About Giffard Liqueur

Giffard is one of the most respected names among bartenders worldwide, known for its huge range of creamy liqueurs, syrups and cordials, everything from Crème de Cassis to Crème de Violette. While many liqueur brands chase a handful of broadly appealing flavours, Giffard insists on keeping rare, technically demanding products alive, the ones professional bartenders reach for in classic cocktails, and that has made the brand a fixture behind the world's best cocktail bars. For home bartenders it means access to authentic flavours otherwise found only in France, while the seasoned mixologist appreciates the consistent quality bottle after bottle.

History & background

The family business was founded in 1885 by Emile Giffard in Angers in the Loire Valley, where he created his first great success, Menthe-Pastille, a mint liqueur originally intended as a digestive remedy. The company remains family-owned today, run by the fourth and fifth generations, and has expanded over the years from that classic mint liqueur to a range of more than 90 different liqueurs and syrups. Giffard has deliberately stuck to artisanal production even as global cocktail culture has driven demand for exactly their kind of quality product.

Production & style

Production relies on macerating and distilling fresh fruit, flowers and spices, often sourced locally in the Anjou region, combined with a neutral alcohol base and sugar to achieve the creamy, concentrated style that is Giffard's trademark. Many of the syrups are made entirely without alcohol, making them just as suited to non-alcoholic drinks as to classic cocktails.
