7 extra years in the cask is enough to transform Hampden's raw power into something more complex, without losing the distillery's signature funk.
Expert description
Hampden Estate 15 Year is a Pure Single Jamaican Rum distilled on pot still and bottled at 50%.
The rum comes from Hampden Estate in Trelawny, Jamaica, whose roots go back to 1753 and which is known for its traditional high-ester production using wild fermentation and nothing but its own spring water added. This release is tropically matured for at least 15 years right at the distillery, with no added sugar or other additives, giving a more mature, deeper version of Hampden's signature profile compared to the house's younger releases.
Tasting notes
Nose
Intense with flambéed banana and caramelised mango, followed by petrol-like and milky notes, dried flowers and vegetal notes.
Palate
Full-bodied and powerful with a smoky, lightly salty edge, underpinned by tannins plus notes of pineapple, oak and a solvent-like sharpness.
Finish
Long and spiced with coconut, banana, pepper, ginger, mango and dried stone fruit that lingers.
