Distillery: Highland Park Thorfinn Age: NA Type: Single Orkney Malt Whisky Alc. strength: 45.1% 70 cl. Other: with nice lacquer box
A dynamic and masterful example of Highland Park at its most accomplished, Thorfinn embraces all that is great in our revered single malt whisky. Intricately balanced, yet bold in its intentions; complex swathes of gentle peat smoke meet with wonderful notes of rich caramelized dried fruit, alongside an unctuous oakiness. Like its namesake, this is undoubtedly a whisky of supreme refinement and influence. The great chief Thorfinn, also known as 'The Mighty', was a man of much power and inspiration, at one stage controlling the whole of the Orkney Islands. Thorfinn is made from whisky matured in 100 % European (Spanish) oak. All sherry casks of course, and for Thorfinn more than 50 % are 1st fill sherry casks. After saving the people from the harsh rule inflicted by his brother Einar, Thorfinn is still celebrated for bringing change to the islands and his legacy lives on through this highly exclusive and exceptional release. Tasting Notes Colour: Dark russet, clear and bright Nose: Cedarwood, camphor, mango, coriander, spicy smokiness and vanilla pods Palate: Very complex, ginger root to the fore followed by smoked oak Finish: Complex lingering spiciness and smoke

Highland Park is produced at the world's northernmost distillery on the legendary Orkney Islands.Highland Park was built in 1798 on the very islands that were said to have belonged to a famous whisky smuggler. The smuggler, Magnus Eunson, enjoyed a strong position within the church and could therefore conduct his side business undisturbed. Who would want to search for the forbidden commodity under the pulpit? The unique character of Highland Park is due to the peat used as fuel when drying the grain. This peat has absorbed salty waves for centuries, giving a heathery note to the whisky. The whisky is aged in oak casks for at least 12 years. Little by little, the whisky matures and the fiery flavor mellows and the whisky achieves an exceptionally smooth character. A careful and time-consuming process that guarantees that this whisky reaches its perfection. Michael Jackson, author of many famous books on whisky describes Highland Park as the "the greatest all-rounder in the world of malt whisky"
