The old mill has been given a new lease of life in the form of an expertly run single malt whisky distillery. True to the legacy of its predecessors, Deanston Distillery follows whisky-making principles that are as old as the small community that surrounds the distillery. Everything is done by hand - no modern technology is used at Deanston! The best Scottish ingredients are used to help create this unique single malt and the barley is grown in the surrounding fields. Old traditions are combined with new, offering Deanston a genuine alternative for the curious public. An approachable dram that has its roots in the wonderfully solid village environment. Master Distiller, Ian MacMillan, transferred this single malt whisky from the original 'Hogshead' casks to carefully selected 'firstfill' Kentucky bourbon casks and sent these for further maturation in the heart of the traditional warehouses at the Deanston distillery. With their metre-thick stone walls and vaulted ceilings, these unique buildings maintain the same temperature all year round, ensuring a smooth and even maturation. Here, in the quietest part of the warehouse, the casks have lain dormant undisturbed and were only brought to life when Master Distiller Ian MacMillan was convinced of the quality and excellence of the contents.
