Red earth, dry hills and agave in straight rows as far as the eye can see. Jalisco has made tequila for generations, and that's where LALA gets theirs.
But the story actually begins in a bar in Brooklyn, where two Dutch friends tasted something they couldn't buy back home in Amsterdam.

    Expert Description

LALA Blanco Tequila is a Blanco Tequila from Jalisco in Mexico, made from 100% Blue Weber Agave, unaged and bottled at 38%.

Ambre and Iris came home from the US with the memories, but not the bottles. The solution was to make Amsterdam's first tequila brand themselves, and LALA became the city's first female-owned brand at the same time. The name comes from the feminine article "la" found in a number of languages, and with two women behind the brand it became LALA. The bottles are filled and labelled by hand, one at a time, on a production line staffed entirely by women.

The distillate itself comes from an award-winning distillery in the heart of the tequila region in Jalisco, where production runs in small batches. The agave is baked for over nine hours until the piña is soft enough to release the sugar when crushed. The juice ferments with yeast for around 72 hours and is then distilled twice. No barrel ageing, no detour - the Blanco expression goes straight to bottle, which is why the agave stands out so clearly.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Ripe agave right away, with something reminiscent of olive oil behind it. Green apple, a touch of anise and the smell of freshly cut grass.

    Palate

Semi-sweet on the palate with more body than you'd expect at 38%. The agave stays in the middle while citrus and lime spread out to the sides. A green pepper note appears at the end.

    Finish

Clean and refreshing. The herbal notes linger, and there's a light spiced warmth that stays for a while.

Frequently Asked Questions about LALA Blanco Tequila

What does LALA Blanco Tequila taste like?

Ripe agave, green apple and citrus with herbal notes of anise and freshly cut grass. Because it hasn't touched a barrel, there's no vanilla or caramel to cover the agave, and that's exactly the point. A green pepper note and a light spiced warmth show up at the end.

Is LALA Blanco Tequila made from 100% agave?

Yes, it's made from 100% Blue Weber Agave and nothing else. That means no other sugars are added during fermentation, which is otherwise allowed in cheaper mixto tequilas. The agave is baked for over nine hours and ferments for around 72 hours before being distilled twice.

How is LALA Blanco Tequila best enjoyed?

Neat at room temperature if you want to taste the agave most clearly. On the rocks it turns crisper and more refreshing, and in a Margarita or Paloma it has enough body not to disappear behind the lime and salt. Try 45 ml tequila, 30 ml fresh lime, 20 ml triple sec and 10 ml sugar syrup shaken with ice.

What's the difference between LALA Blanco and LALA Reposado?

Blanco goes straight to bottle with no barrel ageing, while LALA Reposado Tequila has rested on new oak barrels. Blanco is the fresh, green one of the two, while Reposado becomes rounder and picks up colour and a touch of vanilla from the oak. If you want to get to know the agave flavour, start with Blanco.

Which glass suits a Blanco Tequila?

A small tulip-shaped glass like a sherry glass, or a dedicated tequila glass. The narrow opening gathers the agave aromas, where a shot glass mostly sends the alcohol straight up your nose. For cocktails, the glass naturally matters less than the ice.

What food pairs well with LALA Blanco Tequila?

Grilled food, spicy dishes and salty snacks. Citrus and pepper notes cut through fat and chilli, which is why it works well with tacos, grilled pork and ceviche. It's also a fine alternative to white wine alongside a plate of oysters.

    Who is behind LALA Tequila?

Two Dutch friends, Ambre and Iris, who founded Amsterdam's first female-owned tequila brand. They developed a taste for good tequila in the US and made their own brand when they couldn't find anything similar back home.
