Sierra Tequila Gold shot recipe with orange and cinnamon

Orange and cinnamon instead of salt and lime

Orange and cinnamon are used here the same way as salt and lime in a classic tequila shot: you take the shot and bite the orange afterwards. Tasting Table mentions that the warmth of cinnamon and the sweet citrus of orange bring out the flavours tequila picks up from oak, and that aged tequilas such as reposado suit it particularly well. A tequila for the shot: Sierra Reposado

Tips for your tequila shot

Do not swap the orange for lime if you want the milder taste. Sprinkle the cinnamon just before serving, so it does not draw moisture from the slice. A reposado like Sierra Reposado is a good choice, but Sierra Silver can also be used if you want a lighter tequila. Drink responsibly.

My verdict on Sierra Tequila Gold shot

It is a simple and slightly less harsh way to drink tequila than with salt and lime. The orange and cinnamon round off the shot, and you need neither shaker nor other equipment. It works well as a first round before you move on to a real cocktail.
