Gin & Tonic

Here at Whisky.dk we absolutely love gin and tonic. We have therefore put together a large selection of the best gin brands and tonic water as well as an exclusive selection of Danish gin. We want to share our great passion and love for gin and tonic, so sit back and enjoy our gin and tonic universe.

Gin is originally from the Netherlands and is a contraction of the French word for juniper. They started mixing alcohol with juniper in the 17th century for kidney pain. This spread to England, and the English soldiers got a taste for it. The gin was later sold at the pharmacy and used against ailments. Today, gin is known for use in drinks such as gin and tonic, dry Martini and Tom Collins.

    Expert's description

Sipsmith VJOP Gin is an English Navy Strength Gin, bottled at 57.7%.

  • Bottle of Sipsmith London Dry Gin from England
    Item no.: 2222786539-6146

In 2009, Sipsmith's founders challenged an old British tax law that prohibited distilling in a still of less than 1800 litres, opening London's first traditional copper distillery since 1820.

    Expert's description

Sipsmith London Dry Gin is an English London Dry Gin, bottled at 41.6%.

The gin is built on ten carefully selected botanicals: Macedonian juniper berries, Bulgarian coriander seed, French angelica root, Spanish liquorice root, Italian orris root, Spanish ground almond, Chinese cassia bark, Madagascan cinnamon, Sevillian orange peel and Spanish lemon peel.

The fight to open the distillery had significance far beyond Sipsmith itself, paving the way for the entire modern British craft gin movement.

The recipe combines traditional copper pot distillation with a composition that wouldn't look unfamiliar to an 18th-century master distiller.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose has floral, summer meadow notes, followed by mellow rounded juniper and zesty, citrus freshness.

  • Malfy gin with lime
    Item no.: 2222786539-6118

Summer on the Amalfi Coast: terraces of lemon trees stepping down towards the sea, and a scent that hangs in the air long after you have walked past. That is where Malfy took its name and its character from. The bottle itself is filled a good way further north, in Piedmont, behind frosted yellow glass the colour of a sun-bleached wall.

    The Expert's Description

Malfy Gin Con Limone is an Italian Gin distilled at Torino Distillati in Moncalieri, flavoured with lemon peel from the Amalfi Coast and Sicily and bottled at 41%.

Behind the citrus sits a classic gin structure: Italian juniper, coriander, cassia, liquorice, grapefruit peel and orange peel. Distillation happens under vacuum at low temperature, and that is the whole point of this gin. Lemon peel is fragile, and boiling it drives off the volatile oils and leaves behind something closer to lemon candy than to fruit. At low pressure the alcohol evaporates far cooler, and the freshness of the peel makes it into the distillate intact.

Malfy launched in 2016, created by Biggar & Leith together with the Vergnano family at Torino Distillati, who had been distilling gin since the 1970s. Con Limone was one of the first two expressions and is still the one most people know the brand by. Pernod Ricard bought Malfy in 2019.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Grated lemon peel arrives first, crisp and almost ethereal, with juniper and a touch of orange sitting behind it.

    Palate

Juicy lemon without sweetness, followed by juniper, a dry peppery cassia and a little bitterness from the grapefruit peel.

    Finish

Clean and short, with a lightly dry citrus bitterness and a hint of liquorice that lingers.

    Expert's description

Hayman's Royal Dock Navy Strength Gin is an English Navy Strength Gin, bottled at 57%.

The gin is built on the house's classic botanicals with emphasis on angelica and coriander for pepperiness and licorice root for a creamy texture.

The high strength markedly intensifies all the botanicals, giving a fullness that sets it apart from the house's standard London Dry Gin.

The nose is aromatic with citrus and floral notes, namely orange blossom, alongside crisp pine-accented juniper and hints of angelica, coriander and citrus zest.

    Palate

In 18th-century England, distillation techniques were less refined, and gin makers added intensely flavoured botanicals such as liquorice to mask the rough base spirit, a style that was almost lost until Hayman's brought it back.

    Expert's description

Hayman's Old Tom Gin is an English Old Tom Gin, bottled at 41.4%.

The gin is a modern-day recreation of an original family recipe dating from the 1870s, launched in 2007 to meet demand during the cocktail renaissance.

The 10 botanicals emphasise juniper and two types of cinnamon, including coriander seed, lemon peel, orange peel, angelica root, cassia bark, orris root, licorice and nutmeg.

The style's characteristic sweetness, added during distillation, rounds out the sharpness of the juniper and recreates how gin was once enjoyed on the streets of Victorian England.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is lightly piney with sweet spices and floral aromas.

    Palate

    Item no.: 2222786539-6085

Four professionals from vastly different worlds, a chef, a sommelier, a mixologist and a master perfumer, came together to create this gin in Barcelona, where Mediterranean and exotic botanicals meet through two separate distillation methods.

    Expert's description

GinRaw Gastronomic Gin is a Spanish super-premium gin, bottled at 42.3%.

The gin uses two sets of botanicals: Mediterranean ingredients such as lemon peel, citron peel and laurel leaves, and exotic botanicals such as kaffir lime leaves, black cardamom and coriander seeds.

Production combines two distillation methods: a wheat-based distillation with juniper in a traditional copper pot still, and a low-temperature distillation in a Rotaval, after which the two distillates are blended.

The combination of the two techniques gives the gin an unusual aromatic intensity and complexity.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers excellent aromatic intensity, with fresh, crispy citrus notes of lemon, citron and kaffir lime leaf, floral hints and green top notes.

    Expert's description

Copperhead Black Batch London Dry Gin is a Belgian London Dry Gin, bottled at 42%.

The gin is built on seven botanicals: juniper, orange zest, coriander seeds, angelica and cardamom, joined by the more unconventional elderberry and black Ceylon tea.

The combination of classic gin botanicals with black tea gives Black Batch a depth and complexity that sets it apart from the house's other editions.

The result is an intensely flavoured, classically styled London Dry Gin with cardamom spice and Ceylon tea as a running theme.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is classic pine with lavender, camphor and overripe banana from the juniper, joined by black Ceylon tea leaves, cardamom, coriander, zesty orange and a faint hint of sage.

    Palate

The palate is dry, piney juniper, enlivened by black pepper and cardamom spice and Ceylon tea with overripe banana and a faint hint of orange.

    Finish

The finish is piney juniper and cardamom spice.
