Distillery: Stauning Dansk Whisky / Danish Whisky Age: NA Distilled: 2013 Bottled: February 2017 Type: Stauning Malted Rye Whisky Alc. strength: 48,4% Number of bottles: 2377 pcs. 50 cl. Other: The 14th edition of Rye - Released February 2017 - Stauning Young Rye Dansk Rug Whisky
Stauning YOUNG RYE - February 2017 This is a WHISKY. It is over 3 years old...MALTED RYE WHISKY. As always, produced from floor malted grains (barley and rye). The maturation has taken place in Virgin American White Oak casks. The aging in this type of barrel gives plenty of color and flavor that perfectly matches the complex rye. Info: - 50 cl - 48.4 % vol. - Distilled 2013 - Bottled February 2017 - Not chill filtered - Number of bottles bottled: 2377 NOTE: Unfiltered - Some sediment may be present. TASTING NOTES: This one is warm, friendly and fresh at the same time, spicy, bold, full-bodied and seems considerably older than its age suggests. You can clearly sense the rye/raw fruit and recognize the smell of freshly baked rye bread. There are notes of caramel, brown sugar, honey, vanilla, licorice, pepper, dried fruit, apple and oak in both aroma and taste. Young Rye contains only malted rye and a small amount of malted barley. This makes it very special on a global scale. Rye is difficult to handle and even more so when it's wet and needs to be malted. For this reason, rye malting is not common in larger distilleries. At Stauning, virtually all processes are done by hand, which means we can handle the malting of rye and you can taste it in the finished product. Connoisseurs will know that rye whiskey is predominantly an American phenomenon, but our enthusiasm for rye whiskey led us to try to emulate the Americans.

    - Reviews in Whisky Bible 2013 - It was of course with great excitement that we read Jim Murray's review of three more bottles from Stauning Whisky in the Whisky Bible 2013. You can't help but hope for the best and fear the worst. Fortunately, the fears were put to rest. Last year, Stauning Rye - First impression was awarded a whopping 88 points. This year, we had to see how it would go for:Stauning Whisky 1st Edition - Traditional Stauning Whisky 1st Edition - Peated Stauning Rye - Third solution We are proud of all three bottles, and this has not diminished with the positive words and the great rating in the Whisky Bible 2013.Stauning Whisky 1st Edition - Traditional was awarded 87 points. We are proud that we have succeeded in making a genuine Danish single malt whisky that achieves such a high score. After all, it's only three years old, but it's happy to compete with older and more established bottles. As Jim Murray writes: "What a way to enter the world whisky stage."Stauning Rye - Third solution had to try to live up to the 88 points that Stauning Rye - First impression got. Fortunately, it did very well, scoring 92 points. He goes on to say that our Rye has the potential to become a "World classic". Then it's just our job to live up to it in the coming years. Finally, we have Stauning Whisky 1st Edition - Peated. We knew ourselves that we had made a good whisky here. But the fact that the first smoked whisky we release gets 94 points and is awarded the the Whisky Bible Liquid Gold Award is a bit unreal. Of course, we are very happy that it is among the small group of whiskies that score 94 points or more and are thus awarded this award.

It's great when our uncompromising approach to making Danish whisky of the highest quality is rewarded. Jim Murray's closing remark to his description of Peated 1st Edition is short and sweet: "Absolutely adore it!" For those of you who don't have a copy of the Whisky Bible, here's what the ratings mean in Jim Murray's own words: 85 - 89.5 Very good to excellent whiskies definitely worth buying. 90 - 93.5 Brilliant 94 - 97.5 Superstars whiskies that gives us all a reason to live.
