Gin is originally from the Netherlands and is a contraction of the French word for juniper. They started mixing alcohol with juniper in the 17th century for kidney pain. This spread to England, and the English soldiers got a taste for it. The gin was later sold at the pharmacy and used against ailments. Today, gin is known for use in drinks such as gin and tonic, dry Martini and Tom Collins.

Expert description
Xin Gin is an Irish gin, bottled at 40%, distilled at Ahascragh Distillery. The distillery was founded by husband-and-wife team Gareth and Michelle McAllister, who returned to Ireland after many years abroad, including in Asia, to turn their passion for craft spirits into a family business. They rebuilt the historic Ahascragh mill from the early 1800s, which had stood derelict for around 70 years, and the distillery opened in July 2023 as one of Ireland's first zero-emissions distilleries, powered by renewable energy. Xin Gin combines the family's Irish roots with their love of East Asia, using a balance of European and East Asian botanicals.

Scapegrace Gift Set Twinpack Premium Dry Gin includes two miniature-format sets of Scapegrace's award-winning gin. Scapegrace was founded in 2014 in New Zealand by brothers-in-law Daniel McLaughlin and Mark Neal together with Richard Bourke, united by a shared dream of making their own gin. The gin is distilled at the foot of New Zealand's Southern Alps on a 19th-century whisky still, discovered in a long-abandoned shed. The brand was originally called Rogue Society, but was renamed Scapegrace in 2017 when it entered the European market and ran into a copyright conflict with a similarly named brewery. Scapegrace Gin was named World's Best London Dry Gin at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2018.
