High above Atotonilco el Alto, rows of blue Weber agave grow slowly in volcanic soil. From these fields comes Don Julio Anejo — a tequila built not for fire, but for caramel, honey and a quiet touch of citrus. It is made to be sipped, not shot.
Expert Description
Don Julio Anejo is a Mexican Anejo Tequila made from 100% Blue Weber agave and aged in American oak barrels for at least 18 months at 38% ABV.
The tequila carries the name of Don Julio González, who at just 17 years old in 1942 borrowed money to take over a distillery in Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco. He insisted on quality over volume and planted his own agave fields long before that was standard practice — an approach still shaping every Don Julio tequila today. The Anejo expression rests in American oak barrels previously used for bourbon, giving it a deep, rounded character and making it one of the world’s best-selling 100% agave Anejo tequilas.
