  • Scarabus Cigar Malt Edition Hunter Laing Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 46%
    Item no.: 222249-12235

There's a bottle on Islay nobody will name a name for. Behind the bronze label with its hidden symbols sits a peated dram, born to mark the opening of Hunter Laing's own distillery, Ardnahoe. Scarabus means "a rocky place" in Old Norse - and that's about as much as the Laing family are willing to give away.

    Expert's Description

Scarabus Cigar Malt is a peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, fully matured across Oloroso sherry casks, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and Ruby Port casks, and bottled at 46%.

Scarabus Cigar Malt is the newest addition to Hunter Laing's Scarabus collection, and it stands apart from the other expressions through its cask composition. Where the original bottling sticks to a more classic maturation, Cigar Malt is matured simultaneously across three cask types - Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez and Ruby Port - each layering something different on top of the signature Islay peat. The source distillery is undisclosed, as is tradition across the whole Scarabus range, though the depth of the smoke and the oily texture hint at one of the island's better-known peated producers.

The name Cigar Malt is no accident. The whisky is built to hold its own against a bold cigar without either one drowning the other out - cocoa, roasted notes and a persistent smokiness give it the weight for it.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Rich and generous with candied orange peel, stewed red berries and almonds, while an earthy peat works through underneath.

    Palate

Dry peat smoke layers with dark treacle, dark fruit and a gentle, toasted sweetness from the casks.

    Finish

Long and warming, with a rounded sweetness that lingers well after the last sip.

    Did You Know?

The symbols on the Scarabus label are deliberately cryptic and draw on islander John Francis Campbell's invention, a sunshine recorder that tracked the hours of daylight on Islay - the same urge to measure the unmeasurable runs through the brand's whole "only those who seek shall find" philosophy.

  • Adventures In The Meadow bottle with comic book label from Whiskyheroes
    Item no.: 22233-450

The label looks like something torn out of a 1960s action comic. The whisky behind it is rather more restrained: sixteen years in one bourbon cask from a Speyside distillery that cannot be named.

    The expert's description

Adventures In The Meadow is a Single Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky from a single bourbon hogshead, bottled at cask strength 54.7%.

The cask carried number 48 and gave 308 bottles after sixteen years. The whisky is non-chill filtered and of natural colour, so what is in the glass comes from the cask and nothing else.

The bottling comes from Whiskyheroes, a range by the Glasgow-based company Brave New Spirits. The series consists of single casks and small batches matured in classic bourbon and sherry casks, and the labels are drawn from vintage action comics. Tasting notes

    Nose

A California rye born when a city dweller's love of Sonoma country turned into a distillery.

    Expert description

Sonoma County Rye California is an American rye whiskey, bottled at 48%, from Sonoma Distilling Company. The distillery was founded in 2010 by Adam Spiegel, who grew up in San Francisco and discovered his passion for spirits in 2008 while helping a distiller friend in Santa Rosa. The rye whiskey is double distilled in handmade copper pot stills, made from a mash of 80% unmalted Californian and Canadian rye and 20% malted rye from the UK, giving it a distinctly spicy backbone with nutty and fruity overtones. The whiskey is aged for at least 15 months in smaller casks.

  • Bottle of undisclosed Speyside malt from Signatory Vintage with sherry-toned label
    Item no.: 059755-8888

Some distilleries refuse to put their name on the label, yet the whisky speaks clearly enough on its own. This 16 year old Speyside malt is one of those bottles where the silence around the source only sharpens the curiosity.

    Expert Description

Speyside (GL) 16 Year Old Signatory Exceptional Cask 100 Proof Edition #8 is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, bottled at cask strength of 57.1%.

The bottle belongs to Signatory Vintage's Exceptional Cask series, where independent releases from named and undisclosed distilleries are gathered under a single theme: casks that stand out from the crowd. The distillery behind this release has not been disclosed, but the character points clearly toward Speyside's classic, sherry-driven style. 16 years of maturation has given the whisky a deep, concentrated sherry character, and the Edition #8 number confirms there are several casks behind the series, of which this one was selected for its power and weight.

At 57.1% ABV, the strength once known in the English-speaking world as "100 Proof", this is a whisky built for those who want the flavour in its most uncompromising form.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dried dates, raisins and figs meet honey and dark chocolate, with a hint of leather and tobacco in the background.

    Palate

Full-bodied and oily with malty, spiced notes, a light peppery heat and a sweetness reminiscent of sultanas in dark syrup.

    Finish

Long and rounded, where tart fruit and a soft sweetness stay together to the very end.

    Did You Know?

When a Speyside distillery chooses to bottle without a name on the label, it is usually down to contractual agreements between the distillery and the owners of the bottle supply. Whisky drinkers often call it "a secret Speyside", and part of the fun of a bottle like this is guessing the source from the flavour alone.

  • Glen Elgin Tapestry Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottle from three cask types
    Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0106

It is called Tapestry because three cask types are woven together rather than following one another. That is a different idea from the classic finish, where one cask gets the last word.

    The expert description

Glen Elgin 2009/2022 Tapestry 13 Years Old is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in oloroso sherry casks, Pedro Ximenez sherry casks and bourbon casks, bottled at 50%.

The whisky was distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2022 after thirteen years. Tapestry is a range from the Uncharted Whisky Company, founded by the Scot Jack Breslin and the Dutch-German Dana de Vos, who both worked in the whisky trade for many years before setting up on their own.

The three cask types each pull in their own direction. The bourbon casks give vanilla and pale fruit, oloroso adds nut and dried fruit, and Pedro Ximenez brings the dark, almost syrupy sweetness. Put together they land on a profile none of them would have given alone. The whisky is bottled at 50% without chill filtration and without colouring.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Raisin and dried apricot first, then vanilla and walnut, with a note of dark syrup in the background.

    Palate

Full and layered. Yellow fruit and honey from the bourbon wood, dates and nut from the sherry, and a dark sweetness tying it together.

  • Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery bottle from Adelphi Selection with golden Moscatel colour
    Item no.: 059763-615-654

Just north of Filey Bay on the Yorkshire coast, a distillery grows its own barley and fills it into cask a few hundred metres from the field. This bottling is drawn from a single Moscatel hogshead by Adelphi, one of Scotland's most experienced independent bottlers, offering a rare look at the distillery's early, energetic style.

    Expert's Description

Spirit of Yorkshire 2018/2023 Adelphi Selection 5 Year Old is a Single Malt English Whisky matured in a first fill Moscatel hogshead and bottled at 48%.

The distillery on Filey Bay is Yorkshire's first of its kind, growing and malting its own barley, distilling and maturing it all on the same family farm in Hunmanby. This single cask was distilled in 2018 and drawn from cask number 3054 in 2023, giving the Moscatel wood five years to leave its mark on the spirit. The release is limited to 330 bottles.

Adelphi has spent twenty years building its reputation as an independent bottler on exactly this kind of find: young distilleries, unusual casks, and bottlings released without colouring or chill filtration, letting the spirit speak for itself.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose opens with cinnamon and honeycomb, quickly followed by orange marmalade and a dusting of dark cocoa. Underneath the sweetness sits a faint cereal freshness that hints at the whisky's youth.

    Palate

The palate is warm and spiced, carrying dried fruit, marzipan and a tart edge of citrus peel. The Moscatel cask lends a wine-like sweetness that ties the cinnamon and honey together.

    Finish

The finish is medium in length, dry, faintly peppery, with a last trace of honey cake.

  • Bunnahabhain Staoisha bottle from A. D. Rattray with deep colour
    Item no.: 22227865449-18778

    A. D. Rattray has traded in casks since 1868, and when Bunnahabhain's young Staoisha spirit lands with them, it arrives undiluted and without detours.

    Expert's Description

Bunnahabhain Staoisha 2013/2019 A. D. Rattray 5 Years Old is a Single Islay Malt Whisky matured in a bourbon hogshead and bottled at cask strength, 60.1%.

The whisky was distilled in October 2013 and bottled after just five years, giving a young and raw take on Staoisha – Bunnahabhain's peated spirit. A. D. Rattray drew it from cask #10537 and bottled it straight from the wood without chill filtration.

The young age means the peat smoke stands right at the front of the glass, while the bourbon cask has only just begun to add a light sweetness on top.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh peat smoke with a hint of citrus and freshly baked bread.

    Palate

Powerful smoke meets pepper and a young sweetness of vanilla custard.

Smoke meets sweetness. Stauning Smoke finished in Tawny Port casks is an expression in two acts – the fresh West Jutland smoke and the South European sweetness of the port cask.

    Expert description

Stauning Smoke Tawny Port Cask Finish Limited Edition is a Danish Whisky bottled at 50.3% without chill filtration. The base is Stauning's Smoke – made from floor-malted smoked barley peated with heather and oak chips – which has then been finished in Tawny Port casks. The porter casks add chocolate, coffee and maltiness to the rye's naturally spiced and smoky base.

  • Talisker 10 Year Old Old Version bottle without a tax band on the cork
    Item no.: 505956-498796-169-70

A tax band is really just a small strip of paper across the cork - but its absence tells a story about where a bottle originally came from. This Talisker 10 Year Old is an Old Version without the Danish tax band, most likely brought in through a different channel than standard Danish retail.

Note: This release has no Danish tax band.

    Expert Description

Talisker 10 Year Old Old Version without tax band is an Isle of Skye Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured in American oak casks and bottled at 45.8%. The whisky is identical to the classic 10 Year Old, but the bottle lacks the Danish tax band normally placed across the cork on bottles sold through the Danish duty system.

That makes it a slightly different edition for the collector, without changing what's in the bottle - the smoke, salt and pepper are still the same signature Talisker has always been known for.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers smoke, sea salt and citrus, with a sweetness that keeps things balanced and a hint of pepper foreshadowing the palate's later edge.

    Palate

The palate is powerful and warming, with smoke, sea salt and citrus up front, backed by a pleasant sweetness and a clear peppery edge.

    Finish

The finish is intense and fairly long, with a touch of pepper that stays well after the last sip.

    Item no.: 22227865555

If Talisker Storm is a strong wind out of the west, Dark Storm is that same storm after it has picked up speed over open water. This 100cl bottling matures in heavily charred casks and heads in a deeper, darker direction than its smaller sibling.

Note: This release has been discontinued from Talisker's core range.

    Expert Description

Talisker Dark Storm is a no-age-statement Isle of Skye Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured in heavily charred American oak casks and bottled at 45.8%. It has been discontinued from the distillery's core range, but builds on the same base recipe as Talisker Storm.

The heavy charring of the casks gives a deeper, smokier character than the standard Storm, without losing the distillery's salty, peppery core. The 100cl size makes it a natural bottle for sharing, or for anyone wanting more whisky per bottle.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose is sweet with butterscotch and honey, followed by briny, salty notes and a distinct smokiness that builds towards the end.

    Palate

The palate offers vanilla and butterscotch sweetness sliding into sea salt and seaweed, with an earthy, faintly nutty edge.

    Finish

The finish closes salty and smoky, with a warm, lingering note of charred wood.

    Item no.: 22225390-7558

Speyside filtered through Cadenhead's uncompromising lens: no added colour, no chill-filtration, just Tamdhu's own spiced, fruit-laden spirit lifted to 46% and left to a refill oloroso cask to finish the story.

    Expert description

Tamdhu-Glenlivet 2013/2025 Cadenhead's Original Collection 12 Year Old is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured in refill oloroso hogsheads and bottled at 46%.

This release belongs to Cadenhead's Original Collection, the series in which Scotland's oldest independent bottler presents single distillery spirit with nothing added and nothing filtered out. The liquid comes from Tamdhu in Knockando, a distillery founded in 1897 and now owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, who have shaped it into one of Speyside's most sherry-driven malts. The "Glenlivet" suffix is an old regional naming tradition from a time when the name signalled quality across Speyside rather than pointing to another distillery.

The whisky spent twelve years in refill oloroso hogsheads, casks that had already given up much of their first sherry punch. That means a more restrained, savoury sherry note, letting Tamdhu's own spiced, fruit-forward character lead rather than being buried under dark sherry. This particular batch was bottled in May 2026 as part of the Original Collection.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dulce de leche and soft caramel open up alongside a streak of raspberry sorbet and baked pear, sweet and inviting with Speyside fruit right up front.

    Palate

Blueberry and crystallised ginger meet a grainy, almost rye-bread-like note, spicy and savoury with an oily weight that carries the 46% comfortably.

    Finish

Mandarin and vanilla drift into a hint of lemongrass, medium in length and fresh on the way out.

    Item no.: 222355-9876

Fourteen years on bourbon casks and one last, active push through a port pipe. Little Brown Dog has found a Tamnavulin cask that insists on tasting of dark berries and warm spice.

    Expert description

Tamnavulin Distillery 2010 Little Brown Dog Port Pipe is a Single Speyside Scotch Whisky, matured in bourbon casks with a finishing period in a port pipe and bottled at 52.4%.

Little Brown Dog Spirits is an independent bottler founded in Aberdeenshire in 2018 by Andrew Smith and Chris Reid, recognisable by the little brown dog that features on every label. The company buys casks from distilleries across Scotland and bottles them under its own name, often in small, hand-picked batches.

This release was distilled at Tamnavulin in 2010 and matured on bourbon casks until 2024, when the whisky was moved into a highly active port pipe. That short but intense finishing period has given the whisky a pronounced character of dark berries and spice. Only 424 bottles were produced of this Small Batch release, bottled at cask strength with no chill-filtration.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dark cherry and blackberry meet a warm note of clove and a hint of freshly baked bun.

    Palate

Full-bodied and berry-driven, with notes of blackcurrant jelly, dark chocolate and a peppery spice streak from the cask strength.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1108

A hogshead that received a final kiss from an Italian Barrique cask, and a spirit that answers back with depth and the full force of cask strength.

    Expert description

Teaninich 13 Year Old Rare Cask from Lady of the Glen is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2023 from cask no. 721009, a hogshead finished in a Profiler Barrique cask, at full cask strength of 58%.

The bottling belongs to Lady of the Glen's Rare Cask range, where the whisky, after its primary maturation, gains an extra layer of complexity from a Barrique cask, a cask type more commonly associated with wine. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured, so what sits in the glass is as close to the raw spirit as it gets.

The 13 years of maturation and the subsequent Barrique finish have given the whisky a deep, spiced character that balances Teaninich's natural cereal lightness with a darker, more wine-toned dimension.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dark berries, a touch of tobacco and a warm spiced scent from the Barrique cask.

    Palate

Rich and intense, with notes of dark chocolate, red fruit flesh and a hint of pepper.

    Finish

271 bottles, one cask, and sixteen years of quiet maturation in a Refill Hogshead that let the spirit speak for itself.

    Expert description

Teaninich 2004/2020 is a 16-year-old Single Highland Malt Whisky from independent bottler Lady of the Glen, distilled in 2004 and bottled in 2020 from cask no. 301139, a Refill Hogshead, at full cask strength of 53.2%.

This is a single cask release, meaning the entire run of 271 bottles comes from one and the same cask. This Limited Release is neither chill-filtered nor coloured, and the nearly 16-year maturation in a refill cask has given the whisky plenty of flavour without letting the wood dominate too heavily.

The result is a whisky that still lets Teaninich's cereal-driven core character shine through, while the cask strength adds an extra dimension of body and intensity.

  • Teaninich 2008 from Mossburn, cask strength matured in an Oloroso sherry cask
    Item no.: 059763-615-129

Fourteen years in a used Oloroso cask have given this Teaninich a deep, dark sweetness that plays beautifully against the distillery's usually light style - bottled at full cask strength, unfiltered, uncompromised.

    Expert description

Teaninich 2008/2022 Mossburn is a 14 year old Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky bottled at cask strength, 54.9%, from independent bottler Mossburn Distillers' Vintage Casks range.

Vintage Casks is a relatively new series from Mossburn, where each cask is hand-picked by Master Blender Neil MacLeod Mathieson with a focus on characterful, rare single casks. This Teaninich matured in a used Oloroso sherry puncheon (batch no. #22.0208.SC41), which lent the whisky dried fruit character and a deeper, richer colour.

The whisky was distilled on 22 February 2008 and bottled on 7 November 2022, presented non-chill filtered and with natural colour. Only 685 bottles were released.

    Tasting notes

    Palate

Powerful and full-bodied, with stewed fruit, walnut and a pleasant sherry sweetness carried by the high strength.

    Finish

Long and warm, with a lightly bitter cocoa note and a final trace of spiced oak.
