Six months in oak isn't long by tequila standards, but it's enough to give Tradicional Gold Reposado its soft, golden character — without ever letting the agave fade into the background.
Expert Description
Jose Cuervo Tradicional Gold Reposado is a Mexican Reposado Tequila made from 100% agave, rested in oak barrels and bottled at 38%.
Like Tradicional Silver, the bottle comes from La Rojeña in Jalisco, where the Cuervo family has distilled since 1795. Many people know Cuervo through the yellow Especial — a mixto tequila with only 51% agave — but Tradicional Gold Reposado is distilled solely from blue agave. After distillation it rests for six months in oak barrels, which gives it a light golden colour and a rounder, more complex flavour than a Blanco Tequila.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Agave, oak, honey and citrus, spiced with an earthy touch of dried herbs.
Palate
Medium-bodied with a slightly oily richness, where roasted agave, pineapple and oak meet black and white pepper along with a hint of vanilla.
Finish
The finish opens mild with agave and vanilla before closing on a warm, peppery note.
