One cask, 564 bottles, four Nordic countries to share them. That is how the story of Coupar Angus begins, a bottle never meant for a large audience, and precisely for that reason so sought after.

    Expert Description

Glenlivet Coupar Angus 15 Year Old Limited Edition is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky, drawn straight from a single sherry cask at cask strength of 57.9%.

The whisky is a distillery bottling, released exclusively to be shared between the four Nordic countries, with only 564 bottles of this specific release reaching Scandinavia. The cask has spent 15 years maturing in American white oak and belongs to what the distillery calls its Nordic Cask series, single casks selected specifically for the Nordic market. The name Coupar Angus refers to a location near the distillery, in keeping with The Glenlivet's tradition of naming single cask releases after places in the area.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fruity with banana and orange, carried by sharpened pencils, nuts and a hint of clove. With water, more tropical fruit and a touch of dark berries such as blackcurrant and blackberry emerge.

    Palate

Sweet from the start with berries and citrus fruit, cinnamon and a creamy texture, where caramel and a touch of chocolate mingle with a peppery, tingling heat mid-palate.

    Finish

Long and spiced with notes of chocolate, caramel and liquorice, finished with a touch of fruit.

    Sherry-matured · Fruity · Spiced · Creamy

    Investment Potential

    Did You Know?

The Glenlivet is the second best-selling Scotch single malt in the world and already reached sales of 5.7 million litres in 2010, yet a bottle like this, drawn from a single cask for four countries, is far rarer than most of the distillery's other releases.

Frequently Asked Questions about Glenlivet Coupar Angus 15 Year Old

What makes Coupar Angus a rare bottle?

Only 564 bottles from this single sherry cask were bottled for the whole of Scandinavia, making it significantly rarer than The Glenlivet's standard core range.

Is this whisky worth the money?

The limited number of bottles, the cask strength and the direct single cask expression make Coupar Angus an interesting bottle for enthusiasts looking beyond the large, widely distributed releases.

    What does Nordic Cask mean?

Nordic Cask is the name of The Glenlivet's series of single cask releases, selected and bottled specifically for the Scandinavian market, often in very limited quantities.

Should I add water to a whisky at 57.9%?

Yes, feel free to. A few drops of water can open up the cask's fruity and spiced layers further and make the finer nuances on the nose easier to pick out.

What is The Guardians of The Glenlivet?

It is the distillery's own community for whisky enthusiasts, where members can follow new single cask releases and gain insight into the distillery's work with casks like this one. Sign-up happens through the distillery's official website.

How does Coupar Angus differ from Glenlivet's core range?

Where the core range is typically bottled at 40% and blended from many casks, Coupar Angus is a cask strength bottling from a single sherry cask, giving a far more concentrated and spiced experience.
