It combines the depth of European sherry oak — dried fruit, warm spice, dark chocolate — with the fruity and creamy contribution of American oak. The 2024 release is the latest annual release in the 18 Year Old Double Cask line, and with 18 years in cask the complexity and integration of the two cask types reaches its peak in the series.

The bottle works as a gift, as an occasion in itself and as the dram you open when you decide to take your time.

Tasting notes

Nose

Rich and sweet with orange marmalade, prunes and dried dates. Dark chocolate, cinnamon and nutmeg with a hint of tobacco from European oak.

Palate

Full and complex — caramelised fruits, fig and a deep sherry sweetness. Warm spice with ginger and black pepper, and a beautiful richness from American oak.

Finish

Macallan Quest is a discontinued Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky with no age statement (NAS), bottled at 40%. Quest was launched in 2018 as a replacement for the 1824 Collection in the Travel Retail segment and is matured in four cask types: ex-bourbon casks, sherry seasoned European oak casks, sherry seasoned American oak casks and hogsheads. The combination creates an expression with fruity freshness and lightly spiced sweetness — accessible and well balanced.

As a NAS whisky, Quest is designed for consistency rather than vintage depth. It is a whisky that works without demanding anything of the drinker.

Sienna was the third most intense expression in the series, and its deep terracotta hue reflects a long and richly sherried life in cask.

Macbeth First Witch 19 Year Old is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Ardbeg, matured in Pedro Ximenez casks and bottled at 51.7%.

First Witch is the opening bottle in the Witches series, part of Livingstone's wider Macbeth Collection, where every release is named after a character from Shakespeare's tragedy and illustrated by British artist Quentin Blake.
