  • Adelphi Private Stock bottle, Blended Scotch Whisky from independent bottler Adelphi
    Item no.: 22227865409-222

Adelphi is known for saying no. Of the casks they get offered, very few are approved to carry the name. Private Stock is the house blend, the place where they show what they can do with an assembly rather than a single cask.

    The Expert's Description

Adelphi Private Stock is a Blended Scotch Whisky bottled at 40% by the independent bottler Adelphi. It is the house's own blend and differs from Adelphi's single cask releases by being assembled to hit a particular style rather than to show one cask's character.

Adelphi was founded in 1826 as a distillery on the Clyde on the edge of Glasgow. It closed in the early twentieth century and the name lay dormant for almost a hundred years. In 1993 it returned as an independent bottler when Jamie Walker, great-grandson of the former owner Archibald Walker, started the firm again. Donald Houston and Keith Falconer took over in 2004 and later built the Ardnamurchan distillery on the Scottish west coast.

Adelphi’s selection is famously strict: only a small fraction of the casks the house tastes make it through. Private Stock is the bottle where that philosophy meets everyday drinking.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Bright and straightforward. Malt, honey and a touch of green apple first, then vanilla and a light cereal sweetness. There is a clean thread running through it all, no sharp edges and no smoke.

    Palate

Soft and malty. Caramel and baked fruit open, then a mild spiced warmth and a light nutty note. At 40% it drinks easily, and the texture is rounder than you might expect from a blend in this style.

    Finish

Short to medium. Malt and honey linger, with a dry cereal note at the close. Clean finish.

    Did You Know?

Adelphi today owns Ardnamurchan Distillery, which sits on the westernmost point of mainland Scotland. The firm went from being a distillery in 1826, to a pure bottler from 1993, to distilling again after 2014. Very few whisky houses have taken that road twice.

    Item no.: 22227865403-0

In the valley between Kyoto and Osaka, where three rivers meet to create some of Japan's softest water, Suntory built the country's first whisky distillery in 1923.

    Expert Description

Yamazaki 10 Year Old is a Single Malt Whisky from Japan, bottled at 40%.

The whisky comes from Yamazaki Distillery, founded by Shinjiro Torii in 1923 as Japan's very first whisky distillery. Maturation takes place across a combination of American white oak, Spanish sherry casks and Japanese mizunara oak, giving Yamazaki its characteristic depth and complexity.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe peach and pineapple meet a delicate sherry sweetness and a touch of mizunara spice.

    Palate

Soft and full-bodied with honey, caramel and a light, dry oak spice.

    Finish

Medium length, warm and gently sweet, with a last note of sandalwood.

  • Glenlivet 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve bottle with golden whisky
    Item no.: 22227865396-33

French oak is rarely The Glenlivet's first choice, but when the distillery reaches for it anyway, the result is worth the 15 year wait.

    Expert Description

Glenlivet 15 Year Old French Oak is a Single Speyside Malt Whisky, matured for 15 years and bottled at 40%.

The whisky belonged to The Glenlivet's former age-statement range, where the 15 year old expression stood out for its use of French oak in maturation, instead of the American oak that otherwise dominates the distillery's range. The French oak lends the whisky a drier, more spiced structure that balances the soft, fruity character The Glenlivet is known for.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Floral and light, with ripe apples and a hint of honey, where the French oak contributes a dry, spiced undertone.

    Palate

Round and balanced with pears and vanilla, where the oak's spice offers a counterpoint to the natural sweetness.

    Finish

Medium length and dry, with a final hint of oak and honey.

    Did You Know?

French oak is used far more often for wine maturation than for whisky, and The Glenlivet's 15 Year Old French Oak is one of the relatively few Scotch single malts to have made this cask type a deliberate stylistic choice.

  • Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
    Item no.: 22227865386-0

The name comes from the old buffalo trail that once crossed the Kentucky River at the distillery's grounds.

    Expert description

Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the distillery's namesake core expression, bottled at 40%. Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, is the oldest continuously operating distillery in the United States. The site was first built as a commercial distillery in 1858 and later taken over by Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr., often called 'the father of the modern bourbon industry'. The distillery continued production through Prohibition under a medicinal licence and has been owned by the family-run Sazerac Company since 1992.

  • Tyrconnell 10 years old Sherry Finish Single Malt Irish Whiskey 46%
    Item no.: 22227865380-0

Master Distiller Noel Sweeney has used his nose to find the precise balance where the sherry cask adds spice without overpowering the underlying single malt.

    Expert Review

Tyrconnell 10 Year Old Sherry Finish is a Single Malt Irish Whiskey matured in American oak and finished in sherry casks, bottled at 46%.

The whiskey matures for nearly ten years in American oak, after which it is finished for its final months in sherry casks. The goal is an elegant rounding-off rather than a heavy sherry character, requiring precision in how long the whiskey is left in the sherry casks. It is non-chill filtered, which preserves more flavour nuances but also means the whiskey can turn slightly hazy when water or ice is added. The bottle is presented in a metal gift tube.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Malt and sherry sweetness, with a touch of dried fruit.

    Palate

Elegant and rounded, with notes of nuts and light spice.

    Finish

    Medium, soft and lightly sherry-driven.
