This 17‑year‑old Orange Wine Cask Finish is one of the most distinctive chapters in that story. The whisky begins its life in classic ex‑bourbon casks, where it develops the honeyed depth, waxy texture and rounded natural sweetness Deanston is known for over 15 years. Then the story takes a turn: the whisky is moved to rare Vino de Naranja casks, a Spanish specialty made from sun‑dried orange peel and matured in a traditional solera system.

It is a cask finish rarely seen in the whisky world – and the result is as unique as it sounds.

The aroma opens with an explosion of freshly grated orange peel, marmalade and dried apricots, immediately setting the scene for something different. Beneath the citrus lies honey, toasted almonds and soft malt sweetness, while floral notes and a touch of chamomile add elegance and lightness. It is a nose that is fresh, warm and deeply inviting.

On the palate you are met by citrus oils and blood orange, moving into stone fruit, sultanas and a core of malty biscuit. In other words, this is a whisky never intended for the general market – a bottling that carries both exclusivity and historical significance.

The whisky is a 20‑year‑old Single Speyside Malt, selected to represent the style Douglas Laing has been known for over seven decades: elegance, complexity and an uncompromising focus on natural quality. Bottled at 52%, it preserves the depth, structure and authentic character of the cask.

On the nose, classic Speyside traits appear immediately: ripe orchard fruits, honey, vanilla and a soft floral note that reflects long, patient maturation. Beneath the surface lie subtle hints of malt, citrus and gentle oak, adding freshness and balance.

The palate is rich and layered. It opens with sweet malt, creamy vanilla and fruit notes such as pear and baked apple. Edradour Ballechin 13 Year Old SFTC 2004/2018 is an exclusive single malt whisky from the small but highly respected Edradour Distillery located in the Highland region of Scotland. This whisky is part of the Straight From The Cask (SFTC) series, known for its powerful and unfiltered releases drawn directly from single casks at cask strength.

This edition was distilled on April 15th, 2004, and bottled on January 15th, 2018, giving it a full 13 years of maturation. It was aged for the entire period in a single port cask (cask no. 199), which contributes to its deep color and rich flavor profile. The whisky is bottled at 53.3% ABV, un-chillfiltered and with natural color.

Tasting notes: Nose: An intense and rich aroma of red berries, dark chocolate, pecans, and damp oak. The port cask influence is evident, bringing a sweet and vinous character that melds beautifully with Ballechin’s bold peaty smoke.
