    Item no.: 22227865400-508

Heather on the moors of West Jutland. Stauning has used it since the beginning – an ingredient that gives HEATHER its floral and honeyed character.

    Expert description

Stauning HEATHER September 2017 is a Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 48.7% and made with heather added during the drying of the malt. Distilled 2013-2014 and released in September 2017. Heather is a traditional ingredient in Nordic brewing and distilling, and Stauning revives the tradition in the HEATHER series. The result is a whisky with a unique floral and honeyed profile – clearly different from the rest of Stauning's range.

HEATHER is one of Stauning's most original expressions. It is not just a variation on a theme – it is a whisky that could not come from any other region. The Jutland heather moor is the invisible ingredient.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Heather and wildflowers, light fruits and a discreet honey sweetness. Very aromatic and fresh.

    Palate

Floral and sweet with malt, honey and heather tones. Light spice and a mild fruit core. Elegant and different.

  • Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 4 Speyside Single Malt Whisky bottle
    Item no.: 22227865428-5003

Tun 1509 is not a cask but a vat. A large, old wooden tun standing in warehouse 24, where whisky from several barrels is left to sit together for months until the edges have worn off and the whole thing speaks with one voice.

    The expert's description

Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 4 is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky matured in bourbon casks and sherry casks, married in Tun 1509 and bottled at 51.7 % without chill filtration.

The series works by having David Stewart select a small number of casks, empty them into the large wooden tun known as Tun 1509 and let the contents stand and find each other over several months. Batch 4 is assembled from 23 casks, few enough that each individual cask can still be felt.

Bottling happens without chill filtration and at high strength, so the oils and fatty acids filtration would otherwise strip out are allowed to stay. That gives a denser texture and a fuller mouthfeel than the standard bottlings of the distillery carry.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Honey, dried fruit and cinnamon. Behind it sit vanilla, ginger and a note of old oak.

    Palate

Full and oily with malt, honey and warm spice. The high strength gives it an edge without turning sharp.

    Finish

Long and warm with spice, dried fruit and a soft close of oak.

High above the Glenlivet valley sits a hill that once mattered a great deal to smugglers. Creag An Innean gave them a view over the road south, and an edge over the excisemen.

    Expert Description

Glenlivet Nordic Single Cask 2017 Creag An Innean is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky, drawn from a single Oloroso sherry cask at cask strength of 61.2%.

The whisky is a distillery bottling from The Glenlivet, released specifically for the Scandinavian market, with only 618 bottles from this one Spanish Oloroso sherry cask (cask no. 58013). The name Creag An Innean refers to a hill near the distillery that, in the 19th century, served as a lookout point for whisky smugglers heading south to the market in Dundee, a place from which they could watch for excisemen and plan their routes well in advance.

    Tasting Notes

    Expert description

Thy Whisky Fad no 6 Kræn Kræmmer is a Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 50.4% in a 70 cl bottle. Distilled and matured at Thy Whisky Distillery in Thy. • Caol Ila 15 Years Unpeated Style 2018 official bottle without peat smoke
    Item no.: 22227865462-1000

Once a year, Caol Ila does something unexpected: they stop the peat and malt barley with untouched grain. The result is Caol Ila Unpeated Style – a window into what the distillery tastes like once smoke is taken out of the equation.

    Expert's description

Caol Ila 15 Years Unpeated Style 2018 is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottled in 2018 at cask strength 59.1% – one of the distillery's rarest official releases. Here the barley has been malted without peat.

Unpeated Style is a limited annual release Diageo has produced since the early 2000s, primarily for the Feis Ile festival on Islay. The 2018 edition shows what 15 years in oak casks gives to a distillate not defined by smoke.

Without peat smoke, Caol Ila's true distillate character emerges – flowers, vanilla, fresh fruit and richness from maturation. It is a different Caol Ila from the one people know, and for those accustomed to the island's smoke, it can feel almost foreign. That is precisely what makes it fascinating.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Floral and fruity – apple, pear and white flowers. Vanilla and honey from the oak, with a creamy sweetness that has no parallel in the peated bottlings.

    Palate

Rich and full without smoke's structure. Ripe fruit – peach, apricot – with soft oak and an almost diaphanous sweetness. Cask strength gives warmth and depth.

    Finish

Long and slightly exotic. Vanilla, ripe fruits and a note of floral honey – completely unlike the familiar biting close of smoke.

Every story has a first chapter. For Kilchoman, this bottle was it — the very first whisky the distillery ever sent out into the world, and the proof that a small farm distillery on Islay could make something people would remember.

    Expert's description

Kilchoman Inaugural Release is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 3 years old and bottled at 46 %.

The whisky was released in 2009 and is the very first bottle of malt whisky Kilchoman ever put its name to. It was matured for between 2.5 and 3 years in bourbon casks, before receiving a finishing period of 6 months in sherry casks — a recipe that set the tone for much of what the distillery has since become known for.

The release was met with considerable acclaim from the start, including 92 points from the respected publication Malt Advocate — an unusually high accolade for a distillery still in its absolute infancy.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Young, energetic peat smoke meets citrus peel and a sweetness of honey and vanilla from the sherry finish.

    Palate

Glentauchers is a distillery most people only know from blends – but this 19 year old single cask bottling from Signatory Vintage shows what the spirit can do when it's allowed to stand alone.

    Expert's Description

Glentauchers 1996/2015 was distilled in the mid-1990s and bottled in November 2015 by independent bottler Signatory Vintage, after 19 years of maturation in two bourbon casks, Cask No. #1407 and #1408.

The whisky is bottled at 49.9% with natural colour. 328 bottles were filled from the two casks, making this a fairly limited release.

    Tasting Notes

Soft fruit, honey and a light vanilla tone from the bourbon casks.

    Palate

Round and elegant, with pear, caramel and a hint of spice.

    Did You Know?

Glentauchers is primarily used as a key ingredient in well-known blended whiskies such as Buchanan's and Ballantine's, and it's relatively rare to find the spirit bottled as a single malt.

  • Highland Park Dannebrog bottle at cask strength
    Item no.: 22227865388-322

Some names leave no doubt who they're made for. Dannebrog is Highland Park's tribute to the Danish market — a 13-year-old release bottled at cask strength, well beyond the strength of the distillery's standard releases.

    Expert Description

Highland Park Dannebrog is a Single Orkney Malt Whisky, 13 years old and bottled at cask strength 60.3%.

The name is a direct nod to the Danish flag and to Highland Park's long relationship with the Danish whisky market. At 60.3%, it's considerably stronger than the distillery's standard releases, giving a more intense and concentrated expression of the characteristic Orkney style.

The high strength means the whisky tolerates — and often benefits from — a few drops of water, which opens up the layers of spice, fruit and peat.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Toasted malt and dark honey meet a warm, spiced peat and a hint of dried fruit.

    Palate

Intense and full-bodied, with caramel, ginger and a distinct, warming peat smoke.

    Finish

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Restrained, mature peat alongside a soft sweetness that only truly shows after so many years on cask.

  • Glendronach Luke Skywalker bottle with deep mahogany sherried whisky
    Item no.: 22227865458-125

First came Darth Vader, then Yoda, and now Luke Skywalker. The names are the Danish whisky retailers' own joke, and the last one is a nod to Billy Walker — the man who lifted Glendronach out of obscurity, and whose surname fitted a little too well.

    The expert's description

Glendronach 10 Year Old Luke Skywalker is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and bottled at 48%.

The bottling was made officially for professional Danish whisky retailers in an outturn of around 3,000 bottles, sold only on the Danish market. The whisky sits entirely in PX sherry casks, the sweetest and most concentrated sherry type, and it is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

Glendronach is built on sherry. Since 1826 the distillery has matured its whisky in Spanish oak casks from the bodegas of Andalucía, so a ten year old entirely in PX is not a side step but a concentrated version of the house style.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dark sherry and raisin, with fig, dark chocolate and a layer of spice. The youth registers as a fresh berry note beneath the heavy fruit.

    Palate

Full and sweet. Raisin, dates and dark chocolate, with a firm spiced middle. The 48% gives the whisky the weight a ten year old would otherwise lack against this much sherry.

    Finish

Long. Dark fruit and cocoa drying slowly into a lightly bitter, nutty close.

    Expert description

Kininvie 17 Years Old Batch 001 is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 42.6%. Batch 001 was, in 2016, the very first single malt Kininvie ever released under its own name, after decades in which the spirit was used exclusively in blends. It is matured in ex-bourbon casks, which highlight Kininvie's soft, fruity base character — a style closer to Balvenie than to Glenfiddich.

    Expert Description

Glenlivet Coupar Angus 15 Year Old Limited Edition is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky, drawn straight from a single sherry cask at cask strength of 57.9%.

The whisky is a distillery bottling, released exclusively to be shared between the four Nordic countries, with only 564 bottles of this specific release reaching Scandinavia. The cask has spent 15 years maturing in American white oak and belongs to what the distillery calls its Nordic Cask series, single casks selected specifically for the Nordic market. Yamazakura means "wild mountain cherry blossom" - a fitting name for a whisky from the rugged, beautiful mountain landscape of the Tohoku region.

    Expert Description

Yamazakura 16 Year Old is a Blended Japanese Whisky, bottled at 40%.

The whisky comes from Sasanokawa Shuzo, a sake and shochu brewer founded in 1765 in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, which has also made whisky since 1946. The Yamazakura brand was revived in 2015 with the reopening of Asaka Distillery, and this 16 year old shows the depth of the company's older stocks.

  • Highland Park Thorfinn Warrior Series bottle in dark lacquered box
    Item no.: 22227865388-314

Thorfinn once ruled the whole of Orkney and carried the nickname "the Mighty". Highland Park has given the same title to one of the most sherry-driven expressions in The Warrior Series — a whisky that doesn't ask permission before filling the glass with dark fruit and spiced oak.

    Expert Description

Highland Park Thorfinn The Warrior Series is a Single Orkney Malt Whisky matured in European sherry oak and bottled at 45.1%.

The whisky is named after Earl Thorfinn Sigurdsson, who according to saga once controlled the whole of Orkney. Unlike several other releases in The Warrior Series, Thorfinn is matured exclusively in European, Spanish oak, of which more than half are first-fill sherry casks — an unusually high share that gives the whisky its dark, concentrated character.

The result is one of the most powerful and sherry-driven releases in the series, built for the enthusiast seeking depth and complexity over lightness.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cedarwood, camphor and mango meet coriander, a spicy smokiness and the scent of vanilla pods.

    Palate

Very complex, with ginger root to the fore, followed by smoked oak and dark fruit.

    Finish

Complex and lingering, spiced with a trail of smoke and oak.
