  • Bottle of Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2012 from eight Islay farms
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280403

Eight farms, one island, one whisky. Islay Barley 2012 brings together grain from across the west and centre of Islay in a single unpeated malt, letting eight years give the grain's own character room to unfold.

    Expert description

Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2012 is an Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, matured for 8 years and bottled at 50%.

The barley comes from eight different farms across the west and centre of Islay, combined into a single unpeated release. The whisky is matured in a combination of American whiskey casks and French wine casks, together giving a full yet still fresh character.

Distilled in 2012 and matured for eight years, it shows how Bruichladdich lets barley from several farms meet in the same bottle without losing its local, earthy identity.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Fresh barley and apple juice, with a sweet vanilla note from the bourbon casks and a hint of grape from the wine casks.

    Palate

Round and full-bodied with honey, toasted malt and a light tart fruitiness that keeps the palate lively.

    Finish

Medium length with soft grain, honey and a light winey finish.

    Item no.: 22227865395-20005 - 0622-61

Smoke and raw power. Isle of Fionia Peated Black is not for the cautious. A young organic peated Danish Single Malt Whisky at 61% that shows what medium peated malt can do when you don't hide it behind years and years in cask.

    Expert description

Isle of Fionia Peated Black is an organic peated Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 61% from Isle of Fionia / Nyborg Distillery in Nyborg, Funen. Made from medium peated organic malt, delivering a pleasant but distinct smoky character. The whisky was first matured on used Jack Daniels bourbon casks and then partially finished on STR white oak wine casks. STR treatment – Shaved, Toasted and Re-charred – opens the cask back up, adding extra sweetness and fruity complexity. Bottled at 61% without dilution.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Clear and expressive smoke from the peated malt kernels, combined with fruity sweetness from the bourbon cask and a light winey note from the STR finish. An explosive and direct nose.

    Palate

Powerful smoke that stays clear and clean at 61%. A fruitiness walks hand in hand with the smoke – this is not the typical Islay iodine style but a cleaner, more malt-based smoke. The warm strength amplifies both smoke and spice.

    Finish

Long and persistent with smoke as the dominant note. A light fruity sweetness from the casks settles in as a gentle contrast in the long close.

    Did you know?

STR casks – Shaved, Toasted and Re-charred – are a technique that gives used wine casks a new lease of life. The surface is shaved, toasted and re-charred so the cask can contribute fresh flavours again. It is a clever method for extracting complexity from casks that would otherwise have exhausted their potential.

    Item no.: 22227865395-20005 - 0622

Denmark is not the first country that comes to mind when the talk turns to peated single malt. But Isle of Fionia Peated is here to change that – medium-peated organic malt, Bourbon casks from Tennessee and a touch of white oak. Something entirely its own.

    Expert description

Isle of Fionia Peated is an organic Peated Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 48%. Distilled at Isle of Fionia / Nyborg Distillery in the historic DSB train depot in Nyborg, Funen, the whisky is made from medium-peated organic malt that gives a noticeable but not overwhelming smoke character. Cask-wise, it has primarily rested in Jack Daniels Bourbon casks with a partial finish in STR white oak casks – Shaved, Toasted and Re-charred. A young, characterful whisky with smoke up front and Bourbon sweetness as its counterpart. EAN: 5712631000216.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Clear and inviting with light medicinal smoke – less Islay, more coastal Danish. Behind it: vanilla and caramel from the Jack Daniels casks and a fresh nose of organic malt.

    Palate

Young smoke upfront with good body for its age. The Bourbon cask sweetness pushes through – vanilla caramel and dark wood – while the smoke holds its ground. The STR casks give a woody, spiced finish.

    Finish

Medium to long with a lingering smoke note and warm oak bitterness at the base.

Unlike many Scottish peated whiskies that use peat from specific Scottish bogs, Isle of Fionia peats their malt with Danish or European peat. This gives a slightly different smoke character – more earthy and less medicinal than a classic Islay.

  • Ardnamurchan AD bottle, Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Ardnamurchan distillery
    Item no.: 222255544785-887

The batch number is gone. It sounds like a detail, but it is a statement: the distillery now considers the whisky consistent enough from one run to the next that you no longer need to keep track of which one you have.

    The Expert's Description

Ardnamurchan AD/ is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky composed of 65% ex-bourbon casks and 35% sherry casks and bottled at 46.8%. It is the first release without a batch number, marking the shift from numbered one-off releases to a permanent core expression.

The malt is split evenly between peated and unpeated. That is the distillery’s founding move: rather than keeping the two styles apart they bring them together, so the smoke becomes a floor rather than the main event. The split between bourbon and sherry gives vanilla, bright fruit and darker sherry fruit alike.

The whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured, the carton is 100% recycled board, and every bottle carries a QR code giving access to blockchain-registered production data.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh malt and bright fruit first, pear and apple from the bourbon casks. Then raisins and orange peel from the sherry portion, and beneath it all a dry peat smoke, clear without dominating.

    Palate

Soft and well balanced. Vanilla, honey and baked fruit open, then the sherry’s darker fruit and a lightly spiced warmth arrive. The smoke gathers it up towards the close. At 46.8% the body is good without weight.

    Finish

Medium length. Malt, dark fruit and a dry smoky edge that lets go cleanly.

    Did You Know?

Dropping the batch number is a vote of confidence in your own craft. As long as a distillery numbers its releases, it is implicitly saying every run tastes different. When the number disappears, the message is that the same expression can now be hit again and again, and that is harder than it sounds when the casks are never identical.

KORNMOD. It is about the grain – not just as a raw material, but as identity. Thy Whisky No 18 KORNMOD is made from a special and ancient Danish grain modification that carries far more character than modern malting barley.

    Expert description

Thy Whisky No 18 KORNMOD is a Danish Single Malt Whisky bottled at 47.3% in a 70 cl bottle. Distilled and matured at Thy Whisky Distillery in Thy. KORNMOD refers to the use of a traditional Danish grain modification – a historic barley variety with roots in Nordic agricultural tradition. The distillery are pioneers in bringing these rare grain varieties back into whisky production and exploring what they contribute to the flavour profile.

47.3% is an approachable strength for a single malt with a complex starting point. KORNMOD speaks to the enthusiast and the historically interested whisky lover – a bottle that tastes different because the grain is different.

    Tasting notes

  • Glen Moray Curiosity Rye Cask Finish bottle with pale amber whisky
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280374

Rye casks are not something you run into in Speyside. Bourbon yes, sherry yes, port maybe — but casks that have held American rye whiskey remain a rarity. Glen Moray brought some over from Kentucky and let spirit from 2016 finish in them.

    The expert's description

Glen Moray Elgin Curiosity Rye Cask Finish is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky finished in Kentucky rye whiskey casks and bottled at 46.3%.

The spirit dates from 2016 and had its final maturation in casks that previously held American rye whiskey. Rye behaves differently from corn: where bourbon casks lay vanilla and coconut into the whisky, rye casks bring pepper, cinnamon and a drier spice note. The outturn is 1,637 bottles, and the whisky is neither chill filtered nor coloured.

Curiosity is the range where Glen Moray tests limits rather than repeats itself. The distillery has run cask trials as a standing part of the work for years, and the Curiosity releases have included casks from Chenin Blanc wine and rhum agricole. The rye casks here belong to the more successful end of those experiments.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Soft vanilla met by fresh lemon peel and a clear peppery note. The rye registers immediately — there is something sharp and dry sitting on top of the soft Speyside base.

    Palate

Caramel and oak first, then forest fruit and a peppery middle. The rye character gives the whisky an edge it would not otherwise have had, and the citrus note keeps things fresh.

    Finish

Medium and spiced. Pepper and cinnamon drying out slowly, with a final hint of caramel.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280358

The brand's flagship — 9 years of maturation and full strength, just as Booker Noe intended.

    Expert description

Knob Creek 9 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the brand's core expression, aged 9 years, bottled at 50%. Knob Creek was created in 1992 by Booker Noe, grandson of Jim Beam, as part of the Jim Beam Small Batch Bourbon Collection. Noe drew inspiration from the Bottled-in-Bond Act to create a whiskey representing the full flavour and quality of the pre-Prohibition era. The brand name was actually used as early as 1898, but was revived by the Beam family after acquiring National Distillers in 1987. Knob Creek helped revive interest in full-proof bourbon at a time when many other brands were lowering their alcohol content.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

The nose is full with caramel, vanilla and spiced oak.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280323

Strictly Limited is where Càrn Mòr puts the young casks. No age statement to hide behind, no heavy sherry coat — just the spirit and a European oak cask.

    Expert description

Craigellachie 2013/2022 Càrn Mòr 8 years is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in European oak and bottled at 47.5% without chill filtration and without added colouring.

The release gave 1,173 bottles and belongs to Càrn Mòr Strictly Limited from Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, run by brothers Brian and Jamie Morrison. The range consists of small cask marriages bottled at a fixed strength, and past releases have included Ardmore, Bunnahabhain, Mortlach and Caol Ila. European oak gives more spice and tannin than American, and on Craigellachie's meaty spirit the result is distinctly spiced.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Caramel and baked fruit first, then cinnamon, dried herbs and a trace of smoke from the distillation.

    Palate

Full and spiced. Caramel, malt and dark fruit, with tannin from the European oak and the mineral edge from the worm tubs. The texture is oily despite the young age.

    Finish

Medium and dry, with spice, oak and a lightly smoked warmth at the end.

  • White Heather 15 Year Old – GlenAllachie's Blended Scotch
    Item no.: 22227865438-879219

White Heather traces its roots back to the 1950s, but it is only under Billy Walker and GlenAllachie that the brand has truly come into its own. This 15 year old blended scotch brings together malt and grain whisky from the Highlands, Speyside and Islay under one roof – then matures it all further in GlenAllachie's own cellars.

    Expert's description

White Heather 15 Year Old is a Blended Scotch Whisky at 46% ABV, composed of malt and grain whisky from distilleries across the Highlands, Speyside and Islay, including GlenAllachie's own stocks, and further matured at GlenAllachie in a combination of American oak and sherry casks.

The brand was originally created by Campbell Distillers in the 1950s but lay dormant for decades until Billy Walker and the GlenAllachie Distillers Company revived it in 2017 and relaunched it in 2021. Today, White Heather is a standalone blended brand drawing on the same cask philosophy that has made GlenAllachie's single malts well known.

What sets this 15 year old apart from many other blends is the secondary maturation in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso puncheons alongside Appalachian virgin oak – a combination that gives the whisky far more depth than the blended scotch category usually offers.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Soft and inviting, with honey, ripe apples and a hint of sherry sweetness hinting at the active casks used in maturation.

    Palate

Round and gently spiced, with caramel, walnuts and a delicate fruitiness from the sherry and PX puncheons.

    Finish

Gentle and medium in length, with a dry, faintly oaky close from the American oak maturation.

    Flavor Profile

Honey · Sherry sweetness · Caramel · Ripe apples · Gently spiced

    Item no.: 22227865438-879212

Old Malt Cask is the range where Hunter Laing always lands on 50%. Not because the number is magic, but because it leaves the cask room to speak without the strength taking over. Here it is a refill hogshead filled in October 2008.

    The expert's description

Glen Garioch 2008/2022 Old Malt Cask 13 Year Old is a Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky matured in a refill hogshead and bottled at 50%.

The cask was filled in October 2008 and emptied in February 2022 after 13 years. A refill hogshead gives less wood than a 1st fill cask, and that is exactly why the dry, cereal-driven core of the Glen Garioch spirit stands out so clearly here. The bottling produced 352 bottles, non-chill filtered and with no added colour.

Hunter Laing runs Old Malt Cask as the workhorse of its ranges. The company was carved out of Douglas Laing in 2013 when the brothers split the portfolio, and Stewart Laing took Old Malt Cask across to the new firm. Since then they have built Ardnahoe distillery on Islay.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dry apple fritters, malt and a hint of heather honey. Over the fruit sits a dusty, almost papery note you often meet in Glen Garioch from used casks.

    Palate

Cereal and firm. Green apples, pear and pale caramel, with a peppery edge from the 50%. Not sweet, more taut and malt-driven.

    Finish

Medium and dry. Malt, a little baked apple and a peppery warmth that lingers on the palate.

When brothers Fred and Stewart Laing divided Douglas Laing between them in 2013, Old Malt Cask followed Stewart into Hunter Laing. The range carried on largely unchanged — the same fixed bottling strength, a new owner's name on the label.

  • Ben Nevis 1996 Wilson & Morgan 25 years Highland Single Malt Whisky
    Item no.: 22227865369-317 - 0522

Twenty-five years in cask, the final thirty months of them in Oloroso. That is a long time to let a whisky work, and longer still to wait and find out whether the decision was right. The Italians at Wilson & Morgan have a habit of getting it right.

    The expert's description

Ben Nevis 1996/2021 Wilson & Morgan 25 years is a Highland Single Malt Whisky matured in casks no. 1819 and 1820, finished in Oloroso sherry casks for 30 months and bottled at 52.1 %.

Wilson & Morgan is an Italian whisky house, run by the Rossi family from Treviso since 1992. The house is known for buying casks early, letting them lie long and finishing them in carefully chosen sherry wood, and that method suits Ben Nevis well, since its spirit carries the weight needed to take the treatment.

The whisky was distilled in 1996 and bottled in 2021 from two casks kept together throughout. The thirty months in Oloroso are not a short finish but a genuine second maturation, and it reads clearly in the dark fruit and the spice.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dark fruit, walnut and orange peel, with a waxy undertone from the spirit and a hint of leather.

    Palate

Powerful and dense with fig, raisin and bitter chocolate. The sherry takes up room, but the Ben Nevis weight holds back and lets the spice come through.

    Finish

Very long and dry with dark fruit, tobacco and a warm spiced close.

    Investment potential

High. Twenty-five year old Ben Nevis bottlings are scarce, because most of the 1990s spirit went into blends, and Wilson & Morgan releases from that decade are sought after by collectors of Italian bottlings.

    Did you know?

Italy was the largest single malt market in Europe through the 1970s and 1980s, long before the British discovered the category themselves. It is one reason several of the finest old casks today carry Italian names on the label.

Port Dundas closed as a distillery in 2011, making all future bottlings a closed, dwindling stock. Combined with 25 years of maturation, this makes the release interesting for grain whisky collectors.

    Did You Know?

Port Dundas Distillery in Glasgow was once one of Scotland's largest grain distilleries, but closed permanently in 2011 – all future whisky from the site therefore comes from casks already in storage.
