposite of the system – a multi-malt whisky that blends grain types instead of keeping to one. The 2016 edition is one of the earliest releases and sets the standard for the series.

    Expert description

Stauning KAOS 2016 is a Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 46.5% and made from a blend of malted grain types. Distilled 2011-2013 and released in February 2016. KAOS is Stauning's most complex expression – a counterpoint to the peated single malts, characterised by fruity, creamy notes and elegant complexity. The bottling is non-chill filtered.

Stauning Whisky opened in 2005 in Skjern and has since earned international recognition for its floor malting and copper pot distillation of Danish grain. KAOS represents the experimental side of the distillery – each batch is a new composition.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fruity and creamy with apricot jam, vanilla and a hint of citrus. A light oak note in the background.

    Palate

Full and smooth. Peach, honey and caramel with a spiced oak finish. Well balanced.

KAOS is Stauning's answer to whisky complexity. Each batch is a new blend, and no two releases taste the same. The June 2018 edition is one of the fruitier ones, with a core of peach and apricot carrying the whisky all the way through.

    Tasting notes

Stauning PEATED is the distillery's smoky flagship in an age that shows what Danish peated malt can become with six years in cask.

    Expert description

Stauning PEATED 7th Edition 2012/2018 is a Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 48.4% and matured for a minimum of 6 years. Distilled in 2012 and released in 2018. 2,293 bottles produced. Made from peated barley malt, floor-malted in-house at Stauning and double distilled in copper pot stills. Non-chill filtered with natural colour.

The PEATED series is Stauning's answer to classic smoky whisky – but with a Danish identity. This is not Islay imitation: the smoke is integrated, balanced and supported by Danish grain's sweetness. The 7th edition is one of the most mature in the series' early chapter.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Peat smoke and malt with a little honey, citrus and dried fruit behind. Six years in cask gives a roundness the younger editions lack.

    Palate

    Expert description

Stauning Peated Festival 2018 is a Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at cask strength 59.9%. It belongs to Stauning's limited festival series – editions produced in small quantities for specific whisky events. The peated style draws on malt smoked with peat from Stauning's own West Jutland bogs, producing a clean, distinctive smoke character with genuine local terroir. With high bottling strength and low total production, this is a bottle with clear appeal for dedicated collectors of Danish whisky.

    Tasting notes

The malt is peated and the whisky was finished in port wine casks, which add a dark fruitiness that blends with the smoke. The bottling is part of Stauning's Cask Strength series – undiluted and non-chill filtered.

Stauning Whisky was founded in 2005 in Skjern and works with Danish grain, floor malting and copper pot distillation. Port Smoke is one of the more experimental releases, showing what happens when the distillery's smoky signature meets the sweetness and depth of port wine. The result has two clearly identifiable layers.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Smoke and dark fruits open together – prunes, blackcurrant and a slightly spiced, almost winey undercurrent.

    Palate

Full-bodied smoke with clear port wine sweetness. Dried fruit, chocolate and a light resinous note. The 61.9% cask strength adds real heat.

    Finish

Long and complex with smoke, dark berries and a hint of bitter cocoa.

This Private Cask was commissioned and owned by Whisky.dk – a single cask from Stauning's distillery, selected, matured and bottled exclusively for our shelves. Malted rye differs from Stauning's standard rye by using 100% malted rye grain, resulting in a softer, sweeter and more complex profile with rye's characteristic spiced fruitiness. Distilled in 2011 and bottled five years later in 2017, this is a unique bottle that cannot be replicated.

    Expert description

Stauning Private Cask ROMMER Whisky.dk 6 Year 2010/2017 is a Danish Peated Single Malt Whisky bottled at cask strength 60.8%. ROMMER is the name given to this specific Private Cask, owned and matured by Whisky.dk for six years from 2010 to 2017. The peated style draws on Stauning's West Jutland peat, delivering a green and herbal smoke character. Six years brings more integration and depth than younger releases – the smoke is well-integrated with oak sweetness and a complexity that shorter maturations rarely achieve. At 60.8%, this is a powerful, undiluted version of Stauning's peated style.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Well-integrated smoke with a light herbal edge. Vanilla, gentle citrus and oak sweetness grow beneath the smoke.

    Item no.: 22227865400-19

In 2010, Stauning was still nine friends with a shared dream, working out of an old meat-processing plant in Skjern. This cask is from that era – three winters in Oloroso sherry wood, bottled in 2013 with sherry written all over it.

    Expert description

Stauning Traditional Oloroso Cask 2010/2013 is a Danish Single Malt Whisky matured in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 52.8%. The Traditional expression is Stauning's unpeated single malt built on malted barley – the foundation the distillery was built on. Oloroso is a dry sherry style rich in walnuts, dried fruit and raisins, and three years in these casks left a decisive mark. Stauning's small copper pot stills and intensive production method build character quickly, and that shows clearly in the glass. This is among the earliest commercial releases from the distillery, from a time when total production was vanishingly small.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dried apricots and raisins upfront. Vanilla, light oak and a nutty undercurrent from the sherry drum. A hint of dried orange peel.

Stauning Young Rye 2018 February is a Danish Rye Whisky bottled at 43.3% and distilled in 2014. Released February 2018 as the 16th edition in the Rye series. Made from 100% Danish rye malt, floor-malted in-house. 2,541 bottles. Non-chill filtered with natural colour.

The 2014 distillation year marks a point when Stauning was still a small team with a passionate approach to craft. These batches are expressions of the early Stauning – before the expansion and increased production.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Floral and lightly fruity with rye bread, honey and light blossom. Softer and more approachable than the stronger Young Rye expressions.

    Palate

Malt-sweet and lightly spiced. Rye core, mild pepper and a little citrus. Round and easy to enjoy.

    Finish

Short to moderate with malt sweetness and light spice.

Stauning Young Rye in an edition unlike any other. Ryes Brigade is the distillery's salute to the rye whisky faithful – packaged as a collector's set with two glasses.

    Expert description

Stauning Young Rye Ryes Brigade is a Danish Rye Whisky bottled at 48% and delivered as an exclusive collector's set including two whisky glasses. Young Rye is Stauning's flagship rye expression – made from Danish rye, floor-malted and distilled in copper pot stills in Skjern. Ryes Brigade is a special edition celebrating those who believed in the Danish rye whisky project from the start.

Stauning Whisky opened in 2005 with a simple mission: to prove that world-class whisky could be made in Denmark. Young Rye was one of the early expressions that defined the distillery's DNA. With Ryes Brigade, the collector's set is made complete – two glasses, one bottle and a statement that ties the whole project together.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh rye with light notes of citrus, vanilla and a mild, bright fruit sweetness. Young and lively.

    Palate

Spiced rye notes and light pepper. Vanilla and caramel from cask maturation. Lighter in build than most Stauning single malts.

    Finish

Shorter and fresh with rye and light sweetness. Clean and uncomplicated.
