Distillery: Big PeatBottler: Douglas LaingAge: NA Type: Blended Islay Malt Whisky Alc. strength: 46% 70 cl.
    Big Peat Douglas Laing
70 cl. / 46 % Blended Islay Malt Whisky Item No.: vmal2366 The whisky is a blend of Islay single malt that has been put together to produce this small batch bottling, which is not cold filtered. The whisky consists of single malt from: Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and Port Ellen. The result is exceptional. A complex blended malt. In technical terms, the whiskies are 'married', and here with a BIG PEAT kick. The whisky is smoked whisky with salty sea and smoke notes. Whisky connoisseurs will notice that great care has been taken to bring the taste of the sea to this fisherman's whisky. Truly a true sailor's whisky. Nose: Salty with bitter peat, strong peat and yet so light that you can sense citrus.
Palate: Peat from the first drop, with varying depths of oil and salt, moving into light vanilla and spice. Finish: A long and enchanting finish that blends the best of Islay together.BIG PEAT - "Vatted" Islay Malt But what exactly, you may ask, is a Vatted Malt? It is what the Scotch Whisky industry has traditionally called "a marriage of Malts". Such vattings often form the heart and soul of a blended scotch whisky (which carries the lighter tasting grain whisky, to soften matters). This vatting carries a big peaty (often called "phenolic"), beachy oceanic slightly ashy selection of Malts from the island of Islay, from where the Laing family hail - and no wonder! - as we have included Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and Port Ellen in the "recipe". Ally these lusty and robust Malts selected for BIG PEAT with the fact that no chill filtration takes place - a more old fashioned traditional approach - and you will detect a massive amplification of the anticipated sea-faring qualities on the nose, palate, and finish. These are particularly appreciated when consumed leisurely in the same style these Malts have waited for you in the cold, dark and windswept warehouses of Islay.
