Tequila

Here you can find different versions of the delicious beverage from Mexico. Mezcal is the general category to which Tequila belongs - just like the Whiskey category, which also has sub-categories such as Bourbon, Rye etc.

Mezcal is made from agave, but there are many different species - up to 28 to 30 different. Below is the Blue Agave (Agave Tequiliana Weber), which is the type to be used for the production of tequila according to the restrictions, the so-called Denomination de Origin.
  • Blanco is a clear / white tequila that is not dish-aged and therefore has strong agave aroma and freshness.
  • Reposado is stored on wooden casks for at least 2 months and up to 12 months. The individual manufacturer therefore chooses himself within the range. Reposado is the preferred type of tequila in Mexico
  • Anejo means old and an anejo is at least stored on wooden casks for 12 months and up to 36 months. These tequilas are softer and rounder, but with less agave aroma.
  • Extra Anejo is, as its name suggests, an anejo, which is extra dish stored, which means that the tequila has been at minimum wooden barrels for 36 months. These tequilas are only available in limited quantities

  • Bottle of Mayaciel Blanco Tequila with copper-toned label
    Item no.: 059763-615-22

The agave at Hacienda de Oro is left standing for up to eight years, well away from artificial fertiliser and pesticides, before it becomes Mayaciel Blanco. This is tequila the way it looked before anyone decided to complicate it.

    Expert Description

Mayaciel Blanco is a 100% agave Mexican Blanco Tequila bottled at 45%.

Blanco means the tequila is bottled straight after distillation with no ageing, so the pure character of the agave stays front and centre. Mayaciel grows its own agave on fields in the Valle de Tequila, where the plants mature for six to eight years without artificial fertiliser. Production uses spring water filtered through volcanic rock and wild airborne yeast to kick off natural fermentation. The result is a tequila handcrafted in small batches at the Hacienda de Oro distillery in the town of Amatitán.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Floral, with a clean, unmistakable agave aroma.

    Palate

Fruity and fresh, with a touch of lime and vanilla plus a light, tingling pepper note, while agave carries all the way through.

    Finish

Long and complex, yet gentle to drink.

    Did You Know?

Did you know the agave used for Mayaciel Blanco is left to mature for up to eight years on the fields in the Valle de Tequila, while agave for mass-produced tequila is often harvested much earlier? That long maturation is a big part of why the agave flavour is so concentrated.

  • Bottle of Mayaciel Reposado Tequila with bronze label and golden colour
    Item no.: 059763-615-23

In Amatitán, in the shadow of the Sierra Madre, this Reposado doesn't rest in the usual bourbon barrels. It's been left to mature in barrels that once crossed the Caribbean full of rum - and the result is a sweetness you rarely find in a tequila.

    Expert Description

Mayaciel Reposado Tequila is a Reposado Tequila matured in Caribbean rum barrels and bottled at 43%.

Behind the bottle stands Hacienda de Oro, the Partida family's distillery in the Valle de Tequila near Amatitán. Don Partida founded the distillery in the 1970s, and his recipes and techniques are still used today by the current master distiller, his descendant David Partida. Mayaciel uses only agaves from its own fields, where the blue Weber agaves mature for six to eight years without artificial fertiliser before they're harvested and cooked into tequila a stone's throw from the distillery.

What sets this Reposado apart from almost every other is the choice of barrel. Mayaciel uses only carefully selected rum barrels from the Caribbean for maturation - not the bourbon barrels the industry has otherwise made close to standard. The barrels are thoroughly prepared before the tequila fills them, and the nearly six months on wood give the spirit a layered aroma where the fresh agave still comes through, now joined by the sweetness of rum.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cooked agave meets a gentle sweetness of vanilla and caramel - soft and inviting from the first breath.

    Palate

Fresh, floral agave mingles with tropical fruit, while the rum's spiced barrel character runs as a quiet undercurrent throughout.

    Finish

Silky and long, without a rough edge - one of the smoothest finishes you'll find in a Reposado.

    Item no.: 059763-615-21

In the Valle de Tequila, on an old estate in the small town of Amatitán, sits Hacienda de Oro. The Partida family has been growing agave and distilling tequila here since the 1970s, and this is where Mayaciel Rosa comes from, a tequila that breaks the rules and finds its colour in red wine barrels.

    Expert Description

Mayaciel Rosa is a 100% agave Mexican Tequila, finished in Malbec red wine barrels and bottled at 44%.

Mayaciel is a small, family-run tequila house that grows its own agave on fields in the Valle de Tequila. The plants are left to mature for six to eight years, entirely without artificial fertiliser, before being harvested and distilled at Hacienda de Oro. With the Rosa expression, Mayaciel has created an entirely new category: the tequila is finished for several weeks in hand-selected Malbec barrels from a winery in the Mexican highlands, which gives it its distinctive reddish colour and aroma of dark berries.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dark berries, lifted by a clean, unmistakable agave aroma.

    Palate

Dark red grape and wild berry notes, a fine tannic structure, a touch of pepper and clear agave underneath.

    Finish

Most blanco tequilas turn the strength up. Mundo does the opposite: it turns the alcohol down and the agave up, resulting in a surprisingly round and easy sipping tequila.

    Expert Description

Mundo Blanco is a Mexican Blanco Tequila distilled from hand-harvested blue agave and bottled at 35%.

Mundo is produced at the La Cofradía distillery in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, a family-run house that has been brewing tequila for over 50 years. The agave for Mundo is harvested in both the highlands and lowlands of Jalisco and makes up around 70% of the spirit, well above the legal minimum of 51% required for standard tequila. That gives it more character than a typical mixto, while still being bottled at an unusually soft 35%. It is a blanco, meaning it is bottled shortly after distillation with no barrel ageing, showing the agave in its purest form.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cooked agave, tropical fruit and a hint of peppery cinnamon.

    Palate

Clean and dry with notes of pear and fresh herbs, carried by the agave's natural sweetness.

    Finish

Short to medium, clean and gently peppery.

    Expert Description

Mundo Reposado Mexico Tequila is a Mexican Reposado Tequila made from 100% agave, bottled at 35%.

The tequila is distilled at La Cofradia (NOM 1137) in the Los Valles region of Jalisco – a family-owned distillery that has produced and bottled tequila for more than 50 years, and which has over time also lent its facilities to several other well-known brands in the industry. The agave is cooked in traditional brick ovens, fermentation happens naturally, and the tequila is then distilled in copper-coil stainless steel stills. The Reposado expression then rests in oak barrels for up to a year, giving it its spiced, lightly vanilla-tinged character.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Peppery agave with a touch of toasted vanilla.

    Palate

Spiced and full-bodied, where the agave's sharpness meets the oak's warm, toasted tones.

  • Bottle of Maexiko Montezuma clear Danish spirit
    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197278471

On a field north of Copenhagen grows something that looks like the recipe for mezcal, minus the agave. Parforce Spirits borrowed the same hands-on approach as the Mexican distilleries and rebuilt it as a purely Danish spirit.

    Expert Description

Maexiko Montezuma is a Danish, agave-free spirit inspired by mezcal, distilled from smoked corn and sea buckthorn and bottled at 43%.

Behind the bottle is the young Danish spirits house Parforce Spirits, based in Skodsborg. Since agave simply can't grow in Denmark, the team went looking for a local stand-in instead, and found it in sea buckthorn, which is botanically related to the agave plant. The smoked corn delivers the same earthy, lightly smoky character you'd recognise from mezcal, while the sea buckthorn adds a tart, berry-like sweetness. The spirit is bottled clear and unaged, much like a mezcal joven.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Light smoke and toasted corn, carried by a tart sea buckthorn aroma.

    Palate

Earthy and lightly smoky, with a fresh, tart sweetness from the sea buckthorn.

    Finish

    Item no.: 22227865479-10167

2,100 metres above sea level, where the soil runs red with volcanic ash and the air turns thin, blue agave grows slower and sweeter. Here, in the highlands of Los Altos de Jalisco, two travelling bartenders and a local maestro tequilero came together on a recipe that became Olmeca Altos Plata.

    Expert Description

Olmeca Altos Plata is a 100% agave Mexican Blanco Tequila, bottled at 38%.

The tequila comes from the Destilería Colonial de Jalisco distillery in the town of Arandas, deep in the Los Altos highlands, where the agave is left to mature for seven to eight years in mineral-rich volcanic soil. Olmeca Altos was founded in 2009, when bartenders Henry Besant and Dre Masso travelled to Jalisco and teamed up with maestro tequilero Jesús Hernández, who still leads production today. The agave is slow-cooked in brick ovens for three days, then crushed using both the centuries-old tahona stone and a modern roller mill, a combination that gives the tequila both punch and smoothness. The Plata expression is bottled straight after distillation in copper stills, with no ageing, so the pure character of the agave shines through.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cooked agave meets sweet, fruity candied orange and a zesty tang, spiced with a touch of vanilla, caramel and soft woody undertones.

    Palate

Well-balanced, with vibrant lime, delicate herbal tones and a fresh character that lets the agave carry through.

    Finish

The tequila is distilled by Destilería Colonial de Jalisco in the Los Altos highlands, where the agave is hand-harvested and slow-roasted in traditional brick ovens before being distilled in copper stills. There is something to letting a tequila rest. Para Todos Reposado has been given the time the category demands, and the result is a spirit with a little more calm about it than its Blanco sibling — agave still in the driver's seat, but with the edges rounded off.

    Expert Description

Para Todos Tequila Reposado is a Mexican Reposado Tequila made from 100% blue agave and bottled at 40%. Reposado is a protected category within tequila, where Mexican regulations require the distillate to rest for at least two months in oak barrels before it can carry the name — hence the word "reposado" itself, Spanish for "rested". That gives a tequila built on the same clean agave profile as the brand's Blanco expression, but with a calmer, softer character.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Agave and citrus still form the core, now joined by a faint touch of the barrel the tequila has rested in.

    Palate

Softer and more rounded than an unaged tequila, with agave still carrying the weight.

    Finish

Mild and gently warm, with a slightly longer finish than the Blanco.

  • Bottle of Patrón Añejo Tequila with dark-tinted glass and gold-embossed label
    Item no.: 22227865479-10147

Inside the dim ageing cellar in Jalisco, rows of barrels stand in quiet order — French oak beside Hungarian oak, with a handful of casks that once held American whiskey tucked among them. Here, Patrón Añejo is left to mature for more than a year, until the raw tequila gathers depth, spice and a hint of dark chocolate.

    Expert Description

Patrón Añejo is a Mexican Añejo Tequila, aged in a combination of French oak, Hungarian oak and used American whiskey barrels, and bottled at 40% ABV. Like the rest of the Patrón range, it comes from Hacienda Patrón in the highlands around Atotonilco el Alto in Jalisco, where everything is made from 100% Blue Weber Agave.

The Añejo expression rests at least 12 months in barrel, where each of the three cask types adds its own imprint — from the finesse of French oak to the caramel and spice of the American whiskey barrels. The result is a fuller, more complex tequila than both Silver and Reposado in the same range.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose opens with warm vanilla, dried fruit and toasted oak, layered with honey and light caramel, closing on a whisper of spice.

    Palate

The palate is silky and full-bodied with butterscotch, roasted agave and dark chocolate, spiced with baking spice. Raisin and honey follow, along with a touch of ripe melon.

    Finish

The finish is medium to long, with caramel and a light smokiness that lingers alongside the toasted oak notes.

The highlands around Atotonilco el Alto sit bathed in afternoon sun, rows of blue agave stretching toward the horizon like a rippling sea of spiked leaves. Here, in the heart of Jalisco, Patrón Reposado rests for a few months in oak barrels until the raw sweetness of the agave softens into warm, woody tones.

    Expert Description

Patrón Reposado is a Mexican Reposado Tequila, aged in American oak barrels and bottled at 40% ABV. The bottle comes from Hacienda Patrón in the highlands around Atotonilco el Alto in Jalisco, where the distillery (NOM-1492) works exclusively with 100% Blue Weber Agave.

The agave is hand-harvested, and the entire production runs in small batches — from double distillation to the hand-blown bottle and the individual hand-numbering of every bottle. The Reposado expression rests at least four months in barrel, giving it a softer, rounder character than a fresh Blanco, without losing the fresh agave character Patrón is known for.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The nose offers chili and fresh grapefruit peel, spiced with a little lime zest and cooked green pepper. Underneath the sharper notes sits a softer base of vanilla, white flowers and toasted oak, with a hint of honey and black pepper.

    Palate

The palate is dominated by citrus peel and small flashes of pepper, before caramel and vanilla from the barrel arrive mid-palate alongside bright citrus and stone fruit. A thread of black pepper carries through to the finish.

    Finish

The finish is medium in length and silky, with light floral and vanilla notes, a touch of smoke and a warm pepper edge that fades quietly.

At Hacienda Patrón in Jalisco, blue agave is still crushed with a two-tonne stone wheel, just as it was a century ago. Patrón Silver is the result – a crystal-clear tequila where the old craft has never gone out of style.

    Expert Description

Patrón Silver Tequila is a Mexican Ultra Premium Tequila made from 100% Blue Weber Agave and bottled at 40% alcohol. It is distilled exclusively at the Hacienda Patrón distillery in Jalisco, where nothing but Patrón is produced. The agave is crushed partly with a traditional tahona – a two-tonne volcanic stone wheel pulled in circles – and partly with a modern roller mill, a combination that lends the finished tequila both earthy depth and bright citrus notes.

Patrón Silver is the brand's foundation and the base for every other expression in the range. It's unaged yet smooth and round, which has made it one of the world's best-selling premium tequilas and a bartender favourite in classics like the Margarita and the Paloma.

    Tasting Notes

    Expert Description

Reserva del Señor Tequila Blanco is a 100% agave Mexican Blanco Tequila bottled at 38%.

The house behind the bottle dates back to 1943 and today forms part of the Spanish Caballero Group, which carries the Jalisco tradition forward. Item no.: 22227865479-10170

"Uno, dos, tres" is the ritual for drinking a Sierra Silver: salt on the back of the hand, a quick shot, and finally a slice of lemon. That has been the sound of parties worldwide ever since the distillery in Guadalajara sent out its first bottle in 1981.

    Expert Description

Sierra Silver Mexican Tequila is a Blanco Tequila, also known internationally as Silver, bottled at 38%.

The tequila comes from Destilerías Sierra Unidas in Guadalajara, Jalisco, where the Sierra family, now in its fourth generation, distils from blue Weber agave grown in the mineral-rich soil around the city. After two distillations in traditional pot stills, the tequila rests for a couple of weeks in steel tanks to settle before being bottled crystal clear, with no barrel ageing at all. The agave content sits at around 85%, well above the legal minimum of 51%.

  • Bottle of Teremana Small Batch Añejo Tequila with dark label and golden colour
    Item no.: 059763-615-458

Nearly 2,000 metres up, in Los Altos de Jalisco, the soil runs redder and the agave sweeter than down in the lowlands. Here, in a small town called Jesús María, a distillery was built from the ground up with a single purpose: making tequila the right way.

    Expert Description

Teremana Small Batch Añejo Tequila is an Añejo Tequila aged at least twelve months in American whiskey barrels and bottled at 40%.

Behind the brand is actor Dwayne Johnson, who worked with a Mexican family-owned company to build Destilería Teremana de Agave from scratch in the Jalisco Highlands. The name combines the Latin "tere" for earth with the Polynesian "mana" for spirit - Teremana, spirit of the earth. Here, jimadores harvest mature Blue Weber agave from the highlands, slow-roasting it in small traditional brick ovens before it's pressed, fermented and distilled twice in handmade copper pot stills, built by a local artisan on the distillery's own grounds.

The Añejo expression spends at least twelve months in American whiskey barrels, picking up colour and weight while the agave still shines through. The tequila has picked up several international awards along the way, including gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the Tequila & Mezcal Masters.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Caramel and vanilla lead, followed by roasted agave, toasted oak, honey and a touch of warm spice.

    Palate

Smooth and full-bodied with butterscotch, brown sugar and a hint of dark chocolate, while black pepper and clove add spice against the honey and vanilla.

    Finish

Long and elegant, with oak, spice and a creamy vanilla sweetness that lingers.

  • Bottle of Tiscaz Gold Tequila with golden colour
    Item no.: 22227865479-10186

Not every tequila comes with a distillery that boasts its own website and its own tourist tours. Tiscaz Gold is one of the quieter voices out of Jalisco, a bottle that simply does its job: golden, round and ready to be mixed.

    Expert Description

Tiscaz Gold Mexican Tequila is a Gold tequila made from 100% blue agave, bottled at 35%.

The tequila is distilled in the state of Jalisco in Mexico, home of the blue agave and the birthplace of the tequila category itself. Gold, also called Joven, is a style in which a clear Blanco tequila is blended with a smaller share of aged tequila, giving the bottle its golden colour and a softer, rounder character without the agave having to wait years in a barrel. The result is a tequila built for wide use, from shots to big-batch cocktails.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

A sweet aroma of agave, caramel and vanilla.

    Palate

Full-bodied and slightly sweet, with notes of fruit, a touch of pepper and a fresh, herbaceous edge.

    Did You Know?

Did you know that a Gold tequila like Tiscaz does not need years of barrel ageing to get its golden colour? By blending a clear Blanco with a smaller amount of aged tequila, it picks up both the colour and a softer flavour, without the long wait an Añejo requires.

  • Clear bottle of Tiscaz Blanco Tequila with Aztec-inspired label art
    Item no.: 22227865479-10187

The sun bakes over the highlands of Jalisco, where blue agave matures year after year before it's distilled into this crystal-clear tequila. Tiscaz Blanco comes straight from the still, unaged and unhurried – just agave, sun and patience.

    Expert Description

Tiscaz Blanco Tequila is a Mexican Blanco Tequila made from 100% Blue Weber Agave and bottled at 35% alcohol. The tequila comes from Jalisco and is distilled at the cooperative distillery Cooperativa Tequilera La Magdalena in the Los Valles district, registered under NOM 1463. Tiscaz is one of the lesser-known names in the tequila world, but the label carries a distinct Aztec-inspired design, and the bottle stays true to the classic unaged style, letting the agave itself do the talking.

Because Blanco Tequila doesn't rest in oak, it's the agave's raw character that carries the flavour. Tiscaz Blanco is therefore a natural base for cocktails such as the Margarita and the Paloma, though it's equally enjoyable neat with a wedge of lime and a pinch of salt.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Sweet cooked agave meets citrus zest, black pepper and a touch of herbs.

    Palate

Clean and lively, with clear agave and citrus carried by a smooth texture.

    Finish

Short and clean, with no rough edges.
