This single malt was distilled in 1996 and first matured in American white oak casks before receiving a final maturation in Oloroso sherry casks. Dalmore King Alexander III is a complex and luxurious Highland single malt, created as a tribute to Clan Mackenzie and a legendary royal rescue in 1263. This whisky is unique in its maturation – aged in no fewer than six different types of casks, resulting in a deep and nuanced flavour profile.

The whisky is named after King Alexander III, who, according to legend, was saved by an ancestor of the Mackenzie clan when a mighty stag threatened his life. In gratitude, the king granted the clan the right to bear the stag as their crest – an emblem that still adorns every Dalmore bottle today.

Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition 15 Year Old is a Highland whisky where Dalwhinnie’s natural heather‑honey style gains an extra layer of depth through a final maturation in Oloroso casks – here in an older 1980 vintage version. This is the essence of the series: a double maturation that adds complexity without overpowering the distillery’s own character. As the material states, the Oloroso sherry “overlays, but does not mask, the heather honey distillery notes.”

The aroma is fresh and elegant with clear sherry notes that wrap around the malt sweetness. The document highlights: “Fresh sherry embraces the maltier, more honeyed aspects of Dalwhinnie. Peaty and surprisingly, still heathery. Spicy yet grapy.” This creates a nose where grape, spice, honey and a touch of peat come together.

The flavour begins with a pronounced spicy lift, followed by a clear and well‑defined malt profile. In the mid‑palate a rich, grape‑driven sweetness appears, typical of the Oloroso finish. The text describes it as “a big, spicy buzz… a rich, grape effect moves in towards the middle.” The body is light to medium, making the whisky both accessible and nuanced.

The finish is very dry with plenty of oak and a dominant vanilla note: “Lots of oak. Very, very dry with vanilla dominating.” It results in a long, clean and classic Highland conclusion.

Dalwhinnie is one of Scotland’s highest distilleries, and the whisky clearly reflects its mountain environment with clean, honeyed and lightly smoky tones. The name means “meeting place,” and the location is so remote that in 1994 it was officially recorded as the coldest inhabited place in Scotland.

Danish Whisky MegaBlend First Edition 2026 Danish Blended Malt Whisky 50%

The first edition of MegaBlend has been created to celebrate the signing of Det Danske Whiskymanifest (The Danish Whisky Manifesto). Nine of the ten signatories have contributed non‑peated single malt whisky to the blend – primarily from ex‑bourbon casks. Everything was then married in ex‑bourbon casks from Knaplund, who was the tenth signatory. A total of 765 bottles will be released at 50% ABV, with a prerelease at Whiskymessen 2026. All profits from the sale of MegaBlend will support the shared project Det Danske Whiskymanifest – promoting awareness of Danish whisky.

Deanston 17 Years Orange Wine Cask Finish – a Highland whisky with sun, citrus and character

Deanston has never been a distillery that followed the crowd. Since 1966, when Brodie Hepburn transformed an abandoned cotton mill into a modern Highland distillery, Deanston has insisted on going its own way. It is about craftsmanship, courage, and letting flavour be the compass rather than convention.

This 17‑year‑old Orange Wine Cask Finish is one of the most distinctive chapters in that story. The whisky begins its life in classic ex‑bourbon casks, where it develops the honeyed depth, waxy texture and rounded natural sweetness Deanston is known for over 15 years. Then the story takes a turn: the whisky is moved to rare Vino de Naranja casks, a Spanish specialty made from sun‑dried orange peel and matured in a traditional solera system.

It is a cask finish rarely seen in the whisky world – and the result is as unique as it sounds.

The aroma opens with an explosion of freshly grated orange peel, marmalade and dried apricots, immediately setting the scene for something different. Beneath the citrus lies honey, toasted almonds and soft malt sweetness, while floral notes and a touch of chamomile add elegance and lightness. It is a nose that is fresh, warm and deeply inviting.

On the palate you are met by citrus oils and blood orange, moving into stone fruit, sultanas and a core of malty biscuit. The influence of the orange wine is clear but never dominant – it adds a vinous depth that ties the flavours together with notes of orange blossom honey, ginger, mild nutmeg and gentle wood spice.

It is a whisky that is both fresh and full‑bodied, both classic and experimental – and one that shows how far Deanston can go without losing its identity.

The finish is zesty, clean and persistent, with plenty of orange peel and a discreet touch of oak. A finish that lingers and invites another sip.
