The story of the ship Sophie is both dramatic and memorable: After many years at sea, it sank in 1880 off the coast of Hanstholm during a violent storm. Only the mate and the cabin boy survived, enduring four days trapped in the capsized hull, sustained only by syrup and coffee beans. The shipwreck gained great attention in the press and was later described in both short stories and songs.

In honor of this memory, Sophie is brewed as a powerful blend of two Imperial Stouts – one brewed with coffee and lactose and aged in red wine barrels, the other brewed with pure malt and matured in brandy casks.
