  • Glenfarclas 15 Year Old small 20 cl bottle with dark golden whisky
    Item no.: 505956-498796-648

Twenty centilitres is enough for four proper glasses. That is the amount where you can work out whether a whisky is for you without committing — and with a 15 year old that is a reasonable place to start.

    The expert's description

Glenfarclas 15 Year Old is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in sherry casks and bottled at 46% in a 20 cl bottle.

The contents are the same as in the large release. The 46% is higher than in both the 10 and the 12 year old, and over fifteen years the sherry has had time to build a depth the younger releases do not reach. The small format makes no difference to the whisky — only to the quantity.

Glenfarclas carries age statements right up to forty years in its permanent range. That is unusual for a family-owned distillery, and it requires generations of restraint in selling off old casks. The 15 year old sits around the middle of that ladder.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Complex sherry notes with a touch of understated smoke, cream caramel and a hint of dried fruits such as dates and figs.

    Palate

Great body with elegant balance. Plenty of sweetness from the sherry casks, malty tones, roasted nuts and a light smoke. The 46% gives the whisky weight without making it sharp.

    Finish

Long and lingering with lavish sweetness, light smoke and plenty of complexity.

Glenfarclas carries age statements right up to forty years in the permanent range. Very few family-owned distilleries can offer a continuous ladder from ten to forty years, because it requires several generations to have left the casks alone.

  • Ileach Peaty Single Islay Malt Whisky from The Vintage Malt Whisky Company
    Item no.: 22227865464-94

"Ileach" simply means "a person from Islay" in Gaelic, and the name is the whole point: a whisky that isn't meant to represent one particular distillery, but the character of the island itself. Behind it stands a distillery kept deliberately secret, while the peat does all the talking.

    The expert's description

Ileach Peaty Single Islay Malt Whisky is a Single Islay Malt Whisky from an unnamed distillery, matured in oak casks and bottled at 40%.

The whisky is bottled by The Vintage Malt Whisky Company, an independent bottler founded in 1992 by Brian Crook, who is also behind brands such as Finlaggan and Islay Storm. Which distillery supplies the spirit for Ileach has never been officially confirmed, giving rise to countless guesses among whisky enthusiasts over the years, but without an age statement or a named source, the bottle lives entirely on its own flavour.

The style is classic Islay: robust, peaty and maritime, without sacrificing a certain softness that makes it an easy whisky to return to as an everyday dram.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Smoke, ash and a light medicinal note meet sea salt and seaweed, with a touch of soft vanilla in the background.

    Palate

Oily and robust, with peat, brine and a hint of citrus that cuts through the heavy smoke.

    Finish

Medium length, dry and lightly spiced, with a persistent ashy sensation reminiscent of a beach fire just put out.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1229

Ireland's first commercial liqueur was born as a solution to a surplus problem at a whiskey distillery.

    Expert description

Irish Mist Honey Liqueur is an Irish whiskey liqueur, bottled at 35%, based on a blend of Irish whiskey, honey and natural aromatic spices. The liqueur is considered the first commercial liqueur produced in Ireland, with commercial production beginning in 1947 in Tullamore, County Offaly. The recipe originated as an idea from Desmond Williams, grandson of the founder of the Tullamore Dew whiskey company, as a way to economically use up the company's surplus whiskey stock. The recipe draws on an ancient tradition of heather wine dating back over 1,000 years. The company was renamed the Irish Mist Liqueur Company in 1953, and distilling in Tullamore ceased the following year. The brand has since changed hands several times, from Cantrell & Cochrane in 1985, to William Grant & Sons in 2010 alongside Tullamore D.E.W. and Carolans, and most recently to Heaven Hill in 2017.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose offers honey, whiskey and a hint of spice.

    Expert description

Jack Daniel's Fire starts from Jack Daniel's classic Tennessee Whiskey and adds natural cinnamon flavour on top. Jack Daniel's Distillery was founded in 1866 by Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and is officially registered as America's first distillery. All production still happens on the same site, where the whiskey is filtered drop by drop through nearly 3 metres of sugar maple charcoal before going into new, charred oak barrels — the Lincoln County Process that defines Tennessee Whiskey.

The result is a sweeter, more approachable take on the brand's style, meant to be enjoyed on the rocks or in cocktails rather than neat like the core range.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is led by cinnamon, vanilla and caramel from the underlying whiskey.

    Palate

The palate is sweet and light, with clear cinnamon character over Jack Daniel's characteristic round smoothness.

It's called Double Mellowed for a reason — this expression goes through the charcoal filtering twice instead of once.

    Expert description

Gentleman Jack is a Tennessee Whiskey filtered through sugar maple charcoal both before and after it rests in the barrel — an extra round compared to Old No. 7, giving it the name 'Double Mellowed'.

The extra filtering gives a noticeably softer, rounder profile than the core range, with fewer sharp edges from the grain and the barrel.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is soft and round, with vanilla, caramel and a hint of fresh fruit.

    Palate

The palate is unusually smooth for a Tennessee Whiskey, with sweetness, vanilla and a touch of spice without bitterness.

    Finish

The finish is short and soft, without the sharpness sometimes found in younger American whiskeys.

Old No. 7 is the starting point, but honey is the detail that makes this edition something entirely its own.

    Ekspertens beskrivelse

Jack Daniel's Honey is a Tennessee Whiskey-based honey liqueur built on Jack Daniel's classic Old No. 7, with natural honey flavour added, bottled at 35% ABV.

Jack Daniel's Distillery was founded in 1866 by Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and is officially registered as the USA's first distillery. All production still takes place at the same site, where the whiskey is filtered drop by drop through almost 3 metres of sugar maple charcoal before going into new, charred oak barrels - the so-called Lincoln County Process that defines Tennessee Whiskey. For the Honey edition, a natural honey flavour is then added, making the style sweeter and more accessible than the core range's Old No. 7.

    Smag

The nose is marked by honey, vanilla and caramel from the underlying whiskey. The taste is sweet and light, with a distinct honey character on top of Jack Daniel's characteristic round softness, while the finish is short and sweet, without the spicy edge found in the pure Old No. 7.

Like its stout sibling, Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition is born from the collaboration between Jameson and Cork's Franciscan Well Brewery – this time using casks from a hoppy IPA.

    Expert Review

Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition Blended Irish Whiskey is a Triple Distilled Irish Whiskey, bottled at 40%.

The whiskey is matured in casks that previously held an Irish IPA beer. The collaboration between Jameson's master distiller and the brewmaster from Cork's Franciscan Well Brewery, which began with the stout edition, has here been extended to include IPA as well. Jameson Caskmates retains the softness of the triple-distilled Jameson Original, but here gains a fresher, more hop-forward and citrus-driven character from the IPA casks.

    Item no.: 22227865451-362

Bourbon as the base, apple as the point — a lighter, sweeter take on Jim Beam for anyone not drinking it neat.

    Expert description

Jim Beam Apple is a bourbon-based liqueur, where Jim Beam Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey is infused with natural apple flavour. Bottled at 32.5%. The Jim Beam distillery in Clermont, Kentucky, dates back to 1795, when Jacob Beam sold his first barrel of bourbon under the name "Old Jake Beam". The family has made bourbon in Kentucky for over 200 years and seven generations, and the brand took its current name in 1943 in honour of James Beauregard "Jim" Beam, who rebuilt the distillery in 120 days after Prohibition ended.

It's meant to be enjoyed on the rocks or in cocktails rather than neat like a regular bourbon.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is led by apple, caramel and vanilla from the bourbon base.

    Palate

The palate is sweet with clear apple character over the bourbon's caramel and vanilla.

  • Jim Beam Black Extra Aged Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey 70 cl 43%
    Item no.: 22227865451-20019

Blacker label, longer ageing — the Black expression is Jim Beam's answer for anyone wanting a bit more depth than White Label.

    Expert description

Jim Beam Black Extra Aged is a Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey aged longer than the core White Label, giving it more colour and depth. Bottled at 43%. The recipe is built on the Beam family's traditional mash of corn, rye and malted barley, a blend the family says has stayed largely unchanged across all seven generations.

The extra ageing time draws more character from the charred oak barrels, giving a darker, more complex profile.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is deeper than White Label, with caramel, dark vanilla and toasted oak.

    Palate

The palate is full-bodied with caramel, spiced oak and a touch of dark fruit.

    Finish

The finish is medium to long, warm with lingering oak spice.

Before Prohibition, rye was just as common as corn in American whiskey — this expression brings that recipe back.

    Expert description

Pre-Prohibition Rye is a rye whiskey referencing the style from before American Prohibition (1920-1933), when rye-based whiskeys were far more common than today. Bottled at 40%.

  • Small miniature bottle of Kilchoman Machir Bay Islay Single Malt Whisky
    Item no.: 22227865411-50-20 cl

Not everyone needs a full bottle to meet Kilchoman for the first time. This 20cl edition of Machir Bay is the perfect size to get acquainted with Islay's freshest peated whisky, without committing to a full 70cl bottle.

    Expert's description

Kilchoman Machir Bay 20cl is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 46 %.

The whisky is exactly the same as in the full 70cl bottle — a blend of 3, 4 and 5 year old bourbon casks, where the 4 year old casks receive a finishing period of around eight weeks in sherry casks. The smaller bottle makes it ideal as an introduction, a travel format, or a small, natural gift idea.

Machir Bay best represents Kilchoman's style: fresh, citrus-tinged peat smoke carried on Islay's coastal air, combined with sweetness and spice from the sherry casks — all in a size that's easy to carry.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh citrus and sea breeze meet light peat smoke, vanilla and tropical fruit.

    Palate

Creamy and balanced, with honeyed sweetness, citrus and butterscotch, spiced by undertones from the sherry casks.

    Finish

Peat and grain sound like an unlikely pairing, but at Loch Lomond that kind of experiment is business as usual. Peated Single Grain is proof that smoke and lightness can happily share the same bottle.

    Expert's Description

Loch Lomond Peated Single Grain is a Highland Single Grain Scotch Whisky matured in American oak and bottled at 46%.

The whisky is distilled from peated malted barley on the distillery's continuous Coffey still, giving it a light, grain-like body combined with an earthy, medicinal smoke. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Clove, vanilla and blackcurrant, with peat leaning towards bandages and a touch of iodine, alongside fresh lemons and pears.

    Palate

Sweet, tangy peat with green apple, lime citrus and aniseed, followed by vanilla and a note of lemongrass.

    Finish

Crisp, dry finish with distant peat smoke and a short but clear peaty impression.
