Peaty Whiskey

On this page you will find our large selection of peaty whiskey. Peaty whiskeys are part of the many scotch whiskeys and come with their very own unique flavor and provide a fantastic new addition to your whiskey collection.

Peaty whiskey originates on the Scottish island of Islay. For generations, Islay has dried the barley used in whiskey over a peat bonfire, giving peaty whiskey its unique flavor.

You're never doubt if you're drinking a peaty whiskey from Islay, precisely because of the more powerful taste that's expressed due to the manufacturing process.

With us, you will find in this category a wide variety of world-famous peaty whiskey served in bars around the globe, including the amazing Laphroaig, the powerful Bowmore Tempest and many more. Whatever whiskey you prefer, we are positive that we can find a bottle and brand that fits your palate!
  • Mac-Talla Terra Single Islay Malt Whisky 70 cl 46
    Item no.: 2222666333-2022-01-0001
Mac-Talla Terra Single Islay Malt Whisky 70 cl 46% The Mac-Talla range was created by the Morrison family, who have been making Islay whisky for 5 generations. Mac-Talla is Gaelic for echo and refers to the fact that the family's long history resonates across the island. The island Islay with its long tradition of whisky offers great experiences shaped by the elements. The three whiskies in the series are named after the island's elements - Terra (earth), Mara (sea), Strata (rock). Terra means earth. And it is the earth, in the form of peat smoke, that has made a big impact on the flavor of this delicious smoky whisky. "This perfectly reflects the peat smoke in this expression, deriving its characteristics from Islay's ground." The color is light straw yellow. On the nose we find elegant notes of citrus, smoked barley malt and fresh sea air. The taste offers clean campfire smoke, with a hint of salty sea air and a distinct smoky aftertaste. A delight for anyone who appreciates a classic Islay whisky The history of the Morrison family's Islay business begins with whisky merchant William Walker in the 1930s. Stanley P. Morrison began his apprenticeship at T. William Walker & Co. By 1951 it was time to strike out on his own and he set up his own whisky company 'Stanley P Morrison Ltd', working with many of the well-known blended whisky producers. In 1963, he bought Islay's oldest whisky distillery Bowmore (now owned by Suntory). Today, Stanley's son and grandson run the company behind Mac-Talla, which naturally belongs at Islay. • Meikle Tòir The Chinquapin One bottle with golden peated whisky
    Item no.: 059763-615-143

Chinquapin is an American oak species you rarely encounter in Scotch whisky – at Meikle Tòir it becomes a surprisingly spicy frame around the distillery's smoky style.

    Expert description

Meikle Tòir 5 Year Old The Chinquapin One is a peated Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in virgin oak casks made from chinquapin oak, bottled at 48%.

Meikle Tòir is GlenAllachie's peated sister series, launched in 2023. The name means "the big pursuit" in Scottish Gaelic. The whisky undergoes a fermentation of around 160 hours, markedly longer than usual, giving the spirit a fruitiness that plays off the peat smoke. The peat comes from the Scottish mainland and sits at around 35 PPM.

The Chinquapin One is named after the American oak species chinquapin, used for the virgin oak casks in this release. Chinquapin oak is rare in Scotch whisky production and known for imparting a more intense and spicy character than common American white oak.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers peated smoke alongside sweet vanilla and freshly sawn wood, with a spicy undercurrent of coconut and lightly toasted caramel from the chinquapin oak.

    Palate

The palate combines smoke with a pronounced sweetness of vanilla and butterscotch, while the oak's spice gives a touch of pepper and dry wood structure.

    Finish

The finish is smoky and lightly sweet, with a dry, spiced ending where the oak lingers long after the smoke has faded.

Smoke and sherry sweetness in the same glass sounds like a contradiction, but at Meikle Tòir it is exactly that contrast that drives the story forward.

    Expert description

Meikle Tòir 5 Year Old The Sherry One is a peated Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in PX and Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 48%.

Meikle Tòir is GlenAllachie's peated sister series, launched in 2023. The name means "the big pursuit" in Scottish Gaelic and refers to the distillery's search for a peated style that still carries GlenAllachie's signature. The whisky undergoes an unusually long fermentation of around 160 hours, giving a spirit with more fruit and depth than you would normally associate with peated whisky. The peat comes from the Scottish mainland and sits at around 35 PPM.

The Sherry One is matured in a combination of PX and Oloroso sherry casks, layering dark fruit sweetness on top of the smoke.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Smoke greets you first, quickly followed by dark sherry sweetness – think plum jam and cane sugar – with an underlying aroma of ash and dried seaweed.

    Palate

The palate offers peated smoke and stewed dark fruit side by side, with baking spices and a touch of dark chocolate tying the two sides together.

    Finish

The finish is long and smoky, with a sweet tail of sherry that slowly gives way to ash.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-1957568483930205

Peat and bourbon are two things that don't always go hand in hand. But Mosgaard has done it – and batch number one is here. Peated malt meets the bourbon cask's vanilla and sweetness in an organic Danish expression at 48.4%.

    Expert description

Mosgaard Peated Bourbon Batch #1 is an organic Peated Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 48.4% from Mosgaard Distillery in Odense. The whisky is the first batch in Mosgaard's Peated Bourbon series – peated malt matured in ex-bourbon casks. It is a combination that creates an interesting contrast: the smoke from the peat meets the sweet vanilla and caramel of the bourbon cask, and the result is a smoky expression with a softer, fruitier edge than typical peated whiskies matured in ex-sherry casks. Bottled in 50 cl format.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Smoky peat with the bourbon cask's sweet vanilla and caramel underneath. An interesting intersection of smoke and sweetness.

    Palate

Fresh smoke with bourbon vanilla, light citrus sweetness and grain in the background. The bourbon cask softens the peat and gives a more fruity and approachable smoke style.

    Finish

Medium long with lingering smoke and a soft, lightly vanilla-sweet close from the bourbon cask.

    Did you know?

Ex-bourbon casks are one of the most widely used cask types in the whisky world – but the combination with peated malt is relatively uncommon. Most peated single malts use ex-sherry casks to amplify the smoke. Mosgaard's Peated Bourbon Batch #1 does the opposite and gives the peat a light, fresh bourbon foundation instead of a dark, fruity sherry base.

Smoke and bourbon. A pairing that doesn't happen all that often – but when it does, a new dimension opens in peated whisky. Mosgaard Peated Bourbon Cask is proof that peat doesn't need sherry to be complex.

    Expert description

Mosgaard Peated Bourbon Cask is an organic Peated Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 49.2% from Mosgaard Distillery in Odense. The whisky is made from peated malt and matured in ex-bourbon casks, which add vanilla, caramel and a fresh, light fruitiness to the smoky expression. Unlike peated whiskies matured in ex-sherry casks, the bourbon cask gives a lighter and more approachable smoke style. Bottled in 50 cl format.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Smoky peat with bourbon vanilla and caramel underneath. Light grain fruitiness and a fresh, approachable smoke intensity.

    Palate

Soft smoke at 49.2% with the organic grain's freshness and the bourbon cask's sweet vanilla. More fruity and light than typical heavy-peat styles. A good entry point into peated whisky.

    Did you know?

Most of the world's best-known peated whiskies – from Islay and Scotland – use ex-sherry casks for finishing. The bourbon cask is rarer in the peated category. It gives a completely different flavour dimension: lighter, fresher and with a grainy quality that lets the smoke stand clearly without drowning it in heavy sherry sweetness.

Miyagikyo was originally built to complement Yoichi's powerful style with something softer - peating Miyagikyo therefore turns the distillery's basic purpose on its head.

Octomore Farm sits three kilometres from the distillery, and in 13.3 you can taste that distance. Edition 13.3 is the most rounded in its series, giving fruit just as much room as the smoke.

    Expert description

Octomore 13.3 is a super-peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Bruichladdich, matured for 5 years and bottled at 61.1%.

The barley is 100% Concerto, grown on Octomore Farm itself and peated to 129.3 ppm. The whisky is matured for five years in a combination of first-fill European oak casks from Rivesaltes in France and Ribera del Duero in Spain, along with first-fill American whiskey casks.

  • Bottle of Octomore Ten Dialogos, a 10-year-old super-peated whisky
    Item no.: 22227865413-11-10

Dialogos means conversation, and that's exactly what happens in this glass. Ten years of maturation talks down Octomore's raw strength, without ever falling silent.

    Expert description

Octomore Ten Dialogos is a super-peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Bruichladdich, matured for 10 years and bottled at 54.3%.

The whisky is peated to 208 ppm and matured in a combination of first-fill ex-bourbon casks and fresh Virgin Oak casks. Although it carries one of the highest ppm counts in its series, it comes across as more restrained in smoke, precisely because ten years of maturation has rounded off the edges.

Distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2020, Dialogos shows how time can transform an extremely peated whisky without extinguishing its character.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Salt, honey and tropical fruit such as pineapple and mango, with the peat smoke sitting as a deep, earthy base.

    Palate

Rich and layered with sweet fruit and honey, giving way to a warm, lingering peat smoke and a touch of oak.

    Finish

Long and smoky with a soft sweetness and a dry, ashy finish.

Dialogos takes its name from the Greek word for conversation, a nod to how ten years of maturation creates a dialogue between raw, young peat smoke and the mellowing effect of the cask.

  • Penderyn Serpents Tears First Release bottle from North Wales
    Item no.: 22227865397-260

The Vikings called it exactly that — a giant serpent lurking off the coast at Llandudno. Now that same coastline has its own distillery, and its first bottle carries the name of the beast sailors once feared.

    Expert description

Penderyn Serpents Tears First Release is a Single Malt Welsh Whisky made with peated malt and bottled at 46%, distilled at Penderyn's new site in Llandudno, North Wales — the first place in around 125 years where peated whisky has been distilled in Wales. The name comes from the Great Orme, a limestone headland at Llandudno whose name derives from the Old Norse word for 'great serpent,' a nod to the Viking sailors who once feared its steep cliffs.

The first release is limited to around 6,000 bottles, some of which sold directly online at launch in 2025. Where Penderyn's Gold range draws its smoke entirely from the casks, Serpents Tears is different: here the smoke comes from the peated malt itself, making it something new within Penderyn's otherwise light, cask-driven range.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers dried leaves, ripe orchard fruit and a note of smoke, backed by toasted bread.

    Palate

The palate combines sweet peat with creamy vanilla and baked apple, spiced with pepper and a touch of clove.

    Finish

The finish is warm and softly smoky, with a barley sweetness that lingers.

Port Askaig 15 Years Old is a limited edition single malt whisky from Islay – and as always with Port Askaig, the name of the actual distillery remains a secret. We do know, however, that the whisky comes from the north coast, which strongly suggests either Caol Ila or Bunnahabhain… part of the brand’s charm and mystery.

This release is composed of 30 casks, all traditional refill hogsheads, and it is bottled at 50.5% without chill‑filtration and with no added colour. The result is a whisky with natural character, depth and a clean, unadulterated Islay profile.

    Colour: Golden.
Nose: Elegant combination of vanilla pods, sea breeze, oregano and subtle BBQ smoke.
