Today, it is the second best-selling Scottish single malt in the world, reaching sales of 5.7 million litres in 2010. The Glenlivet has a high profile and image among whisky connoisseurs and has received numerous international awards and accolades. The Glenlivet Distillery is located more than 300 meters above sea level in the Cairngorms National Park. According to British meteorological measurements, the area is the coldest place in the British Isles. It is one of nature's para-docs that the harsh winds and heavy snowfalls that often plague the gorge are indispensable elements in the production of the gentle, complex and elegant Speyside malt whisky, which has a light and delicate floral aroma. Tasting notes from www.whiskyflasken.dk:Nose: Very fruity with banana and orange. There is a lot of barrel in the nose that blocks many of the finer impressions. Sharpened pencils and nuts. Some cloves. With water, the dominance of the cask disappears and more fruits appear. Almost tropical fruits and some candied or baked pears. Vanilla and cinnamon. There's no doubt that this is a refill sherry cask and my gut feeling is that it's made from American oak, although I've heard otherwise. There are some dark berries, mostly reminiscent of blackcurrants and blackberries. The taste: Really sweet at first with berries, more banana and citrus fruits of indeterminate character. There's some cinnamon and it's all very creamy. There's some caramel and a little chocolate. About midway through the palette, it gets really peppery and starts to tingle on the tongue. It never really dries out the palate and you're left with a feeling of waiting for something more, which never really comes.Aftertaste: Long aftertaste, which is spicy and has notes of chocolate, caramel and liquorice.A little fruit. 85/100
