Blue Label arrived in 1999 and quickly picked up a nickname among the distillery staff: bottle of the month, the one that came with the pay slip. It is rarely a bad recommendation when the people who make the whisky take it home themselves.

    The expert's description

Dew of Ben Nevis Blue Label is a Blended Scotch Whisky matured in oak casks and bottled at 40 %.

Dew of Ben Nevis is the blend range of the distillery, with Blue Label sitting as the lightest and sweetest expression. It differs from Special Reserve and Supreme Selection by aiming at accessibility rather than weight, and it was introduced in 1999.

The blend combines malt whisky from Ben Nevis with grain whisky, and the distillery in Fort William handles both production and composition. It is not common for a single distillery to blend and bottle its own blend under its own name as well.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Light and sweet with vanilla, pale cereal and a touch of honey.

    Palate

Soft and simple with caramel and malt. The sweetness dominates and there are no sharp edges along the way.

    Finish

Short and clean with a last malty warmth.

Frequently asked questions about Ben Nevis Dew Blue Label

What is Dew of Ben Nevis?

The blended whisky range of the distillery, where malt whisky from Ben Nevis is combined with grain whisky. The series has several expressions, and Blue Label is the lightest and most approachable of them.

How does Blue Label differ from Special Reserve?

Blue Label is sweeter and lighter on the palate. Special Reserve and Supreme Selection carry more body and a clearer malt core, where Blue Label aims for softness rather than depth.

Is it made at the Ben Nevis distillery?

The malt component comes from Ben Nevis in Fort William, and both blending and bottling take place at the distillery. The grain whisky is bought in, as is normal for blends.

What separates this from a single malt from the same distillery?

A single malt contains only malt whisky from one distillery. This mixes malt with grain whisky, which gives a lighter and milder profile with less of the raw character of the distillery.

Can you use it for cocktails?

Yes, that is an obvious use. The sweetness and the light body hold up well in a highball with soda or in a simple drink with ginger beer and lime.

    How is it best drunk?

At room temperature in a whisky glass, or with an ice cube if you prefer it cold. At 40 % it takes dilution without falling apart entirely.
