Jamaica Rum

  • SBS Jamaica 2021 WPE American Virgin Oak Miniature Single Barrel Selection Jamaica Rum 20 cl 61,2%
    Item no.: 05944-88100

At Worthy Park Estate, right in the middle of Jamaica, molasses gets boiled down into a rum so heavy on esters it practically announces itself from across the room. That's the raw spirit four different virgin oak casks have since been left to shape, each in its own way, and this bottle is the American one.

    The Expert's Description

SBS Jamaica 2021 WPE American Virgin Oak is a Jamaica Rum distilled at Worthy Park Estate and bottled at cask strength, 61.2%, from an American Virgin Oak cask.

This bottle is one quarter of 1423's "Experimental Cask Series" – a box of four identical 20 cl bottles drawn from the same molasses-based distillate, where each bottle was instead matured in its own virgin oak cask: Spanish, Danish, French and American. The idea is simple and rather clever: same raw rum, same year of distillation, but four different origins of oak, so you can taste exactly what the wood itself does to the spirit without the distillery's style or age getting in the way.

The WPE mark signals that the rum comes from Worthy Park's heaviest ester profile, the style the distillery is best known for among rum enthusiasts. The spirit ran through a copper pot still in 2021 and was then left to rest in the American Virgin Oak cask until bottling in August 2023, unfiltered and with nothing added.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Overripe banana and pineapple meet a clear ester funk, with a sweet vanilla note from the fresh oak sitting just underneath.

    Palate

Tropical fruit and a lightly fermented sweetness, followed by spiced wood and a warm, peppery edge from the virgin timber.

    Finish

Toasted and wood-driven, with a lingering ester sweetness that stays in the mouth.

    Item no.: 05944-8898

Four bottles, one and the same rum, four different casks. That's the idea behind this small release from the Danish bottler 1423, where a single Jamaican rum from Worthy Park was split across four virgin oak casks from four different countries — Spanish, Danish, French and American. This bottle is the French edition.

    The Expert's Description

S.B.S 1423 Jamaica 2021 WPE French Virgin Oak is a Jamaica Single Cask Rum from Worthy Park, aged in a French virgin oak cask and bottled at cask strength, 63.6%.

The rum carries the WPE mark, which at Worthy Park denotes the highest-ester style the distillery produces — a profile known for its powerful, almost perfumed fruitiness. The base is molasses, distilled on a traditional pot still in 2021. Rather than resting the rum in a used bourbon or sherry cask, the standard route for most rum, 1423 filled it into a brand-new, unused oak cask sourced from a French cooperage. Casks like that give up their character far quicker and more intensely than seasoned wood, so even a relatively short maturation leaves a clear mark on the rum.

The bottle belongs to 1423's experimental box series from autumn 2023, where four identical 20cl bottles show what the origin of the wood alone changes in one and the same rum. Non-chill filtered and free of additives, like the rest of the S.B.S range.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Overripe banana and pineapple meet a whiff of nail polish remover, softened by sweet, fresh wood from the new oak.

    Palate

Tropical fruit and spicy young oak, with a hint of vanilla that just about keeps the ester power in check.

    Finish

Long and oak-tight, with lingering, ester-driven fruit sweetness that stays in the mouth.

The four bottles in the series — Spanish, Danish, French and American virgin oak — come from exactly the same batch of rum before ageing. That makes them a rare example of a controlled tasting, where only the nationality of the wood sets the bottles apart.

    Item no.: 05944-8897

In the middle of Jamaica, where sugar cane fields roll up the hills around Lluidas Vale, sits a distillery that has been making rum since the 1740s – with one long pause along the way. Today Worthy Park is back in full swing, and this bottle is the result of a small Danish experiment: what happens when the exact same rum is left to rest on four different types of virgin oak?

    The Expert's Description

S.B.S Jamaica 2021 WPE Danish Virgin Oak is a Jamaican Single Cask Rum distilled from molasses on a pot still at Worthy Park and bottled at cask strength, 61.6%.

The bottle is one quarter of 1423's "Experimental Cask Series" – a box of four 20cl bottles from the same batch of Worthy Park rum, where each cask is a virgin oak barrel sourced from a different country. Alongside the Danish one sit a Spanish, a French and an American release, and the whole point is to taste side by side how the origin of the wood alone changes an otherwise identical rum. The Danish virgin oak cask has given a rum with clear sweetness and spice from the fresh wood, while Worthy Park's signature funk and fermentation character still comes through strongly in the glass.

Worthy Park is among the last 100% Jamaican-owned distilleries on the island and one of the few that still makes rum from its own cane fields to its own bottle. The molasses comes from the estate's own sugar factory, and the rum carries no added colour and is not chill-filtered – as with the rest of the S.B.S range.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Overripe banana and tropical fruit meet a clear funky edge, with a touch of vanilla and toasted wood from the fresh oak.

    Palate

Bold and spiced, with dark chocolate, vanilla and a warm woody sweetness, while the fermented Jamaican character stays present underneath it all.

    Finish

Long and warming, with toasted oak, brown spice and a lingering fruit sweetness that fights a little against the high strength.

    Did You Know?

Worthy Park stopped rum production entirely in the early 1960s due to oversupply in the Jamaican rum industry – and stood silent for more than 40 years. It wasn't until 2005 that the distillery got new copper pot stills from Forsyths in Scotland and properly returned to the rum map.

  • SBS Jamaica 2021 WPE Spansk Virgin Oak Miniature Single Barrel Selection Jamaica Rum 20 cl 63,4%
    Item no.: 05944-8896

Jamaica has its own sound in the rum world – funky, fermented, and honestly a little wild – and at Worthy Park Estate, right in the middle of the island, they've been shaping that style since 1720. SBS brought this particular rum home to Denmark and let it rest in a Spanish virgin oak cask, on its own, with nothing else to lean on.

    The Expert's Description

SBS Jamaica 2021 WPE Spanish Virgin Oak is a Jamaica Rum from Worthy Park Estate, aged in a Spanish virgin oak cask and bottled at cask strength, 63.4%.

The rum was distilled from molasses in 2021 on Worthy Park's traditional pot stills and spent two years in a single cask before being bottled in August 2023. The cask is part of a small four-way SBS experiment, where the same rum was split across a Spanish, a Danish, a French and an American virgin oak cask – none of them previously used for anything else. With no leftover whisky or bourbon character in the wood, what's left in the glass is the raw interaction between rum and fresh oak, and Spanish oak tends to bring more spice and structure to the table than its American counterpart.

Worthy Park is today one of only two fully Jamaican-owned rum distilleries left on the island, run by the Clarke family since 1918. Everything happens on site – from cutting the cane in the fields to bottling the finished rum – which makes Worthy Park one of the true single-estate rum producers still standing.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Fresh oak spice and vanilla arrive first, with the funky, overripe-banana signature of Jamaican rum sitting just behind, along with a faint trace of cellulose.

    Palate

Bold and spicy, with notes of pepper, coconut and lightly scorched sugar, held together by the tannic grip of fresh oak.

    Finish

Long and warming, with a dry, woody edge and a lingering note of dark fruit.

Hampden Estate Coffret 8 Marks Collection 1 Year Ex. Bourbon Cask Pure Single Jamaica Rum 8x20 cl 52%

Hampden Estate Coffret 8 Marks Collection 1 Year Ex-Bourbon Cask is a rare and deeply fascinating release that gives an outstanding insight into Hampden's distillate - this time with an extra layer of complexity from a year of ageing in ex-bourbon casks. Where the original 8 Marks collection shows the distillery's raw and unadulterated style straight from the pot still, this version adds a subtle but noticeable dimension of cask that rounds off and highlights the differences between the eight marks in a new way.

Each of the eight bottles represents a specific mark, varying in ester level, fermentation length and aromatic profile. After a year of ageing in ex-bourbon casks, the distillates gain a softer texture, a more integrated sweetness and a light vanilla and coconut-touched depth, without losing the wild Hampden character. The lower ester marks appear fresh and fruity with notes of citrus, sugar cane and green banana, now rounded off by mild bourbon cask sweetness. The middle marks show clear tropical fruit, pineapple, lime, olive and fermented funk, gaining extra warmth and structure from the cask. The highest ester marks remain explosive, intense and aromatically extreme, but the bourbon cask adds a light creaminess and a more harmonious transition between the sharp, acidic and fruity elements.

The collection works as a study in how even short ageing can affect a distillate with such a distinct identity as Hampden's. It is an opportunity to taste how the individual marks develop when given time on wood, and how the bourbon cask interacts with ester levels from the mild to the extreme. For enthusiasts it gives a deeper understanding of Hampden's craft, and for tasting panels and masterclasses it is an invaluable tool for exploring the building blocks of rum.

Hampden Estate Coffret 8 Marks Collection 1 Year Ex-Bourbon Cask is a release made for nerding out, immersion and experiments. It shows both the differences and the connections between the eight marks and demonstrates how even small changes in ageing can create new nuances in one of the world's most characterful distillates. It is a collection that speaks directly to collectors, enthusiasts and anyone who wants to understand Hampden from the ground up.

Hampden Estate Coffret 8 Marks Collection Pure Single Jamaica Rum 8x20 cl 60%

Hampden Estate Coffret 8 Marks Collection is one of the most fascinating and educational releases you can get from Hampden Estate - a complete tasting set that gives a unique insight into the distillery's DNA. Hampden is known for its distinctive esters, its long fermentations and its traditional pot still production, and in this collection you get eight different "marks", each representing a specific style, a specific ester level and a specific aromatic direction. It is a journey through everything from the milder and more fruity expressions to the extreme, explosive and almost overwhelming high-ester marks that have made Hampden famous worldwide.

Each 20 cl bottle is bottled at 60% and shows a clean, unadulterated version of the distillate without the influence of cask ageing. This means you taste Hampden in its most raw and authentic form, where the differences between the individual marks stand razor-sharp. The lower ester marks offer notes of fresh fruit, sugar cane, citrus and light fermented nuances, while the middle marks move into deeper tropical fruit, pineapple, banana, lime, olive and more pronounced funk. The highest ester marks are intense, wild and extremely aromatic with explosive notes of overripe fruit, glue, acetone, rubber, spices and an almost electric acidity that only Hampden can deliver.

The collection works both as a study in Jamaican rum production and as an experience for enthusiasts wanting to understand how ester levels and fermentation affect flavour and aroma. It is a rare opportunity to taste the individual components that are normally blended in Hampden's commercial bottlings, giving a deeper understanding of how the distillery's character is built up from the ground.

Hampden Estate Coffret 8 Marks Collection is not just a rum release, but a tool for nerding out, immersion and flavour experiments. It is ideal for masterclasses, rum tastings or for the collector who wants a piece of Hampden's history and craft in its purest form. It is a release that shows why Hampden is considered one of the world's most unique and uncompromising distilleries.

    Item no.: 505956-12684297-15

In recent years Appleton has renamed its clear rum to Kingston 62 in certain markets, but this Old Version keeps the original name and recipe that many collectors still seek out.

    Expert Description

Appleton White Old Version is a Jamaica Rum, bottled at 40%.

The rum is produced at Appleton Estate in the Nassau Valley of Jamaica, where the distillery has made rum since 1749. Appleton White was for many years the house's clear, unfiltered rum, but has since been rebranded to Kingston 62 in several markets with no changes to the recipe itself. This Old Version is bottled in the original 76 cl bottle under the classic Appleton White name, making it a piece of the brand's history for those who know the difference.

The result is a light, clean rum, where sugarcane and citrus meet a fresh, dry finish.

  • Bottle of Rammstein Limited Edition Cognac Cask Finish rum
    Item no.: 059763-615-244

The Rammstein name is known from the stage, but behind the bottle lies a very different craft - a Caribbean blend, finished off in ex-cognac casks.

    Expert Description

Rammstein Limited Edition Cognac Cask Finish is a Rum from Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad, up to 12 years old with a finishing period on ex-cognac casks for 12 months, bottled at 46%.

The rum is a blend of distillates from three of the Caribbean's most respected rum-producing countries. The base is aged up to 12 years, after which it is moved onto ex-cognac casks for a further 12 months. The cognac casks give the rum a softer, more grape-sweet character on top of the powerful, molasses-heavy base, particularly from Jamaica and Guyana. The release is limited to 5,800 bottles.

The name is a nod to the German rock band, but the contents are pure Caribbean rum craftsmanship with no further connection to the music.

  • Miniature bottle British Royal Navy Imperial Rum with certificate
    Item no.: 059763-615-9

A numbered certificate accompanies this small bottle - proof that the contents come from one of the original gallon bottles the British Navy used for sailors' daily rum ration.

    Expert description

British Royal Navy Miniature with Certificate is a dark Imperial Rum of unknown distillery, bottled at 54% in a small 5 cl collector's bottle with an accompanying certificate of authenticity.

The rum comes from one of the original "One Imperial Gallon" bottles carried aboard British Navy ships for distributing the daily "tot of rum". When the tradition was abolished in 1970, remaining stocks were recalled, and some of the rare gallon bottles only resurfaced many years later. To make the contents available to collectors, part of the rum has been bottled into small 5 cl bottles, each with a numbered certificate documenting its origin.

Only 70 of these miniature bottles with certificate have been produced, making each one a tangible piece of British Naval rum history - an era when navy strength sat well above ordinary rum, and where the very term "over proof" arose as a test of whether the rum could ignite gunpowder.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Dark, molasses-heavy and with a distinct hint of age.

    Palate

Powerful and raw, in the classic navy style at high strength.

    Finish

    Long, warm and lingering.

    Specifications

    Investment potential

High - only 70 numbered miniature bottles with certificate exist, offering access to an authentic navy rum that is otherwise almost impossible to find available.

    Did you know?

The term "proof" in spirits comes from the Navy's practice of testing rum strength by pouring it over gunpowder and trying to ignite it - if the gunpowder could still burn, the rum was "above proof".

    Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0150

There is rum you pour, and there is rum you approach carefully. DOK belongs firmly to the second group. Overripe banana, varnish, olive brine and something like fruit that went one step too far, pressed into two bottles, one of which has never seen the inside of a cask.

    The expert's description

Rum4u Jamaica Dok Gift Set w. Miniature Single Cask Rum 5+50 cl 79% is a gift set holding a Single Cask Rum from Jamaica finished in an ex-Madeira cask and bottled at cask strength, 79%, alongside a miniature of unaged distillate at 80%.

The set contains Rum4u Jamaica Dok 2022 Single Cask Rum 50 cl 79% and Rum4u Jamaica Dok Miniature Unaged Distillate 5 cl 80%. The large bottle is matured rum with six extra months in a used Madeira cask, the small one is the spirit in its raw state. It is rare to taste a Jamaican high ester rum before and after the cask in one sitting.

DOK is an ester mark from Hampden Estate in Trelawny, Jamaica, and it sits at the top of the distillery's scale. This bottling is marked 1500-1600 g/hLAA esters, meaning ester content per hectolitre of pure alcohol. For comparison, most light rum styles sit well below 100. Esters are what gave the Jamaican style its reputation: banana skin, glue, lacquer and overripe pineapple, at a volume that cannot be ignored.

Rum4u is a Danish rum importer run by Lasse, Kim and Brian, who buy single casks and bottle them themselves. This cask carries the number 1.1-22 and produced 79 bottles, which happens to match the strength. The Madeira cask was chosen as a counterweight: it lays dried fruit and a tart sweetness beneath the esters without muting them.

    Tasting notes

    Nose

Ferocious from the first second. Banana skin, acetone, brined olive and overripe pineapple, with tar and old timber underneath. The miniature is even more direct, sour and green, while the matured version has picked up raisin and fig from the Madeira cask.

    Palate

With water in the glass it spreads out: fermented fruit, brine, black pepper and an oily texture that clings to the tongue. Neat, it is mostly the strength doing the talking. The Madeira runs through the middle as a dry, tart stripe of fruit and keeps the esters from reading as pure solvent.

    Finish

Very long. Liquorice root, burnt sugar and a saline, almost mineral edge that stays for minutes. The mouth feels warm long afterwards, and the finish shifts character every time you come back to the glass.

    Did you know?

DOK stands for the initials of Dermot Owen Kelly-Lawson, a former owner of Hampden Estate. The distillery's marks are named after people and abbreviations from the estate's history, and DOK is the most powerful of them all.

    Expert Description

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280132

Luca Gargano, the man behind Velier, returns to the 19th-century rum tradition, where Jamaican merchants blended rum from several distilleries under one brand.

    Expert Description

Papalin Original Vatted 7 Year Pot Still Jamaica Rum is a Jamaica Rum, a blend of pot still rum from Hampden Estate and Worthy Park, tropically aged 7 years and bottled at 47%.

Papalin is Luca Gargano's personal project, created to revive the lost tradition of "vatted" rum, blends of rum from several distilleries on the same island, which Jamaican merchants made in the late 1800s, before the style disappeared in the 1970s. By uniting Hampden Estate's wild, ester-rich character with Worthy Park's more balanced profile, Papalin creates a rum that shows the breadth of Jamaica's pot still tradition in a single bottle.

The result is a complex, fat-laden rum with both medicinal and spiced tones.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Apple, candied lemon and almonds, with eucalyptus, medicinal notes and burnt wood.

    Palate

Rich and generous with vanilla, mirabelle plum and herbaceous notes of menthol, liquorice and cardamom.

    Finish

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280107

It took ninety attempts to nail the right spice blend, and the result is a Jamaican high ester rum that's equal parts authentic and approachable.

    Expert Description

Canerock is a spiced Jamaica Rum-based Spirit Drink, distilled in pot and column stills at the Clarendon and Long Pond distilleries, partly finished in ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and flavoured with Madagascar vanilla, Jamaican ginger and coconut, bottled at 40%.

The base is genuine Jamaican high ester rum between 5 and 10 years old, giving Canerock a deeper, more authentic rum character than many other spiced rum products on the market. The addition of natural spices and flavourings means the drink is sold as a spirit drink rather than rum, however. Part of the blend is finished in sherry casks, adding rich sweetness and notes of raisin and cocoa.

The result is a warm, bakery-like drink with a pronounced Jamaican ester character underneath.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Vanilla, coffee bean, dark chocolate and coconut, in a rich and complex bakery-like bouquet.

    Palate

Caramel, soft spice and raisins, with allspice and a delicate oak tannin fullness.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280050

The Italian bottler Valinch & Mallet found a cask at the Clarendon distillery whose lychee and mango aromas are so intense the rum almost tastes as it smells.

    Expert Description

Clarendon 2008/2021 Valinch & Mallet 12 Year is a Jamaica Rum, distilled at the Clarendon distillery in 2008, bottled from a single cask by Valinch & Mallet in 2021 and bottled at 56.1%.

Clarendon, also known as Monymusk, is one of Jamaica's oldest distilleries and known for powerful, ester-rich pot still rums. Valinch & Mallet, an Italian bottler founded by Davide Romano and Fabio Ermoli, selected this cask for their "Spirit of Art" series, where each bottle carries a unique artwork by a young artist. The 12 years of ageing have given the rum an unusual fullness of tropical fruit combined with a pronounced oaky structure.

    Nose

Intense lychee and mango, with caramel, red fruit and a touch of black banana.

    Item no.: 22227865479-1106-197280049

26 years in a single iron-still cask have given this Clarendon a depth and complexity rarely seen in Jamaican rum, adorned with a painting by young Chinese artist Chen Li.

    Expert Description

Clarendon 1995/2021 Valinch & Mallet 26 Year is a Jamaica Rum, distilled at the Clarendon distillery in 1995 on an iron pot still, aged 25 years locally and a further year in Scotland, bottled from cask number 433943 by Valinch & Mallet in 2021 and bottled at 56.9%.

Clarendon, also known as Monymusk, is one of Jamaica's oldest distilleries with a long tradition of powerful, ester-rich pot still rums. After 25 years of ageing in the tropical climate, the cask was moved to Scotland for one final year of maturation before Valinch & Mallet bottled it as part of their "Spirit of Art" series. Only 270 bottles of this rare release exist, its label bearing an original painting by young Chinese artist Chen Li.

    Palate

Complex with lychee juice, wood, spice, iodine, caramel and plum.
