Gin is originally from the Netherlands and is a contraction of the French word for juniper. They started mixing alcohol with juniper in the 17th century for kidney pain. This spread to England, and the English soldiers got a taste for it. The gin was later sold at the pharmacy and used against ailments. Today, gin is known for use in drinks such as gin and tonic, dry Martini and Tom Collins.

The Radclyffe family took over Foxdenton way back in 1367 and it is still the Radclyffe family that owns and runs the manor's activities, including the family's gin brand.
