Rebel Yell 100 Proof Cabernet Sauvignon Barrels Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the brand's wheated bourbon finished in cabernet sauvignon barrels, bottled at 50%. Rebel Yell was created in 1936 by Louisville's then-mayor Charles R. Farnsley to mark the 100th anniversary of the original Weller brand, with roots back to the Stitzel-Weller distillery of 1849. From the start, the brand used a wheated mash bill, giving it a softer, rounder character than a typical rye-based bourbon. After Stitzel-Weller closed in the early 1970s, the brand was acquired by Luxco, and since 2018 Rebel Yell has been distilled at the family's own distillery, Lux Row Distillers, in Bardstown, Kentucky.

Rossville Union 5 Year Master Crafted Straight Rye Whiskey has matured for 5 years, the brand's core expression, bottled at 47%. Rossville Union is named after the Rossville Distillery, founded in 1847 by George Ross in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, during rye's golden age. Ross built his distillery atop a water reservoir, providing limestone-filtered water that prevented sulphur and iron compounds from harming the whiskey's flavour. After Prohibition, the distillery was bought by Canadian company Seagram in 1933, and after several changes of ownership, MGP took over the site in 2011. What happens when you distil an imperial stout and mature the result in rum casks? Mikkeller and Braunstein found out — and landed on something soft, tropical and hard to categorise.

    Expert description

Rum Cask Black Mikkeller Spirits Small Batch is a Malt Spirit at 43%, distilled at Braunstein Distillery from Mikkeller Black, an imperial stout from Denmark's celebrated craft brewery Mikkeller. The collaboration combines Braunstein's distillation expertise with Mikkeller's brewing knowledge to create a spirit that sits outside easy classification. Palate

    Item no.: 0555-746

A halved orange, steaming spices and a glass of orange wine on the table — that is what Christmas tastes like when Scallywag tries something new.

    Expert's Description

Scallywag The Winter Edition 2024 Orange Wine Cask is a Speyside Blended Malt Scotch Whisky from Douglas Laing, finished in casks that previously held orange wine, bottled at 53.9%.

Where earlier Winter Editions relied on pure sherry, the 2024 edition breaks the pattern with the wine-like, citrus-tinged character of orange wine casks laid over the classic Speyside sweetness.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Orange peel, honey and malt meet light floral tones and a wine-like freshness from the orange wine.

    Palate

Full-bodied with sweet orange, vanilla, caramel and a hint of ginger and cinnamon.

    Finish

Long, warm and lightly spiced with citrus oil and an elegant dryness from the wine casks.

618 steps lead up to the rock of Skellig Michael, where monks once built their monastery high above the Atlantic. That number has given its name to Ireland's only distillery on the Ring of Kerry.

    Expert Review

Skellig Six18 Step Collection Limited Edition is an Irish Single Pot Still Whiskey matured in three cask types, bottled at 43%.

The whiskey is the first expression from Skellig Six18 Distillery in Cahersiveen, County Kerry, and the first Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey with a peated profile, inspired by the Atlantic peatlands and the maritime history along the Skellig Coast. It is mashed from both malted and unmalted barley and triple distilled in traditional copper pot stills, giving it the silky structure the style is known for. The distillery is housed in a former dry dock, from which locals and visitors once sailed out to Skellig Michael.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh maritime peat meets young grain and a touch of citrus.

Some whiskies try to say everything at once. And then there is Stauning Rye – a whisky that just is what it is. Rye. West Jutland. Floor-malted on their own lofts. Matured until it is ready.

    Expert description

Stauning Rye Floor Malted is a Danish Rye Whisky bottled at 48%. Stauning Whisky was founded in 2005 by nine friends in Skjern, West Jutland. Rye is the distillery's original expression and flagship from the very beginning. Made from locally grown rye and floor-malted barley – all malted on their own lofts. "Floor Malted" in the name is not a marketing gimmick: it is a genuine description of a technique they use every single day. Matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and spiced rye, light honey and a hint of blossom. Bread and soft vanilla. Not heavy, but with substance.

    Palate

Spiced and direct. Rye grain and pepper, followed by sweet maltiness and light caramel. A trace of dried fruit from the sherry casks.

West Jutland does not smell of iodine and hospital. It smells of smoke from the malt lofts, of dune pines and sea air. That is what Stauning set out to capture when they lit the peat and made RØG – a Danish smoked whisky with a voice of its own.

    Expert description

Stauning RØG Smoked Double Malt is a Danish Whisky bottled at 43%, made from a blend of floor-malted, peated barley and unpeated malt. Stauning Whisky was founded in 2005 in Skjern, West Jutland. RØG is the distillery's take on smoked whisky – not an imitation of heavy, medicinal Islay profiles, but a lighter, fruitier smoke style rooted in West Jutland terroir. Matured in a combination of 1st fill bourbon and sherry casks.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Soft, fruity smoke with green apple and vanilla cream. The smoke is present but restrained – it does not impose itself.
