A pinch of salt on the back of the hand, a lime wedge waiting alongside — Especial Silver is usually the first tequila most people meet. Clear as spring water and crisp as a summer evening in Jalisco, without a moment's contact with wood.
Expert Description
José Cuervo Especial Silver is a Mexican Silver Tequila (Mixto), bottled at 38% ABV. It comes from the same distillery as Especial Gold, La Rojeña in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, where the José Cuervo family has produced tequila since 1795.
The Silver expression is double distilled and bottled straight after distillation, without any time in barrel. As a mixto tequila, at least 51% of its sugar source comes from blue agave, the rest from other sugars, giving it a light, direct profile built to mix well with citrus, salt and ice.
Tasting Notes
Nose
The nose is clean and direct, with cooked agave, citrus peel and a hint of black pepper.
Palate
The palate opens soft and slightly sweet, with agave up front, before vanilla and light herbal notes appear mid-palate.
Finish
The finish is short and clean, with a touch of pepper spice and a flash of mint, without any heavy cask influence.
