Scotch Whisky

The first thing people think of when they hear the word Scotland is whiskey, including  Scotch as it is also called. Although Scotland is known for many things other than just whiskey, such as golf, haggis and kilts, it is for good reason that it is precisely the whiskey that, over time, has been dubbed 'Scotch'. The Scots have always been the true pioneers of whiskey making, which many others have tried to emulate, including the Irish, the Americans and even the Danes. However, none of these places has given rise to a similarity between their nation and their whiskeys. Even in Ireland, where one is also very proud of their Irish whiskeys, the impact and marketing effect has been as great as in Scotland.

It is especially because of the very varied nature of the Scottish highland and lowland respectively, as well as a fantastic entrepreneurial spirit that has enabled the Scots to produce such a large and varied selection of whiskey over time.

Generally, Scottish whiskey is divided into three main types: Each whiskey type has its own flavor and aroma, but the most prevalent type of Scotch Whiskey is Malt Whiskey. It is also from here that one has the very well known Single Malt Whiskeys, which is what most associate with Scottish whiskeys.

Find the right whiskey for your Scotch and soda

It's not just the whiskeys that 'Scotch' has become synonymous with. The same goes for drinks, specifically the legendary Scotch and soda cocktail. This cocktail originated in the USA in the 19th century as part of the highball trend imported to the United States by Englishmen.

Scotch and soda basically consists of Scotch whiskey and carbonated water - these can be both Blended Whiskeys, Grain Whiskeys and Single Malt Whiskeys. However, most people here agree that Single Malt Whiskeys are the best for this particular drink. Therefore, if you want an exclusive version of "Scotch and Soda", we highly recommend you use a Glenlivet Scotch or a Macallan Scotch.

How to make the drink:

Pour two parts of Scotch Whiskey into a glass and six parts of carbonated water. That is it! Here you can choose to use ordinary carbonated water or carbonated water with citrus as you prefer.

A "Scotch and Soda" can be a great way to start drinking whiskey, as the carbonated water makes the drink even more fresh, which especially young palates prefer.

Glen Scotia is one of the few remaining distilleries in Campbeltown – a region once known as the whisky capital of the world. The distillery is celebrated for its maritime character, with notes of salt, seaweed, and a light oily texture. Lady of the Glen, founded by Gregor Hannah, is an independent bottler that highlights individual casks without compromise: natural color, no chillfiltration, and bottling at full cask strength.

This 2016 distillation was matured for 8 years and finished in an ex-Tawny Port cask (#8924). This Glen Scotia demonstrates how a young Campbeltown spirit can gain extra depth and complexity through a port cask finish. The combination of maritime notes and the fruity sweetness of Tawny Port creates a whisky with both edge and elegance. With only 231 bottles produced, it is an exclusive release that will appeal to both collectors and enthusiasts.

    Item no.: 222556368-77898

Every May, Campbeltown wakes up - the little town by the sea that was once the whisky capital of the world. When the festival rolls in, Glen Scotia opens its annual treasure chest, and this time it's a seven-year-old, medium-peated dram carrying the whole coast in the glass: sea salt, soft peat smoke and a wave of dark, jammy berries.

The expert's take on Glen Scotia Campbeltown Malts Festival Edition 2026

Glen Scotia Campbeltown Malts Festival Edition 2026 is the distillery's official festival bottling for the Campbeltown Malts Festival, and the first under new Master Blender Ashley Smith. Each year Glen Scotia draws on its medium-peated spirit, produced for only a few weeks annually, to build a release that both honours tradition and plays with flavour. The 2026 edition is a single malt matured for seven years in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, letting the distillery's maritime core unfold with a creamy vanilla and fudge sweetness.

After those seven years, the whisky was transferred to first-fill Ruby Port casks for six months. That finish is what lifts it from classic coastal Campbeltown to something more indulgent: layers of ripe cherry, blackcurrant and a warm, jammy berry sweetness playing against the peat smoke. Bottled at cask strength 53.9%, non-chill filtered and at natural colour, so the whole expression stands raw and unadulterated.

The bottle comes in a navy blue box with a QR code that unlocks a digital tour inside the distillery in Campbeltown. A release made for those chasing character and small discoveries rather than polished perfection.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Sweet peat smoke greets you first, then ripe red cherries and a big dollop of creamy vanilla fudge. A trace of sea salt sits underneath, a reminder of where the whisky comes from.

    Palate

Juicy mandarin bursts forward before unfolding into indulgent blackcurrant jam and jammy red fruits - raspberry, strawberry, plum. Behind it lie layers of rich, smoky embers and a soft, peppery spice.

    Finish

Long and warming with cinnamon and clove, the salty coastal edge and a lingering peat smoke that stays like embers after a bonfire.

Medium. Glen Scotia's festival bottlings have built a solid reputation among collectors, and the limited annual editions are typically sought after once the festival is over and they quickly vanish from retailers' shelves. As a young, cask-strength, named release at an attractive price, it has a sensible upside, but without the big value jumps seen with the older festival editions.

    Did you know?

Glen Scotia is one of just three remaining distilleries in Campbeltown - a town that in the 1800s housed more than 30 distilleries and called itself the whisky capital of the world. The peated spirit behind the festival edition is run by the distillery for only a handful of weeks each year.

  • Glen Spey 12 year Flora and Fauna Speyside Single Malt Whisky
    Item no.: 22227865471-301

Not every hero wears a cape — some wear a label with a bird. Glen Spey 12 year is one of the quiet classics from Diageo's Flora & Fauna series: a distillery that rarely performs as a soloist, here caught in a bottle in its purest form. Fruity, light and genuinely accessible.

    Expert's description

Glen Spey 12 year Flora & Fauna is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in oak casks and bottled at 43% as part of Diageo's Flora & Fauna series. Glen Spey distillery sits at the heart of Rothes, Speyside, and is one of the smallest in Diageo's portfolio. Founded in 1878 as Mill of Rothes by James Stuart, acquired by W. & A. Gilbey in 1887 and since 1962 part of IDV, later Diageo. Almost all production goes into the J&B blend, and official single malt bottlings have historically been rare.

The Flora & Fauna series was launched in 1992 by United Distillers (now Diageo) as a tribute to distilleries that don't normally appear as single malt. The 26 original labels depict plants and animals from each distillery's local environment. Twelve years in oak casks at 43% produces a classic, balanced Speyside profile: fresh, floral and gently fruity with a creamy mid-palate.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and floral with light citrus — lemon, grapefruit and clementine — underpinned by green apples, pears and a faint vanilla sweetness. Freshly cut grass and a hint of malted bread.

    Palate

Soft and silky on the palate with orchard fruit — green apples and pears — combined with toffee, vanilla and a discreet spiced oak element. Orange and light almond round off the mid-palate.

    Finish

Medium-length and clean with fresh fruit and a gentle sweetness. Classic, uncomplicated Speyside finish.

    Item no.: 222744-77823

From Rothes to Normandy — that is the journey this Glen Spey cask has taken. Eleven years matured in American oak, followed by a finish in a calvados cask from the apple orchards of Normandy. The result is a Speyside single malt that combines the familiar with the unexpected.

    Expert's description

Glen Spey 2010/2021 Coopers Choice 11 year is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in American oak and finished in a calvados cask, bottled at 55% by The Vintage Malt Whisky Co. The Coopers Choice is the series from The Vintage Malt Whisky Co., founded in 1992 by Brian Crook in Milngavie. The company is named after the cooper — the cask-maker — one of the oldest and most essential crafts in the whisky world. Every release is single cask, natural colour and without chill filtration.

Glen Spey is the Rothes distillery that is rarely seen as a single malt. Distilled on 1 June 2010 in American oak casks, this bottling received a finishing period in a calvados cask (#803006) before being released in January 2021. Calvados — the Norman apple spirit — leaves clear traces: sweet, crisp apple fruitiness and a lightly spiced complexity. Only 354 bottles.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Delicate peaches and sweet vanilla open first, supported by tropical notes — mango and passionfruit — along with apple peel from the calvados cask.

    Palate

Soft spice and walnut whip with sweet poached pears and cooked apples in balance with lightly malty oak. The calvados cask adds a sweet, fruity complexity without dominating.

    Finish

Crisp and dry with fruit and spice cutting through. Clean and well-defined.

    Expert's description

Glen Spey 2010/2021 Signatory Vintage 10 year is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in 1st use hogsheads, bottled at 46% non-chill filtered exclusively for the Danish market. Glen Spey in Rothes is a distillery that rarely steps forward as a soloist. Founded in 1878 by James Stuart and sold to W. & A. Gilbey in 1887. Today owned by Diageo and primarily a supplier to the J&B blend. The distinctive purifiers on the spirit stills produce a light, floral and delicate spirit.

Signatory Vintage from Pitlochry is one of Scotland's most respected independent bottlers. Their Un-Chillfiltered Collection sets the standard: always at least 46% ABV, no chill filtration, no added colouring. This bottling was distilled on 16 September 2010 and matured in two 1st use hogsheads (#804786 and #804792), bottled on 31 May 2021. Exclusively for the Danish market.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh lemon zest and light floral tones combined with creamy vanilla and gently spiced oak. A delicate underlying maltiness.

    Palate

Creamy and lightly oily texture — precisely because chill filtration was omitted. Fresh pears, strawberries and ripe bananas. Liquorice notes emerge. The 46% gives a pleasant bite without overwhelming the fruit.

In Rothes, wedged between churchyard walls and the more famous names next door, stands a distillery few have heard of — yet one that has given the J&B blend its light, floral backbone for decades. Now it steps forward alone, without added colour, without filtration, honestly and directly.

Note: Rust on the cap may occur and signs of wear on the label.

    Expert's description

Signatory Vintage Glen Spey 11 year Un-Chillfiltered Collection is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Speyside matured in 1st use hogsheads, bottled at 46% non-chill filtered. Glen Spey is one of the most retiring distilleries in all of Speyside. Founded in 1878 by grain merchant James Stuart, who initially built the site as a harbour mill before buying Macallan and selling Glen Spey to English wine merchants W. & A. Gilbey in 1887 — the first Scottish distillery to come into English hands. Since then the distillery has primarily been used as a supplier to blends.

This bottle is released by Signatory Vintage as part of their Un-Chillfiltered Collection — always bottled at a minimum of 46% and without chill filtration, preserving all the natural oils and structure. The spirit was distilled on 16 September 2010 and rested in a pair of 1st use hogsheads before being bottled on 7 January 2022. The result is a full, rounded version of a distillery otherwise known for its light and delicate style — thanks to Glen Spey's distinctive purifiers on the spirit stills, which increase reflux and create a cleaner, more perfumed spirit.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Floral tones meet ripe pears and apples, spiced with a trace of vanilla from the casks. Beneath it all lies a light malty sweetness reminiscent of freshly baked cake.

    Palate

Soft and rounded with a grainy sweetness, fresh fruit and a hint of honey. The unfiltered style delivers a slightly fuller body than one usually associates with this distillery's light character.

    Finish

Medium-length with notes of malt, soft oak and a gentle spice that slowly fades.

    Item no.: 059763-615-1078

Deep in Speyside, at a distillery most people only know as a contributor to J&B, a single cask quietly aged for over a decade. Distilled in December 2012, finished in an ex-Banyuls cask — a rare fortified wine from the southern French borderlands — and bottled at full cask strength for Lady of the Glen. 295 bottles. That is all there is.

    Expert's description

Glen Spey 2012/2023 Lady of the Glen 10 year is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a hogshead and finished in an ex-Banyuls cask, bottled at cask strength 58.4% by Lady of the Glen. Glen Spey distillery in Rothes is one of Diageo's most understated gems. Founded in 1878 by grain merchant James Stuart, sold to W. & A. Gilbey in 1887 as the first Scottish distillery to come into English ownership, and since then primarily used for blending — J&B is its principal customer. The characteristic purifiers on the spirit stills create a light, floral and delicate spirit. Lady of the Glen (Hannah Whisky Merchants) is an independent bottler founded by Gregor Hannah, specialising in single cask bottlings at natural strength, without colouring or chill filtration.

This bottling rested in a hogshead with a finishing period in an ex-Banyuls cask — Banyuls is a sweet, oxidative dessert wine from Roussillon in southern France, related to tawny port. It lends the light Glen Spey character a layer of dried fruit, spice and a gentle vinous depth rarely seen from this distillery. Bottled on 5 April 2023 after precisely 10 years and 4 months — 295 hand-numbered bottles.

Spiced apple and dried flowers open first, followed by flaked almonds, orange peel and red grapes from the Banyuls cask. Beneath it all, a light malty sweetness and a trace of vanilla.

    Palate

Vanilla and freshly baked strudel with gingerbread and cooked berries. The high cask strength of 58.4% delivers a powerful punch that opens beautifully with a single drop of water.

    Finish

Long and spicy with candied orange and white chocolate. The Banyuls cask leaves a gentle, vinous roundness deep into the finish.

Low — priced sensibly for everyday enjoyment from a rare cask type. Single cask with only 295 bottles, but Banyuls finish is niche.

    Did you know?

Banyuls wines are made from Grenache grapes and deliberately oxidised during ageing — much like tawny port. This Roussillon process gave this Glen Spey cask its distinctive depth of dried fruit and spice.

  • Cask strength power with sherry sweetness and spiced depth
    Item no.: 059763-615-188

Forest berries and sweet spices open the door, then cocoa powder and gingerbread take over. This is GlenAllachie at full strength — Batch 11 poured straight from the cask, no water added.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 10 Year Old Cask Strength Batch 11 is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky, matured in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, red wine barriques and virgin oak casks, bottled at cask strength of 59.4%.

The Cask Strength series has become something of a signature since Billy Walker took over the distillery in 2017. Where the core range tells the story at a gentler strength, here you get the whisky exactly as it left the cask — no water added to tame the intensity.

Batch 11 builds on the sherry and virgin oak combination that has become GlenAllachie's trademark: Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks bring depth and sweetness, while red wine barriques and virgin oak casks add spice and structure. The result is a 10 year old malt that tastes well beyond its years.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Forest berries and sweet spices greet you first, quickly followed by cocoa powder and a hint of gingerbread. Orange peel adds a fresh edge, while heather honey ties it all together with floral sweetness.

    Palate

The sherry unfolds on the palate with the same forest-berry sweetness from the nose, this time closer to dark chocolate. Spices take over midway, and heather honey returns alongside a touch of orange peel.

    Finish

Long and spiced, with cocoa powder and a lingering sweetness from the gingerbread that stays with you well after the last sip.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280119

Picture an afternoon where the light slants low through a window, carrying the scent of orange peel and heather honey. That is how GlenAllachie 10 Year French Oak Finish greets you — a whisky given extra time on a cask it rarely visits.

    Expert's Description

GlenAllachie 10 Year French Oak Finish is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky at 48%, matured in American oak casks and finished in French Virgin Oak casks — virgin French oak that has never previously held spirit. It belongs to the distillery's Virgin Oak series, where experimentation with different oak origins takes centre stage.

French oak lends the whisky a different spice character than American or European sherry oak — more restrained, yet carrying a clear sweetness that plays against the spirit's natural fruitiness. The colour is golden bronze, a sign the cask has released some of its colour without any help from caramel.

Behind the bottle stand Billy Walker and the GlenAllachie team, known for an almost stubborn insistence on letting the casks speak. This 10 year old is a limited edition, and as such a snapshot of what a single cask choice can do to an already characterful spirit.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Orange peel and heather honey meet a mild spiced aroma, while caramel and mocha settle underneath as a deeper base.

    Palate

Heather honey and mocha continue from the nose, joined by brittle toffee and a touch of grapefruit. Cinnamon and earthy tannins give the whisky structure.

    Finish

The finish is warm and lightly spiced, with ginger lingering long after.

    Did You Know?

French Virgin Oak casks are used far less often in Scotch whisky production than American or European casks, partly because the dense French oak requires a different toasting process to unlock its aromatic compounds.

A journey to Bolgheri hides inside this 10 year old GlenAllachie. After its time in American oak, the spirit was allowed to rest in wine casks from Grattamacco, one of Tuscany's oldest and most respected wine producers, and the result is a honeyed elegance with a well-rounded finish.

    Expert's description

Glenallachie 10 Year Old Grattamacco Wine Cask Finish is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky bottled at 48% ABV, matured in American oak casks and finished in wine casks from Grattamacco in the Bolgheri area of Tuscany, Italy. Grattamacco is considered the second-oldest wine estate in the area and is known for its powerful, earthy red wines, whose character now carries through into the whisky's casks.

Only 15,600 bottles of this release exist globally, without individual bottle numbering, making it one of the more limited expressions in the Wine Cask Finish series.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

A honeyed sweetness settles first, supported by a light earthy depth from the Italian wine casks.

    Palate

The elegance from the nose carries through to the palate, where honey and a warm cask spice balance one another neatly.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-1972783196

The bourbon cask sets the tone here: vanilla, sweet oak and a clean, bright fruitiness layered straight onto the distillate's own complexity. Drawn from a single cask at 57.9%, this 11 year old offers both depth and drive — a few drops of water will open it up further if you like.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 11 Year Old is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky matured in a bourbon barrel and bottled at cask strength, 57.9% ABV.

Because the entire contents come from a single cask, there is no other distillate to balance against — this is the distillery's raw character, filtered through American oak. Bourbon barrels are smaller than the sherry casks GlenAllachie is otherwise known for, giving the whisky more direct wood contact in less time and a distinct, sweet vanilla profile.

This series has been bottled exclusively for Denmark, and as with any single cask release, the complexity in the glass is unique to this one cask alone.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Vanilla and sweet oak up front, with a fresh fruitiness hinting at pear and green apple.

    Palate

Full-bodied and oily, with vanilla caramel and a warm spice note that builds towards the finish.

    Finish

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 12 Year Old New Edition is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky matured predominantly in sherry casks, bottled at 46% ABV. The New Edition expression builds on the distillery's core profile, where PX and Oloroso sherry casks are complemented by Virgin Oak casks that add extra vanilla and spice beneath the sherry sweetness.

The result is a dram that leans into classic sherried Speysiders, while carrying a clear GlenAllachie signature of nutty and banana-like tones that tie the whole thing together.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

    Item no.: 22227865479-110778

Some casks never get diluted by others – they are left alone to develop a strength and depth that only time and cask power can give. GlenAllachie 12 Year 2013 Single Cask is one such cask, bottled straight without blending.

    Expert's Description

GlenAllachie 12 Year 2013 Single Cask is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky at cask strength 61.7%, distilled in 2013 and bottled from a single cask, Cask No. 4385, after 12 years of maturation.

Because the whisky comes from one cask alone, it carries the imprint of that cask's history — no smoothing from other casks, no compromises. The high strength means every drop concentrates the aromas markedly, and a few drops of water can open up even more layers.

GlenAllachie has made single cask bottlings something of a signature activity under Billy Walker's leadership, where each cask is assessed individually before being released on its own rather than folded into a larger batch.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe fruits and honey meet spices and a distinct oak note.

    Palate

Dried fruit and vanilla dance with dark caramel, while the high cask strength delivers a spicy warmth that spreads across the palate.

    Finish

Long and warm, with a trailing note of oak spice and caramel.

  • GlenAllachie 12 Year Old Single Cask PX Puncheon 59.2%
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197

One cask, one story. This GlenAllachie 12 Year Old comes from a single PX puncheon, poured at cask strength, and it shows: rich Christmas cake, gingerbread and a good pour of caramel sauce. Nothing here has been blended away — what you taste is exactly what that one cask gave up over twelve years.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 12 Year Old is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky matured in a PX Puncheon and bottled at cask strength, 59.2% ABV.

Letting a distillate mature alone in a single PX-seasoned puncheon, rather than blending it with sibling casks, lets the sherry's dense sweetness work its way fully into the malt. A puncheon is larger than a standard sherry butt, giving the spirit a slower, more even contact with the wood — often producing a deeper, rounder sweetness than smaller casks allow.

The result is a whisky where spiced baking notes and dark fruit stand out clearly, without being drowned by tannin. It is non-chill filtered and has kept its natural colour, so what reaches the glass sits as close to the cask as possible.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Christmas cake and gingerbread meet spiced orange peel, with a hint of baking spice suggesting cinnamon and clove.

    Palate

Caramel sauce and crème brûlée arrive first, followed by the same warm spice profile from the nose — now leaning towards dark chocolate.

    Finish

There is a reason 15 year old GlenAllachie keeps coming up when collectors talk about sherry-matured Speyside whisky done right. The deep reddish-brown colour hints at what is coming: a whisky shaped by PX and Oloroso Sherry casks, where sweetness and spice settle into an unhurried, well-balanced whole.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 15 Year Old Single Speyside Malt Whisky is matured in a combination of PX and Oloroso Sherry casks and bottled at 46% ABV.

Fifteen years on sherry gives the whisky its deep reddish-brown colour and a character with clear roots in traditional Spanish-influenced maturation. Under Billy Walker's stewardship, GlenAllachie's cask programme has become one of the most talked-about in Speyside, and this 15 year old is one of the clearest examples of what carefully selected sherry casks can bring to a distillate over time.

The whisky is both non-chill filtered and free of added colour, allowing the full influence of the sherry casks to come through.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fudge and Christmas spice wrap around a sweetness of raisin, giving the aroma a warm, homely character.

    Palate

Sherry sweetness weaves together with Christmas spice, ripe banana and orange peel, before a dark, slightly bitter chocolate emerges.

  • GlenAllachie 16 Year Old Present Edition – Mizunara Finish by Billy Walker
    Item no.: 22221111115-855896

Some bottles mark an anniversary. This one marks a person. GlenAllachie 16 Year Old Present Edition honours Billy Walker's fifty years in the whisky industry, finished in a cask you rarely encounter in Scotch whisky: Japanese Mizunara oak, cut from trees that can stand for two centuries before they are ready to use.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 16 Year Old Present Edition is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky, finished in Mizunara Virgin Oak casks after 1st fill PX and Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 48% ABV.

Present Edition is the second release in a three-part series GlenAllachie created to mark Billy Walker's half-century behind the stills. The series is built around three chapters of his career — past, present and a gift toward the future — and this expression represents the present: a spirit given extra time to mature on a cask that is as rare as it is sought after.

Mizunara oak grows slowly and unevenly, which makes the wood porous and notoriously difficult to coop. Only a handful of cooperages worldwide have mastered the craft, and the result is a cask that lends notes of sandalwood, coconut and oriental spice — a character quite distinct from American or European oak.

The whisky matured first in PX and Oloroso sherry casks before moving into Mizunara virgin oak, where it picked up its final layers of character. It was bottled in June 2022 in a run of 2,900 bottles worldwide, placing it among the rarer releases in GlenAllachie's anniversary programme.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dark chocolate and heather honey meet toasted almonds and sandalwood, while ginger, orange peel and a touch of coconut add an exotic edge.

    Palate

Heather honey and cinnamon unfold alongside candied ginger and demerara sugar, carried by dark berries, hazelnuts and a syrupy note of fig.

    Finish

Long and spiced, with a gentle echo of sandalwood and honey trailing quietly away.

    Item no.: 222345-463

Eighteen is the age at which a whisky either finds its shape or loses itself in too much wood. GlenAllachie 18 Year Old New Edition belongs firmly in the first camp: a whisky in which bourbon and sherry casks have been allowed to work together for close to two decades, without either ever drowning out the other.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 18 Year Old New Edition Single Speyside Malt Whisky is matured in a combination of Bourbon, PX and Oloroso Sherry casks and bottled at 46% ABV.

The blend of cask types is Billy Walker's signature: the bourbon casks contribute lightness and sweetness, while the PX and Oloroso Sherry casks add depth and spiced complexity. The result is an 18 year old that shows just how much balance can be achieved when cask selection is treated as a craft rather than a formula.

The whisky is both non-chill filtered and free of added colour, and the eighteen years in wood are clearly felt in both aroma and finish.

    Tasting notes

Distilled on 7 June 1989 and left to rest in a sherry butt for nearly three decades before being bottled in October 2018. Only 485 bottles of this 29 year old GlenAllachie exist, and each one carries an entire distillery lifetime within it.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 1989 Cask 100049 Batch 1 is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky distilled on 7 June 1989 and bottled in October 2018 from a single sherry butt, cask #100049, at 29 years of age and 58.1% ABV.

The cask has been allowed to work undisturbed through almost three generations of whisky drinkers, and the result is a dram with the depth and complexity that only comes with time. The 1989 vintage predates most of GlenAllachie's better-known modern releases, making this bottling a rare glimpse into the distillery's older stock.

With only 485 bottles from a single cask, there is no going back once the bottles are gone – this is spirit that cannot be recreated.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Deep and complex, with mature sherry notes, dried fruit and a hint of old oak that speaks to decades of cask rest.

    Palate

Rich and full-bodied, with layers of dark chocolate, walnuts and a warm spiciness that unfolds slowly.

    Finish

Long and dry, with a lingering aftertaste of oak and spice that stays with you.

    Investment Potential

High. A 29 year old single cask from a 1989 vintage with only 485 bottles ranks among the distillery's rarest releases, and that combination of age and low bottle count is exactly what serious collectors chase.

    Did You Know?

When this whisky was laid down in 1989, the GlenAllachie distillery had not yet experienced the change of ownership that later led to Billy Walker's takeover and revival of the site – meaning the cask sat waiting through the entire modern era of GlenAllachie's history.

  • GlenAllachie 2008 Ruby Port Hogshead 13 Year Old 55.2%
    Item no.: 505956-498796-465-4

Port wine has left its clear mark on this 2008 GlenAllachie. A Ruby Port hogshead has given the whisky a deep, berry-laden character, and 13 years of maturation have given the cask plenty of time to work. With a cask strength of 55.2% and just 313 bottles from cask 2583, this is a rare release exclusive to the Danish market.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 2008 Ruby Port Hogshead 13 Year Old is a single cask Speyside malt whisky, matured in a Ruby Port hogshead and bottled at 55.2% cask strength.

The bottling forms part of Batch 4 in GlenAllachie's ongoing series of single cask releases, where whisky maker Billy Walker lets each cask show its own personality. Cask 2583 was filled on 20 November 2008 and left to mature for nearly 13 years before being bottled in July 2022. Over the years, the Ruby Port cask has given the whisky a deep reddish hue and a character of dark berries that stands clearly apart from the distillery's cask strength releases matured in bourbon or sherry wood.

Only 313 bottles have been drawn from this single cask, and they are reserved for the Danish market. That makes this release an ideal chance to experience how a port wine cask can shape a Speyside malt whisky from the ground up.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Ripe raspberries and blackberries meet a sweetness of cane sugar and a hint of clove. Underneath lies a light earthy tone and a touch of dark chocolate that ties the berry-driven aromas together.

    Palate

The palate offers juicy red berries, a whisper of liquorice and a warm spiciness that builds alongside the cask strength. Towards the middle comes a creamy sweetness reminiscent of dark cherry jam, backed by a light tannin from the cask.

    Finish

Long and full-bodied, with a persistent tone of dark berries and herbal spice that slowly turns drier, leaving a light peppery warmth.

    Did you know?

A hogshead is larger than a standard cask, typically holding around 190-200 litres, and is often built by reassembling used bourbon barrels into a new, larger construction. Once such a cask has held Ruby Port, it gains an extra dimension, giving the whisky more colour and fruit than a standard bourbon cask ever could.

  • GlenAllachie 2008/2019 Blackadder Raw Cask – cask strength single sherry cask
    Item no.: 22227865363-18749

Some bottles come straight from the cask, without filtration and without dilution, and this 2008/2019 release from Blackadder is exactly that. A single refill sherry cask, bottled at full strength, delivers a whisky with edge, depth and an intensity that is hard to mistake for anything else.

    Expert's description

Glenallachie 2008/2019 Blackadder Raw Cask 11 Year Old is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at 63% cask strength by the independent bottler Blackadder. The spirit was distilled on 23 September 2008 and bottled in October 2019 after 11 years of maturation in a single refill sherry butt, cask no. #846.

Blackadder is known for its Raw Cask series, where the whisky is bottled straight from the cask without chill filtration or colouring – and without removing the sediment that naturally settles during maturation. The result is a whisky that stands as close to the distiller's original work as it is possible to get.

Only 589 bottles of this specific release exist, making it a genuine single cask experience from one of Speyside's most talked-about distilleries.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Powerful sherry character with dried fruit and a hint of the cask's raw, unrefined edge.

    Palate

The high cask strength gives an intense, concentrated expression where sherry sweetness and spiced oak walk hand in hand.

    Finish

Long, warm and lingering, with a strength that reminds you this is whisky without compromise.

  • GlenAllachie 2008/2020 Murray McDavid 12 Year Old Cognac Casks
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197278443

Murray McDavid has built its name on giving whisky one last, distinctive turn on unusual cask types — and here that turn is cognac. This GlenAllachie, distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2020 after 12 years, spent its final year in ex-cognac casks following maturation in a sherry butt. The result is creamy malt, fruity toffee and a touch of vanilla.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 2008/2020 Murray McDavid 12 Year Old is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky, matured in a sherry butt and finished in 1st fill cognac casks, bottled at 50% ABV.

Murray McDavid calls itself the "pioneers of whisky maturation" and has built its reputation on exactly this kind of cask experimentation, where an already mature distillate is given one final finish that pulls it in a new direction. Here, the last 12 months of maturation took place in two specific 1st fill cognac casks (#1910865 and #1920865), after the whisky had already drawn its base character from a sherry butt.

The result is a whisky where GlenAllachie's creamy, fruity sherry character meets the softer, more perfumed wood notes of cognac casks — a combination rarely seen outside the kind of independent bottlings Murray McDavid is known for.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Creamy malt and fruity toffee, with an underlying note of soft oak and a touch of vanilla from the cognac casks.

    Palate

Soft fruit and vanilla sit up front, supported by a round, creamy sweetness from the original sherry maturation.

    Finish

Medium length, with a gentle oak note and a lingering hint of cognac's perfumed sweetness.

  • GlenAllachie Virgin Oak 14 Year Old Batch 5
    Item no.: 22227865555-77

Picture a cask that has never held anything but this one whisky - no prior life with bourbon or sherry, just virgin oak and fourteen quiet years of maturation. That is the essence of Batch 5, a distillate personally selected by Billy Walker and bottled in a strictly limited release for the Danish market.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 2008/2023 Virgin Oak 14 Year Old Batch 5 is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured entirely in a virgin oak cask (Cask No. #473) and bottled at cask strength of 55.5%.

The whisky was distilled in 2008 and left to rest until 2023, when Billy Walker - the distillery's owner and one of Speyside's most respected noses - selected this exact cask for the Batch 5 series. The series is known for pushing the boundaries of GlenAllachie's cask philosophy, and a virgin oak cask marks a deliberate departure from the bourbon and sherry casks the distillery is otherwise celebrated for.

With only 263 bottles in total, released exclusively for the Danish market, this is a single cask experience unlikely to be repeated. Non-chill filtered and free of added colour, the whisky stands with its full, unadulterated character intact.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Vanilla and toasted coconut meet sweet caramel, a touch of clove and a fresh scent of freshly cut oak.

    Palate

Creamy vanilla and brown sugar unfold alongside a gentle spiced edge of nutmeg, ripe apples and an underlying honeyed sweetness.

    Finish

Long and dry-spiced, with notes of cedar, cinnamon and a lingering sweetness that speaks to how much character a single virgin cask can impart.

High. A single cask with only 263 bottles, released exclusively for Denmark, guarantees a rarity that rarely returns to shelves. The combination of Billy Walker's personal cask selection and an unusual virgin oak maturation makes this release a natural collector's item for enthusiasts chasing the unconventional.

    Did you know?

Virgin oak casks are traditionally used for bourbon and rarely seen in Scotch whisky production. Billy Walker's decision to mature this whisky entirely in a virgin cask is a deliberate experiment within his renowned approach to cask management - and one of the clearest examples of how much character a single, unused oak cask can lend a distillate.

A French red wine cask from a Premier Cru Classé vineyard has left its mark on this 2009 GlenAllachie. The result is a 12 year old single cask with enough backbone to carry the wine's character through, bottled at a cask strength of 59.1%. Just 323 bottles have been drawn from cask 1040, exclusively for the Danish market.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 2009 Premier Cru Classé 12 Year Old is a single cask Speyside malt whisky, finished in a French red wine cask from a Premier Cru Classé vineyard and bottled at 59.1% cask strength.

This release belongs to Batch 4 in GlenAllachie's series of single cask bottlings, where the distillery's whisky maker Billy Walker lets each individual cask speak for itself. Cask 1040 was filled on 5 November 2009 and left to rest for nearly 13 years before being bottled in July 2022. Along the way, the red wine cask from a renowned French vineyard has layered the whisky with dark fruit and tannin not found in the distillery's standard releases.

Only 323 bottles have come from this single cask, and they have been bottled exclusively for the Danish market. That makes this bottling a rare chance to taste what happens when GlenAllachie's clean spirit meets the legacy of a French wine cellar.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dark forest berries, redcurrant jelly and a hint of tobacco meet sweet vanilla and a gentle spiced warmth from the oak. Underneath sits a touch of fresh brioche and a tangy note reminiscent of red wine left to breathe.

    Palate

Full-bodied and powerful, with flavours of dark chocolate, blackcurrant and a whisper of clove. The cask strength brings noticeable warmth, but the dark fruit and soft tannins keep it balanced, while caramelised sugar and toasted almonds emerge along the way.

    Finish

Long and dry, with lingering notes of dark fruit, cedar wood and a light bitterness from the wine cask, slowly giving way to a sweetness reminiscent of dark marmalade.

The combination of single cask, cask strength and an unusual French wine cask finish makes it relevant for collectors seeking GlenAllachie releases with a story beyond the ordinary.

    Did you know?

Premier Cru Classé comes from Bordeaux's famous 1855 classification of vineyards, where only a small number of the finest chateaux carry the title. Having a whisky cask rest in a cask from precisely such a vineyard makes this finish something of a rarity in the whisky world.

  • Port pipe-matured single cask with deep fruit sweetness
    Item no.: 059763-615-38

A single cask, a ruby port pipe, left to shape the entire character on its own. Batch 6 is one of the rarer chapters in GlenAllachie's single cask series — only 797 bottles exist of this exact combination.

    Expert's description

GlenAllachie 2011/2023 Ruby Port Pipe 11 Year Old Batch 6 is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, fully matured in a single ruby port pipe, bottled at cask strength of 58.2%.

The whisky was distilled on 25 October 2011 and left to rest in Cask No. 7445 until July 2023, when it was bottled. More than 11 years of maturation in a single port pipe has given the whisky a deep, fruit-driven character not found in the more blended batches.

The cask forms part of Batch 6 in the single cask series, and with only 797 bottles drawn from this exact cask, it counts among the distillery's more limited releases.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Ripe red berries and a light wine-like sweetness from the port meet spiced oak. There's depth on the nose, almost like dark fruit cake, with a hint of spice in the background.

    Palate

The palate offers the same red-berry sweetness, now with more weight and a touch of dried fruit. The port cask shines through with a tart-sweet balance, while the spices push back.

    Finish

Long and fruit-driven, with a lingering sweetness from the port that slowly gives way to dry oak.

A single cask with only 797 bottles gives this release a natural rarity. Port pipes are used sparingly in GlenAllachie's world, which makes this exact cask profile less common than the classic sherry bottlings.

    Did you know?

A "pipe" is a traditional port cask size, originally used to transport port from Portugal — considerably larger than a standard sherry cask, giving the whisky a different wood contact ratio.
