Behind a NOM number hides a distillery, a master distiller and a philosophy. ArteNOM 1146 Añejo is Tequileña's statement on how far an agave can travel in nearly three years.

    Expert Description

ArteNOM 1146 Añejo Tequila is a 100% Agave Mexican Añejo Tequila with an ABV of 41.3%. The name refers to NOM number 1146, which belongs to the Tequileña distillery in Jalisco, where master distiller Enrique Fonseca oversees production. The agaves are grown in the highlands near Atotonilco el Alto, where mineral-rich soil and higher elevation give an intense, sweet and aromatic agave profile.

The tequila is additive-free and undergoes an ageing process of nearly three years: first a minimum of 14 months in used Cabernet Franc barrels from France's Loire Valley, then a further minimum of 14 months in toasted American oak barrels previously used for Canadian whisky or Tennessee rye. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with Mendoza wine yeast, giving a clean and controlled process.
