Tequila

Here you can find different versions of the delicious beverage from Mexico. Mezcal is the general category to which Tequila belongs - just like the Whiskey category, which also has sub-categories such as Bourbon, Rye etc.

Mezcal is made from agave, but there are many different species - up to 28 to 30 different. Below is the Blue Agave (Agave Tequiliana Weber), which is the type to be used for the production of tequila according to the restrictions, the so-called Denomination de Origin.
  • Blanco is a clear / white tequila that is not dish-aged and therefore has strong agave aroma and freshness.
  • Reposado is stored on wooden casks for at least 2 months and up to 12 months. The individual manufacturer therefore chooses himself within the range. Reposado is the preferred type of tequila in Mexico
  • Anejo means old and an anejo is at least stored on wooden casks for 12 months and up to 36 months. These tequilas are softer and rounder, but with less agave aroma.
  • Extra Anejo is, as its name suggests, an anejo, which is extra dish stored, which means that the tequila has been at minimum wooden barrels for 36 months. These tequilas are only available in limited quantities

  • Casa Don Ramon Platinium Anejo Cristalino Tequila 70 cl 35%
    Item no.: 222106-19728

No barrel time, no filtration, nothing to hide. Platinium Plata is agave in its rawest form — double distilled and bottled while the scent of the Mexican highlands still clings to it.

    Expert Description

Casa Don Ramón Platinium Plata is a Mexican Tequila from Jalisco, made from 100% blue agave and bottled at 35%. It comes from Casa Don Ramón, a distillery founded in 1996 as a wholly Mexican company working with agave grown in Los Altos de Jalisco. Platinium Plata is the purest expression in the Platinium range: a double-distilled blanco that never touches oak, showing the agave's character with nothing in the way.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cooked and raw agave with herbal tones, wet earth and a hint of sweetness.

    Palate

Citrus peel, lime and melon are followed by a light peppery warmth.

    Expert Description

Mundo Reposado Mexico Tequila is a Mexican Reposado Tequila made from 100% agave, bottled at 35%.

The tequila is distilled at La Cofradia (NOM 1137) in the Los Valles region of Jalisco – a family-owned distillery that has produced and bottled tequila for more than 50 years, and which has over time also lent its facilities to several other well-known brands in the industry. Expert Description

Topanito Agave Syrup is a pure agave syrup made from blue Weber agave grown in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico.

The syrup comes from the same brand as Topanito's tequilas, produced under the Casa Maestri distillery in the town of Tequila. The agave juice is extracted from the same piñas (agave hearts) otherwise used for tequila production, but instead of fermenting and distilling it, the juice is slowly reduced into a soft, honey-like syrup with no alcohol.

The flavour is round and naturally sweet with a touch of caramel, and the syrup dissolves easily in both cold and hot drinks.

    Expert Description

The name refers to NOM number 1146, which belongs to the Tequileña distillery in Jalisco, where master distiller Enrique Fonseca oversees production. The agaves are grown in the highlands near Atotonilco el Alto, where mineral-rich soil and higher elevation give an intense, sweet and aromatic agave profile.

There is something to letting a tequila rest. Para Todos Reposado has been given the time the category demands, and the result is a spirit with a little more calm about it than its Blanco sibling — agave still in the driver's seat, but with the edges rounded off.

    Expert Description

Para Todos Tequila Reposado is a Mexican Reposado Tequila made from 100% blue agave and bottled at 40%. Reposado is a protected category within tequila, where Mexican regulations require the distillate to rest for at least two months in oak barrels before it can carry the name — hence the word "reposado" itself, Spanish for "rested". That gives a tequila built on the same clean agave profile as the brand's Blanco expression, but with a calmer, softer character.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Agave and citrus still form the core, now joined by a faint touch of the barrel the tequila has rested in.

Cimarrón means wild or untamed in Spanish - a fitting name for a tequila made by a man who left another brand's factory floor to own his agave fields outright. In the highlands around Jalisco, the Fonseca family has grown agave since the 1880s.

    Expert Description

Cimarron Reposado is a Mexican Reposado Tequila aged up to four months in American oak barrels and bottled at 40%.

Behind the bottle is master distiller Enrique Fonseca, fourth generation in a family that has grown agave in Jalisco since the 1880s. In 1989 he bought the Tequileña distillery from Bacardi, bringing his own agave and his own distillery under one roof. Fonseca is known for having modified the distillery's column still down to just seven plates - enough to avoid an over-distilled, characterless spirit, while still giving a clean result that he then blends with pot-distilled tequila for extra body.

Cimarron Reposado is made exclusively from blue Weber agave grown on Fonseca's own fields, with no additives. Its four months in American oak add colour and rounder edges without drowning out the agave character the distillery is known for preserving.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cinnamon and baking spices meet fresh agave, light oak, vanilla and a touch of citrus and white pepper.

    Item no.: 059763-615-575

The highlands around Atotonilco sit close to 1,400 metres above sea level, where the sun beats down on rows of blue agave and the soil runs red with minerals. This is where Cimarron Blanco is born, in the heart of Jalisco — no cask, no polish, no additives, just agave distilled as close to its raw character as possible.

    Expert's Description

Cimarron Blanco Mexican Tequila is a 100% Agave Tequila from Jalisco, unaged and bottled at 40%.

The bottle comes from Tequileña, a distillery in the town of Tequila run by Enrique Fonseca — a fourth-generation agave farmer who modified the distillery's own copper column still himself, stripping it down to seven plates so the spirit wouldn't be stripped of its character along with the impurities. The result is a tequila that tastes like its raw material rather than just alcohol.

The agave is grown in the highlands around Atotonilco, where it reaches an unusually high sugar content. It's roasted slowly under low pressure in an autoclave — a gentle process that draws out sweetness and spice without scorching the plant — before the must ferments naturally with wine yeast. After two runs through the column still, Cimarron Blanco is bottled shortly after distillation, with no resting in wood and no additives.

Cimarron was founded in 1994 and belongs to the newer generation of highland tequilas built around showing off the agave in its purest form. It's not a tequila made for salt-and-lime shots — it's a Blanco that can hold its own in the glass.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cooked agave and damp earth meet fresh fruit, herbs and a touch of spice — clean and earthy, with nothing perfumed about it.

    Taste

Soft and round, with vanilla, honeydew melon and olive, lifted by mint, lemongrass and dill.

    Finish

Dry, closing on mushroom, black tea, a hint of sea spray, and finally black pepper and cinnamon.

Nearly 2,000 metres up, in Los Altos de Jalisco, the soil runs redder and the agave sweeter than down in the lowlands. Here, in a small town called Jesús María, a distillery was built from the ground up with a single purpose: making tequila the right way.

    Expert Description

Teremana Small Batch Añejo Tequila is an Añejo Tequila aged at least twelve months in American whiskey barrels and bottled at 40%.

Behind the brand is actor Dwayne Johnson, who worked with a Mexican family-owned company to build Destilería Teremana de Agave from scratch in the Jalisco Highlands. The name combines the Latin "tere" for earth with the Polynesian "mana" for spirit - Teremana, spirit of the earth. Here, jimadores harvest mature Blue Weber agave from the highlands, slow-roasting it in small traditional brick ovens before it's pressed, fermented and distilled twice in handmade copper pot stills, built by a local artisan on the distillery's own grounds.

The Añejo expression spends at least twelve months in American whiskey barrels, picking up colour and weight while the agave still shines through. The tequila has picked up several international awards along the way, including gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the Tequila & Mezcal Masters.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Caramel and vanilla lead, followed by roasted agave, toasted oak, honey and a touch of warm spice.

Smooth and full-bodied with butterscotch, brown sugar and a hint of dark chocolate, while black pepper and clove add spice against the honey and vanilla.

    Finish

    Item no.: 059763-615-120

In the heart of Jalisco, where rows of blue agave stretch toward the sun as far as the eye can see, sits La Rojeña, the oldest continuously operating distillery in Latin America. From here, Jose Cuervo Especial Reposado has been shipped out into the world since 1795, and it still shows up at pretty much every good party.

    Expert Description

Jose Cuervo Especial Reposado Mexican Tequila is a Reposado Tequila made from blue agave and bottled at 38%.

This is the Cuervo family's best-known expression and the world's best-selling tequila. It is a blend of agave and cane sugar spirit, a so-called mixto tequila, which sets it apart from 100% agave expressions such as Cuervo's own Tradicional range. What it lacks in purity, it makes up for in versatility: Especial Reposado was built for exactly what most people use it for, making a Margarita or a Paloma taste better. After distillation, the tequila rests briefly in oak barrels, which gives it its golden colour and a rounder, slightly sweet character.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cooked agave, creamy caramel and a touch of vanilla, spiced with light nuttiness and a whisper of dried herbs.

    Palate

Medium-bodied and balanced between the sweetness of the agave and spicy oak notes, with baked agave, mixed spice and a light honeyed sweetness.

    Finish

Soft and warm, with a long, spicy finish that leaves a last trace of sweetness behind.

  • Bottle of LALA Blanco Tequila with clear colour and simple label
    Item no.: 059763-615-27

Red earth, dry hills and agave in straight rows as far as the eye can see. Jalisco has made tequila for generations, and that's where LALA gets theirs.
But the story actually begins in a bar in Brooklyn, where two Dutch friends tasted something they couldn't buy back home in Amsterdam.

    Expert Description

LALA Blanco Tequila is a Blanco Tequila from Jalisco in Mexico, made from 100% Blue Weber Agave, unaged and bottled at 38%.

Ambre and Iris came home from the US with the memories, but not the bottles. The solution was to make Amsterdam's first tequila brand themselves, and LALA became the city's first female-owned brand at the same time. The name comes from the feminine article "la" found in a number of languages, and with two women behind the brand it became LALA. The bottles are filled and labelled by hand, one at a time, on a production line staffed entirely by women.

The distillate itself comes from an award-winning distillery in the heart of the tequila region in Jalisco, where production runs in small batches. The agave is baked for over nine hours until the piña is soft enough to release the sugar when crushed. The juice ferments with yeast for around 72 hours and is then distilled twice. No barrel ageing, no detour - the Blanco expression goes straight to bottle, which is why the agave stands out so clearly.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe agave right away, with something reminiscent of olive oil behind it. Green apple, a touch of anise and the smell of freshly cut grass.

    Palate

Semi-sweet on the palate with more body than you'd expect at 38%. The agave stays in the middle while citrus and lime spread out to the sides. A green pepper note appears at the end.

    Finish

Clean and refreshing. The herbal notes linger, and there's a light spiced warmth that stays for a while.

The highlands around Jalisco lie red and dry under the sun. The agaves stand in long rows and wait seven to eight years before the jimador arrives with his coa and cuts the leaves away. What's left is the piña — the heart that becomes tequila.

    Expert Description

LALA Reposado Tequila is a Reposado Tequila made from 100% blue agave from Jalisco in Mexico, matured four months in new oak barrels and bottled at 40%.

Behind the bottle are two Dutch friends, Ambre and Iris. They fell for tequila at a bar in Brooklyn, came home to Amsterdam and discovered that kind of tequila didn't really exist there. So they made it themselves. LALA became Amsterdam's first tequila brand, and the name comes from the feminine article "la" — twice, for two women. Production takes place in small batches at an award-winning distillery in Jalisco.

The agave is baked for over nine hours until the piña is soft and the sugar easy to press free. The juice ferments naturally for around 72 hours and is then distilled twice. The distillate spends four months in new oak barrels, and that's where the colour and the round tone come from: fresh wood quickly releases vanilla, caramel and a light spiced oakiness, without overpowering the agave.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cooked agave first, sweet and slightly earthy. Baked apple and vanilla on top, with a touch of anise and freshly cut grass in the background.

    Palate

Soft and semi-sweet on the palate. Caramel and vanilla from the new wood, the agave still clear in the middle of it all, and a hint of citrus toward the end.

    Finish

Medium-length and warm. Herbs and lightly smoked oak linger without biting.

  • Bottle of Mayaciel Reposado Tequila with bronze label and golden colour
    Item no.: 059763-615-23

In Amatitán, in the shadow of the Sierra Madre, this Reposado doesn't rest in the usual bourbon barrels. It's been left to mature in barrels that once crossed the Caribbean full of rum - and the result is a sweetness you rarely find in a tequila.

    Expert Description

Mayaciel Reposado Tequila is a Reposado Tequila matured in Caribbean rum barrels and bottled at 43%.

Behind the bottle stands Hacienda de Oro, the Partida family's distillery in the Valle de Tequila near Amatitán. Don Partida founded the distillery in the 1970s, and his recipes and techniques are still used today by the current master distiller, his descendant David Partida. Mayaciel uses only agaves from its own fields, where the blue Weber agaves mature for six to eight years without artificial fertiliser before they're harvested and cooked into tequila a stone's throw from the distillery.

What sets this Reposado apart from almost every other is the choice of barrel. Mayaciel uses only carefully selected rum barrels from the Caribbean for maturation - not the bourbon barrels the industry has otherwise made close to standard. The barrels are thoroughly prepared before the tequila fills them, and the nearly six months on wood give the spirit a layered aroma where the fresh agave still comes through, now joined by the sweetness of rum.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Cooked agave meets a gentle sweetness of vanilla and caramel - soft and inviting from the first breath.

    Palate

Fresh, floral agave mingles with tropical fruit, while the rum's spiced barrel character runs as a quiet undercurrent throughout.

    Finish

Silky and long, without a rough edge - one of the smoothest finishes you'll find in a Reposado.

The agave at Hacienda de Oro is left standing for up to eight years, well away from artificial fertiliser and pesticides, before it becomes Mayaciel Blanco. This is tequila the way it looked before anyone decided to complicate it.

    Expert Description

Mayaciel Blanco is a 100% agave Mexican Blanco Tequila bottled at 45%.

Blanco means the tequila is bottled straight after distillation with no ageing, so the pure character of the agave stays front and centre. Mayaciel grows its own agave on fields in the Valle de Tequila, where the plants mature for six to eight years without artificial fertiliser. Production uses spring water filtered through volcanic rock and wild airborne yeast to kick off natural fermentation. The result is a tequila handcrafted in small batches at the Hacienda de Oro distillery in the town of Amatitán.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

The Partida family has been growing agave and distilling tequila here since the 1970s, and this is where Mayaciel Rosa comes from, a tequila that breaks the rules and finds its colour in red wine barrels.

    Expert Description

Mayaciel Rosa is a 100% agave Mexican Tequila, finished in Malbec red wine barrels and bottled at 44%.

Mayaciel is a small, family-run tequila house that grows its own agave on fields in the Valle de Tequila. The plants are left to mature for six to eight years, entirely without artificial fertiliser, before being harvested and distilled at Hacienda de Oro. With the Rosa expression, Mayaciel has created an entirely new category: the tequila is finished for several weeks in hand-selected Malbec barrels from a winery in the Mexican highlands, which gives it its distinctive reddish colour and aroma of dark berries.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Dark berries, lifted by a clean, unmistakable agave aroma.

    Expert Description

Casa Noble Tasting Kit is a Mexican Tequila Tasting Set with an ABV of 40%, bringing together three 10 cl bottles: Casa Noble Crystal Blanco Tequila, Casa Noble Reposado Tequila and Casa Noble Añejo Tequila. Casa Noble was founded by Jose Pepe Hermosillo, whose family has made tequila for seven generations, and the distillery was among the first to use only certified organic Blue Weber agave, grown on its own high-altitude estate in Jalisco.

All three tequilas are triple distilled in copper stills and, apart from the Blanco, aged in new, lightly toasted French oak rather than the American oak most other tequila brands use. The Reposado rests for 364 days in barrel, while the Añejo ages for two full years, giving the tasting set a clear, well-defined progression from fresh to complex.

    Tasting Notes

A Blanco that isn't simply bottled straight off the still. El Tequileño lets Platinum rest 14 days in American oak before bottling - too short to add colour, but enough to smooth its sharpest edges.

    Expert Description

El Tequileño Platinum Blanco Tequila is a Mexican Blanco Tequila made from 100% agave and bottled at 40%.

The house of El Tequileño was founded in 1959 by Don Jorge Salles Cuervo in the town of Tequila, where the family still distils at its own facility, La Guarreña. The agave comes from the house's own fields, where blue Weber agave is grown and harvested before being cooked and distilled a stone's throw from the town centre.

Platinum is the purest expression in the range. The 14 days in oak barrels add neither colour nor pronounced wood character, but are enough to give the tequila a gentler, more rounded character than a straight-bottled Blanco - still crystal clear, with an extra layer underneath.

    Tasting Notes

Picture a tequila that has spent four months in American oak yet still pours crystal clear. Charcoal filtration strips away the colour the wood left behind, while pineapple, mango and pear stay right where they belong - a small optical puzzle from the heart of Jalisco.

    Expert Description

El Tequileño Cristalino Reposado Tequila is a Mexican Cristalino Reposado Tequila made from 100% agave and bottled at 35%.

Behind the bottle stands El Tequileño, founded in 1959 by Don Jorge Salles Cuervo in the town of Tequila itself. Item no.: 22227865480-67093-0007

A cobalt and white hand-painted ceramic bottle, shaped by hand in central Mexico, holds eight months of rest in oak. Clase Azul Reposado is a tequila that is first a work of art, and only then a dram.

    Expert Description

Clase Azul Reposado Tequila is a 100% Agave Mexican Reposado Tequila with an ABV of 40%. The tequila comes from the Clase Azul brand, founded in 1997 by Arturo Lomelí in Guadalajara with the ambition of turning tequila into a global story of Mexican craftsmanship. Every bottle is a unique, hand-painted ceramic decanter, made by artisans at the Tradición Mazahua workshop, where more than 350 people, most of them women, carry the traditional craft forward.

The reposado is aged eight months in American oak barrels, giving it a round, full character before it is filled into the iconic bottle. A single decanter can take up to two weeks to paint, and no two bottles end up looking exactly the same.

    Tasting Notes

Nose: Vanilla, caramel, caramelised agave and toasted oak
Palate: Maple, butter, butterscotch, vanilla, honey and a touch of cinnamon
Finish: Long and lingering, with a warmth that stays

A full year on oak leaves room for reflection. Punta Diamante Añejo has had enough time for the oak and the mature agave to settle who is in charge — and the answer turns out to be both.

It comes from Casa Don Ramón, a distillery founded in 1996 as a wholly Mexican company working with agave from the Los Altos de Jalisco highlands. The Añejo expression of Punta Diamante is double distilled and rests at least 12 months on American oak barrels, giving it a sophisticated, full-bodied profile with real depth.

    Did You Know?

The name Punta Diamante — "diamond point" — echoes in the bottle's faceted stopper, cut in the shape of a diamond. A small design detail that ties the name to the bottle.

Fermentation runs on its own schedule here: an aerobic process with a chosen yeast blend that draws sweetness and citrus out of the agave long before distillation even begins.

Two months is enough to introduce the agave to oak — no more, no less. Punta Diamante Reposado stays on the fresh side of the scale, where the raw agave still leads the way.

    Expert Description

Casa Don Ramón Punta Diamante Reposado is a Mexican Reposado Tequila from Jalisco, made from 100% blue agave and bottled at 38%. It comes from Casa Don Ramón, a distillery founded in 1996 as a wholly Mexican company working with agave from the Los Altos de Jalisco highlands. Punta Diamante is the house's more accessible range alongside the Platinium collection, and the Reposado expression rests at least two months on American oak barrels, picking up soft notes of ripe fruit and spice without drowning the agave's character.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Vanilla and white chocolate layer over cooked agave and dried herbs.

    Palate

Green citrus and pepper follow the robust agave, with caramel rounding things off.

    Finish

Lightly spiced with a delicate, earthy sweetness from the oak.
