  Stauning Rye Floor Malted is a Danish Rye Whisky bottled at 48%. Stauning Whisky was founded in 2005 by nine friends in Skjern, West Jutland. Rye is the distillery's original expression and flagship from the very beginning. Made from locally grown rye and floor-malted barley – all malted on their own lofts. "Floor Malted" in the name is not a marketing gimmick: it is a genuine description of a technique they use every single day. Matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.

  Tasting notes

  Nose

  Fresh and spiced rye, light honey and a hint of blossom. Bread and soft vanilla. Not heavy, but with substance.

  Palate

  Spiced and direct. Rye grain and pepper, followed by sweet maltiness and light caramel. A trace of dried fruit from the sherry casks.

  Finish

  Medium length and spiced. The rye spice persists, followed by a clean, gentle sweetness.

  Soft, fruity smoke with green apple and vanilla cream. The smoke is present but restrained – it does not impose itself.

  The whisky is made by Sakurao Distillery in Hiroshima prefecture and matured in natural stone tunnels deep within the Chugoku mountains, where the constant low temperature allows for slow, even maturation. The name Togouchi comes from the mountain area itself, where the warehouses are located.
