Thirty million years ago, resin dripped from northern forests and hardened into amber. In Aalborg Nordguld, that ancient treasure is fused with caraway and dill - an akvavit that quite literally carries the gold of the North.

    The Expert's Description

Aalborg Nordguld Akvavit is a Danish akvavit at 40% ABV, launched in 2007 as the world's first - and still only - akvavit featuring aroma compounds that have been encapsulated in amber for up to 30 million years.

Amber is also known as the gold of the North, which gave the akvavit its name. Alongside the amber distillate, Aalborg Nordguld contains distillate of caraway and dill seed, finished after resting on sherry casks.

The result is an akvavit where the classic caraway character is complemented by the truly distinctive, earthy note of amber.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma leads with caraway seed and a discreet vanilla, before a deeper, earthy tone appears in the background.

    Palate

The palate is smooth and round with character, where caraway carries the first impression while the amber adds depth.

    Finish

Given a moment, the finish reveals the amber, with notes reminiscent of rosemary, pine needles and resin.
