    Item no.: 22227865486-2021-09-0051

Old No. 7 is the starting point, but apple is the detail that makes this expression its own thing entirely.

    Expert description

Jack Daniel's Tennessee Apple starts from Jack Daniel's classic Tennessee Whiskey and adds natural apple flavour on top. Jack Daniel's Distillery was founded in 1866 by Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and is officially registered as America's first distillery. All production still happens on the same site, where the whiskey is filtered drop by drop through nearly 3 metres of sugar maple charcoal before going into new, charred oak barrels — the Lincoln County Process that defines Tennessee Whiskey.

The result is a sweeter, more approachable take on the brand's style, meant to be enjoyed on the rocks or in cocktails rather than neat like the core range.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is led by apple, vanilla and caramel from the underlying whiskey.

    Palate

The palate is sweet and light, with clear apple character over Jack Daniel's characteristic round smoothness.

    Finish

The finish is short and sweet, without the spicy sharpness found in the straight Old No. 7.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197278411

Naked Malt stripped the name The Naked Grouse of its bird and kept only what the whisky was really about: two of Scotland's best-known single malts, sherry-matured and blended together.

    Expert's Description

Naked Malt is a Blended Malt Whisky matured in sherry casks, combining Macallan and Highland Park, bottled at 40%.

The whisky draws its balance from the two celebrated single malts, creating a rich and intense flavour with clear hints of sherry, caramel and ripe berries – an accessible introduction to the sherry style for newcomers and enthusiasts alike.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The aroma opens with toasted nuts and orange marmalade, while dark chocolate lingers in the background.

    Palate

The palate delivers muscovado sugar and brown sugar, with a hint of spiced oak.

  • Flatnöse Blended Scotch Whisky bottle from Islay Boys
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197278351

The islands along the west coast of Scotland were governed from the sea, not from land. That is the world the Flatnöse name points back to, and the whisky has been given the same direct character to carry.

    The expert description

Flatnöse Blended Scotch Whisky is a lightly peated blend bottled at 43% in small batch.

Where the Islay Boys blended malt sticks to pure malt whisky, this release is a proper blend with both malt and grain. The grain gives softness and a cereal sweetness that malt alone does not deliver, and the smoke therefore has a rounder base to stand on.

The name is taken from Ketill Flatnöse, the Norse chieftain who in the late 800s was king over the islands along the west coast. Bottling happens in small batch and without chill filtration, so the contents can vary a little from run to run.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Malt and sweetness first, with an appealing note of smoke settling in underneath.

    Palate

Pleasingly smoky, where pepper steps clearly forward alongside the smoke. The cereal sweetness sits below and holds it together.

    Finish

Medium and dry with smoke, pepper and a final malty sweetness.

    Did you know?

Very few blends are bottled without chill filtration. The process removes the compounds that can turn whisky hazy at low temperature, and it is used on almost every bottle at this level because haze gets mistaken for a fault. Islay Boys chose to skip it and explain why instead.

    Item no.: 22227865397-2021-06-0061

Peat and grain sound like an unlikely pairing, but at Loch Lomond that kind of experiment is business as usual. Peated Single Grain is proof that smoke and lightness can happily share the same bottle.

    Expert's Description

Loch Lomond Peated Single Grain is a Highland Single Grain Scotch Whisky matured in American oak and bottled at 46%.

The whisky is distilled from peated malted barley on the distillery's continuous Coffey still, giving it a light, grain-like body combined with an earthy, medicinal smoke. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Clove, vanilla and blackcurrant, with peat leaning towards bandages and a touch of iodine, alongside fresh lemons and pears.

    Palate

Sweet, tangy peat with green apple, lime citrus and aniseed, followed by vanilla and a note of lemongrass.

    Finish

Crisp, dry finish with distant peat smoke and a short but clear peaty impression.

    Expert description

Annandale Rascally New Make Malt Spirit is the distillery's unaged new make spirit in a 50 cl bottle, bottled at 46%. 'Rascally Liquor' is the name of Annandale's new make spirit, named after a quote by the Scottish poet Robert Burns, who described whisky as exactly that — 'rascally liquor'. It was first launched on Burns Night in 2015. Annandale Distillery was founded in 1836 as one of Scotland's first legal distilleries, but closed in 1918 while owned by none other than Johnnie Walker. The distillery lay derelict for nearly a century, until Professor David Thomson and Teresa Church read about it in the book 'Scotch Missed: Lost Distilleries of Scotland', tracked down the ruined building, bought the site in 2007 and reopened the distillery in 2014 after extensive restoration. The distillery produces two main expressions: the unpeated Man O'Words and the peated Man O'Sword, continuing the distillery's historic tradition of smoky whisky.

Blue Label arrived in 1999 and quickly picked up a nickname among the distillery staff: bottle of the month, the one that came with the pay slip. It is rarely a bad recommendation when the people who make the whisky take it home themselves.

    The expert's description

Dew of Ben Nevis Blue Label is a Blended Scotch Whisky matured in oak casks and bottled at 40 %.

Dew of Ben Nevis is the blend range of the distillery, with Blue Label sitting as the lightest and sweetest expression. It differs from Special Reserve and Supreme Selection by aiming at accessibility rather than weight, and it was introduced in 1999.

The blend combines malt whisky from Ben Nevis with grain whisky, and the distillery in Fort William handles both production and composition. It is not common for a single distillery to blend and bottle its own blend under its own name as well.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Light and sweet with vanilla, pale cereal and a touch of honey.

    Palate

Soft and simple with caramel and malt. The sweetness dominates and there are no sharp edges along the way.

Before the cask. Before the maturation. Thornæs Åro is the pure distillate – what will become whisky when it meets oak. A 20 cl new make at 58% from North Zealand for those who want to understand the starting point.

    Expert description

Thornæs Åro is a Danish Single Malt Raw Spirit bottled at 58% from Thornæs Distillery in North Zealand. It is an unaged new make – the distillate in its purest form before cask maturation. Raw spirit as a category is interesting to taste because it gives a clear picture of what the organic North Zealand malt distillate is made of: grain, water and fermentation. No cask has yet left its mark. The bottle comes in 20 cl – a good format for tasting and for the curious whisky drinker who wants to learn Thornæs from the ground up. The name Åro likely refers to a part of Thornæs Distillery's identity or terroir in North Zealand.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and grainy – the organic malt is clear. Sweetish grain notes, perhaps a touch of peach, and a purity that only belongs to unaged new make spirit.

    Palate

58% gives warmth and intensity. Grain and yeast are central – a clear and precise flavour without cask influence. Interesting to taste if you are used to aged whisky, as the contrast is significant.

    Finish

Warm and clear with the organic grain's clean imprint. No cask character, no maturation influence.

    Expert's description

Kilchoman Machir Bay 20cl is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 46 %.

The whisky is exactly the same as in the full 70cl bottle — a blend of 3, 4 and 5 year old bourbon casks, where the 4 year old casks receive a finishing period of around eight weeks in sherry casks. The smaller bottle makes it ideal as an introduction, a travel format, or a small, natural gift idea.

Named after a warehouse district in Leith, where one of Scotland's earliest whisky-blending ventures began.

    Expert description

Crabbie's Yardhead Single Malt Whisky is a young Scotch Single Malt Whisky, bottled at 40%, designed for mixing into cocktails. Crabbie traces its roots to Edinburgh in 1801, when Miller Crabbie founded a merchant business later passed to his son John Crabbie. John Crabbie is regarded as an early pioneer of whisky blending, personally selecting whiskies for blending and bottling from across Scotland. 'Yardhead' is named after the area of Leith where Crabbie's original maturation warehouses stood in the 1820s. The brand disappeared in the early 20th century but was revived in 2017 under Halewood Wine & Spirits with a new range of limited edition single malts from the Highlands and Islands.

    Item no.: 22227865386-1500

A softer entry point into Wild Turkey's powerful Lawrenceburg heritage.

    Expert description

Wild Turkey Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a milder version of the brand's core expression, bottled at 40.5%. Wild Turkey's story begins with the Irish immigrant Ripy family, who settled in Kentucky in the 1800s, with Thomas Ripy founding the first version of the distillery in 1869 on Wild Turkey Hill in Lawrenceburg. The name comes from an annual hunting trip, where a distillery executive shared his bourbon with friends who were out hunting wild turkeys. Jimmy Russell started working at the distillery in 1954 and was named the distillery's third master distiller in 1967 — a role he still holds over 70 years later, making him the world's longest-tenured active master distiller. He is known as the creator of the recipe behind Wild Turkey 101, the brand's core product.

  • Jim Beam Black Extra Aged Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey 70 cl 43%
    Item no.: 22227865451-20019

Blacker label, longer ageing — the Black expression is Jim Beam's answer for anyone wanting a bit more depth than White Label.

    Expert description

Jim Beam Black Extra Aged is a Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey aged longer than the core White Label, giving it more colour and depth. Bottled at 43%. The Jim Beam distillery in Clermont, Kentucky, dates back to 1795, when Jacob Beam sold his first barrel of bourbon under the name "Old Jake Beam". The family has made bourbon in Kentucky for over 200 years and seven generations, and the brand took its current name in 1943 in honour of James Beauregard "Jim" Beam, who rebuilt the distillery in 120 days after Prohibition ended. The recipe is built on the Beam family's traditional mash of corn, rye and malted barley, a blend the family says has stayed largely unchanged across all seven generations.

The extra ageing time draws more character from the charred oak barrels, giving a darker, more complex profile.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is deeper than White Label, with caramel, dark vanilla and toasted oak.

    Palate

The palate is full-bodied with caramel, spiced oak and a touch of dark fruit.

Like its stout sibling, Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition is born from the collaboration between Jameson and Cork's Franciscan Well Brewery – this time using casks from a hoppy IPA.

    Expert Review

Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition Blended Irish Whiskey is a Triple Distilled Irish Whiskey, bottled at 40%.

The whiskey is matured in casks that previously held an Irish IPA beer. The collaboration between Jameson's master distiller and the brewmaster from Cork's Franciscan Well Brewery, which began with the stout edition, has here been extended to include IPA as well. Jameson Caskmates retains the softness of the triple-distilled Jameson Original, but here gains a fresher, more hop-forward and citrus-driven character from the IPA casks.

Jameson Caskmates was born from an unexpected meeting between a whiskey distiller and a brewmaster – the result is a whiskey with notes of cocoa, coffee and hops.

    Expert Review

Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition Blended Irish Whiskey is a Triple Distilled Irish Whiskey, bottled at 40%.

In 2013, Jameson's master distiller met the brewmaster from Cork's Franciscan Well Brewery. They decided to send a few Jameson casks to the brewery to see how they might influence their handcrafted Irish stout. Once the beer had been tapped, the casks were sent back to the Jameson distillery with their new stout character, and the whiskey was filled in once more. Jameson Caskmates retains the softness of the triple-distilled Jameson Original, but adds notes of cocoa, coffee, cream caramel and a gentle touch of hops.

  • Bell's Original Blended Scotch Whisky bottle with bell logo
    Item no.: 22227865397-245-

There is whisky you read about and whisky you drink. This belongs to the second kind. It has no ambition of ending up in a collection, and that is exactly why it has stayed on the shelf for close to two hundred years.

    The expert's description

Bell's Original is a Blended Scotch Whisky matured in oak casks and bottled at 40 %.

The story starts in Perth in 1825, where Thomas Sandeman opened a spirits business. Arthur Bell joined in 1851 and made blending the heart of the trade, and his name is still on the bottle. Through the 1970s and 1980s Bell's was the best selling blend in Britain.

The backbone of the blend is Blair Athol in Pitlochry, which the house took over in 1933. Malt from a number of other distilleries joins it along with grain whisky, and the result is deliberately kept light and approachable rather than complex.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh and light with green apple, cereal and a suggestion of vanilla. A dry malt note sits behind.

  • Drambuie whisky liqueur bottle with Scottish heather honey and Isle of Skye malt
    Item no.: 22227865397-299

A recipe said to have travelled with a prince in flight, an inn on Skye and a Gaelic phrase about a dram that satisfies. Drambuie has had almost three hundred years to embroider its own story, and it has used them well.

    The expert description

Drambuie is a Scotch Whisky Liqueur built on malt whisky from the Isle of Skye, sweetened with heather honey and seasoned with herbs and spices, bottled at 40%.

The story starts in July 1746. Prince Charles Edward Stuart was in flight after the defeat at Culloden, and on his way to the Isle of Skye he was helped by John MacKinnon of Clan MacKinnon. In return, the prince is said to have handed MacKinnon the recipe for his personal liqueur. By 1873 it could be had at The Broadford Hotel on Skye, where guests called it an dram buidheach, the dram that satisfies. The Ross family registered the name as a trademark twenty years later, and The Drambuie Liqueur Company was founded in 1914.

In 1916 Drambuie became the first liqueur admitted to the House of Lords, and it reached Buckingham Palace the following year. Prohibition in the United States and the Second World War came close to killing the brand off, but it survived. Drambuie is owned today by William Grant & Sons.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Orange peel and honey first, then aniseed, saffron and a dry herbal edge that keeps the sweetness in check.

    Palate

Oily and full. Honey, toffee and citrus settle first, then the malt whisky pushes through with spice and a clean acidity that lifts the whole thing.

    Finish

Warm and long with nutmeg, clove and a final bitter orange note.

Double Cask is part of Tamnavulin's core range and represents the distillery's contemporary, approachable style, prioritising softness over complexity. Ireland's first commercial liqueur was born as a solution to a surplus problem at a whiskey distillery.

    Expert description

Irish Mist Honey Liqueur is an Irish whiskey liqueur, bottled at 35%, based on a blend of Irish whiskey, honey and natural aromatic spices. The liqueur is considered the first commercial liqueur produced in Ireland, with commercial production beginning in 1947 in Tullamore, County Offaly. The recipe originated as an idea from Desmond Williams, grandson of the founder of the Tullamore Dew whiskey company, as a way to economically use up the company's surplus whiskey stock. The recipe draws on an ancient tradition of heather wine dating back over 1,000 years. The company was renamed the Irish Mist Liqueur Company in 1953, and distilling in Tullamore ceased the following year. The brand has since changed hands several times, from Cantrell & Cochrane in 1985, to William Grant & Sons in 2010 alongside Tullamore D.E.W. and Carolans, and most recently to Heaven Hill in 2017.
