The original Bombay, where the spirit's vapours rise through a basket of dried botanicals and collect their aroma along the way, rather than the botanicals being macerated directly in the spirit.
Expert's description
Bombay Original London Dry Gin is an English London Dry Gin, unaged and bottled at 37.5%.
The gin is built on 8 botanicals: licorice, cassia bark, coriander seeds, angelica root, lemon peel, juniper berries, orris root and almonds.
During distillation, the spirit vapour passes through the botanicals, suspended at the top of the column, resulting in the delicate aromas and flavours the gin is known for.
The method differs from maceration techniques and results in a cleaner, more refined gin, where no single botanical dominates too heavily.
Tasting notes
Nose
The nose is smooth juniper with plenty of floral notes, where the freshness of lemon peel and the floral character of angelica and orris root also come through clearly.
Palate
The palate offers a mix of juniper and botanicals, where coriander and licorice root take the lead, while the licorice gives a gentle roundness.
Finish
The finish is dry, and towards the end the juniper melds into soft baking spice notes.
