  • Golden bottle of Danish aquavit aged in Madeira casks
    Item no.: 222278654231473-85

The name isn't a coincidence - this aquavit has actually crossed the equator, twice, on its journey from Copenhagen to Cape Town and back. The result is a soft, golden aquavit with a voyage in every drop.

    The Expert's Description

Ækvator Danish Aquavit is a Danish aquavit at 40% ABV from the tradition-rich house of Oskar Davidsen.

The aquavit is matured in casks that previously held Madeira, and during maturation it literally sails across the equator twice on a voyage from Copenhagen to Cape Town and back. The temperature swings and the ship's movement along the way give the aquavit a special roundness and maturity. Behind the brand stands Oskar Davidsen, the renowned Copenhagen open-sandwich house founded in 1888, known for pairing classic Danish food with well-chosen aquavit.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose is mild and inviting, with notes of Madeira-cask ageing, light spice and a soft sweetness.

    Palate

The palate is soft and balanced with depth from the Madeira casks, alongside notes of caraway, red apples and finer spices.

    Finish

The finish is long and aromatic, with a gentle warmth from the oak that rounds off the experience.

    The Expert's Description

O.P. Anderson Klar is an organic Swedish aquavit at 40% ABV, distilled from pure grain spirit.

Unlike the house's other aquavits, Klar is not aged in oak casks but bottled straight away to keep its clear colour and fresh style. Behind the brand stands the Anderson family of Gothenburg, where Olof Peter Anderson laid the foundation as a pharmacist's apprentice before his son Carl August presented the recipe to the public in 1891 - today part of Anora Group.

There does not need to be anything special to celebrate. Aalborg Jubilæums was born to mark a milestone birthday, but its golden, gentle taste works just as well on an ordinary Thursday, whenever the table could use a little festivity.

    The Expert's Description

Aalborg Jubilæums Akvavit is a golden Danish luxury akvavit at 40% ABV, which came to market in 1946 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the launch of Aalborg Taffel Akvavit.

It is made from a distillate of dill and coriander seed, rounded off with extract of American white oak. Unlike most other akvavits in the range, it is entirely free of caraway seed.

Twice the casks cross the equator, rocking in a cargo hold. The sea does what no warehouse can: it gives time a rolling, restless pulse.

    The Expert's Description

Lysholm Linie Matured at Sea is a Norwegian aquavit at 41.5% ABV, matured according to the classic Linie tradition.

The aquavit is distilled from Norwegian potatoes on pot stills with a spice blend led by caraway and star anise. It then rests in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks that are sent on a months-long sea voyage, crossing the equator twice before returning home. The tradition dates back to 1805, when the Lysholm family shipped a cargo of potato aquavit to the East Indies; interest there was limited, so the cargo sailed home again, and it was only then that the voyage was found to have dramatically improved the flavour. Every drop of Linie has made the same journey ever since.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Caraway and star anise lead, with finer touches of vanilla and sherry.

    Palate

Unusually smooth and well balanced, with spiced warmth and a clear cask influence from the sherry.

Sometimes the best company arrives without warning - a neighbour drops by, or lunch runs long. Aalborg Export is the golden akvavit that always waits in the cupboard, mild and easygoing enough for whatever the day brings.

    The Expert's Description

Aalborg Export Akvavit is a Danish akvavit at 38% ABV, launched in 1913 by C.A. Olesen, one of the founders of De Danske Spritfabrikker.

It is made from a caraway distillate rounded with sherry, which at the time made it the first cask-aged akvavit from Aalborg. That ageing gives the spirit its characteristic golden colour.

Where Aalborg Taffel is sharp and clear, Aalborg Export is softer and rounder, since the caraway aroma is complemented by nuances from the sherry casks.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma is round and inviting with a clear hint of caraway, carried by a light sweetness from the sherry.

    Palate

The palate is balanced and nuanced, where the caraway aroma is complemented by notes of prune and orange.

    Finish

The finish is soft and gently sweet, with a last touch of ripe fruit.

A dew-soaked dill patch on an early summer morning, a slice of rye bread with shrimp and a spoonful of mayonnaise. Aalborg Dild bottles that whole picture into a single glass - green, fresh and ready to pour beside the seafood platter.

    The Expert's Description

Aalborg Dild Akvavit is a Danish akvavit at 38% ABV, made from a distillate of fresh green dill herb along with dill and lemon peel.

The spirit was originally launched in a 50cl bottle, created because Danish akvavit lacked a variant built specifically for fish and shellfish. Its success led to a 2010 relaunch in the classic 70cl Aalborg bottle.

Where many other akvavits lean on caraway, Aalborg Dild is built around the fresh, herbal taste of dill, rounded off with a touch of citrus that gives it extra lightness.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma immediately conjures dew-fresh green dill, rounded off with a touch of citrus.

    Palate

The palate is mild and spiced with clear dill upfront, carried by a light tartness from the lemon peel.

    Item no.: 22227865482-18305

Two years in a used Laphroaig cask gave this snaps a smoky character usually reserved for Scotch whisky – born as fresh nettle snaps, matured into something else entirely.

    The Expert's Description

Fary Lochan Fadlagret Snaps Dansk Akvavit is a Danish aquavit from the distillery in Farre near Give, bottled at 47% ABV.

The spirit starts life as Fary Lochan's fresh nettle snaps, which then spends 2 years resting in a used Laphroaig cask. The cask, previously home to a Scotch single malt, gives the snaps a distinct smoky character and a depth that points straight toward whisky.

It is one of the clearest examples of how Fary Lochan bridges its whisky craft with the more everyday snaps tradition – the same cask-ageing philosophy, applied to an herb-based spirit.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Smoky and slightly peaty, with an underlying sweetness from the nettle and a hint of aged oak.

    Palate

Full-bodied and warm, where smoke from the Laphroaig cask meets the nettle's green, herbal base.

A handful of blueberries is crushed gently against a slice of lemon, and the colour that emerges sits somewhere between blue and violet. That is the image this bottle leaves behind long before you taste it.

    The Expert's Description

Snaps Bornholm Organic No 6 Blueberry and Lemon is an organic Danish aquavit at 40% alcohol.

No 6 combines two main ingredients that rarely meet: sweet, dark blueberries and sharp, fresh lemon. Together they create a balance of sweetness and acidity that has become one of the most recognisable expressions in Snaps Bornholm's numbered range.

The colour is an unusual blue-violet and gives away in the glass exactly what to expect. That makes the aquavit a natural companion for the big cold table and for fish and shellfish dishes, where the acidity from the lemon plays well with the food.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Sweet, dark blueberries meet a fresh sharpness of lemon zest.

    The Expert's Description

Snaps Bornholm Organic No 2 Sea Buckthorn, Dill and Cucumber is an organic Danish aquavit at 40% alcohol.

No 2 is built around three ingredients that rarely meet in the same glass: the rounded, slightly tart sea buckthorn, fresh dill and mild cucumber. The combination is Snaps Bornholm's take on an aquavit that speaks directly to New Nordic cooking.

Where many aquavits lean on caraway and herbs, No 2 takes a different path and lets berries and greens take the lead role. The result is a bottle that feels just as at home with a prawn platter as with the classic herring table.

    Tasting Notes

Midsummer bonfires, bright nights and dill picked while still wet with dew. This akvavit is distilled to taste like Denmark's shortest night.

    The Expert's Description

VI ER AKVAVIT Green Midsummer is a Danish small batch akvavit at 42.8% ABV from the akvavit brand VI.ER, spiced with green dill, juniper berries and spruce shoots.

Where the brand's other bottles start from caraway, Green Midsummer is built around dill, harvested in Denmark during the short window it is at its freshest. The dill is paired with juniper berries and spruce shoots, which give a green, woodland counterpoint to the dill's herbaceous character.

The akvavit is distilled in small batches at the micro-distillery Nordisk Brænderi in northwest Jutland, where every batch is kept limited to preserve the intensity of the freshly picked ingredients.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Intense green dill aroma, closely followed by resinous notes of juniper and spruce shoots.

    Palate

VI ER AKVAVIT Nordic Hygge is a Danish small batch akvavit at 42.8% ABV from the akvavit brand VI.ER, spiced with warm Nordic spices.

Like the brand's other bottles, Nordic Hygge starts from wind-blown caraway from Norway's Vestland, here combined with a warmer spice profile than the classic VI.ER akvavit. The result is a full, soft akvavit built for the colder months.

The akvavit is distilled in small batches at the micro-distillery Nordisk Brænderi in northwest Jutland, where every batch is spiced and bottled in limited numbers.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Warm, spiced aroma where caraway meets sweet, winter-leaning spices and a trace of honey.

    Palate

Caraway leans sideways in the fields of Norway's Vestland, while juniper bushes on Sjællands Odde hold their berries close to the stem. Two opposite ends of the Nordics, meeting in one glass.

    The Expert's Description

VI ER AKVAVIT is a Danish small batch akvavit at 42.8% ABV, created by the young akvavit brand VI.ER, which has worked since 2016 to make akvavit exciting again.

The base is wind-blown caraway from Norway's Vestland, combined with hand-picked, wild-growing green and dark juniper berries from Sjællands Odde. The akvavit is distilled in small batches at the micro-distillery Nordisk Brænderi in northwest Jutland, close to the Bay of Denmark.

Because every ingredient is foraged rather than farmed, only limited quantities of each batch are made, giving it a more hand-crafted, exclusive character than most akvavits on the market.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh, sharp caraway meets a floral trace of juniper, lending a resinous, almost woodland edge.

    Palate

Crisp and full, where caraway lays down a lightly sweet, liquorice base while the juniper adds depth and a faint bitter edge.

    The Expert's Description

Fur Malt is a Danish akvavit at 38% ABV, spiced with elderflower and produced by Fur Bryghus on the island of Fur in the Limfjord.

The name Malt refers to the bottle's place within Fur Bryghus' snaps series rather than a malt-heavy base spirit, it is elderflower that carries the flavour. The akvavit is brewed together with the micro-distillery Braunstein in Køge, like the rest of the series.

The island of Fur is known for its moler, a pale, mineral-rich clay stone formed from volcanic ash millions of years ago, and it is through these very layers that the brewery's spring water is filtered.

    Tasting Notes

The akvavit is part of Fur Bryghus' exclusive snaps series, brewed together with the micro-distillery Braunstein in Køge. Sea buckthorn gives the golden drops their characteristic colour and a tart, sweet berry character that sets it apart from a more classic caraway or dill akvavit.

Fur Bryghus uses water drawn from the island itself, filtered through layers of moler, the pale, mineral-rich clay stone Fur is known for far beyond the Limfjord.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

A summer garden in Odense, dill that smells of childhood, and a story that never quite lets go. That is where this bottle begins, grown from the same soil as the fairy tales themselves.

    The Expert's Description

HC Andersen Dill Akvavit New Danish Fairytale is an organic dill akvavit at 43% ABV, named after Denmark's best-known teller of fairy tales.

The bottle belongs to the "New Danish Fairytale" range, which wraps classic Danish akvavit tradition in a modern, story-driven presentation tied to Hans Christian Andersen's world. It is built on an organic grain spirit in which dill carries the main flavour, the legal requirement for anything labelled akvavit in Denmark.

The organic starting point means both grain and herbs are grown without artificial fertiliser or pesticides, giving a cleaner, more direct expression of the dill itself.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh dill fronds and a touch of aniseed meet a light citrus lift, giving the akvavit a green, summery character.

    Palate
