At the far edge of the Ardnamurchan peninsula, where the Atlantic washes over Scotland's westernmost point, lies the valley of Glenborrodale.

    Expert description

Glenborrodale 8 Year Old Batch Release No. 3 from Adelphi is a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky matured in sherry casks and bottled at 46%. The whisky is the third release in Adelphi's ongoing Glenborrodale series, in which several Scotch single malts are combined into one blended malt built around a firm sherry core. Batch Release No. 3 is bottled with no chill filtration and no added colour, with only 1,014 bottles made of this particular release. The name Glenborrodale comes from the small valley on the Ardnamurchan peninsula where Adelphi's owners built their own distillery in 2014 — the blended malt is thus named after the land the company would later come to distil on. Adelphi itself dates back to 1826, when the name was first used for a distillery in Glasgow's Gorbals district. It closed in 1907, but was revived in 1993 as an independent bottler, and since 2004 Keith Falconer and Donald Houston have led the company.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Rich and malty with layers of fresh sherry, condensed milk and biscuit sweetness, while a hint of citrus cuts through in the background.

    Palate

On the palate you meet chocolate-dipped wafers, rum-and-raisin fudge and a mild, coastal peat smoke that can just be glimpsed behind the red fruit.

    Finish

The finish is medium-length with prunes and sugared almonds, slowly turning into a dry, lightly smoky tail.

    Did you know?

Frequently asked questions about Glenborrodale 8 år Batch Release nr 3 Adelphi Blended Malt Scotch Whisky

What does Glenborrodale 8 Year Old Batch Release No. 3 taste like?

It offers a sherry-driven sweetness with chocolate, rum-and-raisin fudge and a faint hint of smoke underneath. The nose has layers of fresh sherry and biscuit, while the finish lands softly on prunes and sugared almonds.

Is Glenborrodale a single malt or a blended whisky?

It's a blended malt — a combination of several Scotch single malts from different distilleries, brought together by independent bottler Adelphi. That's why the label carries no single distillery name, only Adelphi's own brand.

    How is Glenborrodale best served?

Best at room temperature, ideally in a tulip-shaped glass so the aroma can open up. A few drops of water can open the sherry notes further, while ice will mute both aroma and flavour.

Why is the whisky called Glenborrodale when Adelphi doesn't distil it themselves?

The name is taken from the valley on the Ardnamurchan peninsula where Adelphi's owners later built their own distillery. The blended malt was thus named after the place long before any spirit ran through Adelphi's own stills.

What kind of bottler is Adelphi?

Adelphi is a Scottish independent bottler whose name originally comes from a distillery in Glasgow's Gorbals district from 1826. The name was revived in 1993, and since 2004 the company has been owned by Keith Falconer and Donald Houston, who in 2014 also opened Ardnamurchan Distillery.

Is Glenborrodale 8 years Batch Release no 3 Adelphi Blended Malt Scotch Whisky 46% a good gift idea?

Yes, Glenborrodale 8 years Batch Release no 3 Adelphi Blended Malt Scotch Whisky 46% is a natural choice for anyone who appreciates craftsmanship and characterful flavour experiences — especially for the whisky enthusiast keen to explore beyond the most familiar names.
