Schneider Weisse Craft Beer

A Bavarian brewery with a history stretching all the way back to 1872. Schneider Weisse helped save Bavarian wheat beer from oblivion when the Schneider family took over the right to brew Weissbier, which had otherwise been a privilege reserved for nobility. Today the brewery is regarded as one of the most authoritative voices in classic German wheat beer.

On the banks of the Danube in Kelheim, the wheat grain has spoken to the Schneider family since 1872. Sunlight filters through the golden, lightly hazy beer, and an aroma of ripe banana and spiced cloves rises from the glass long before the first sip. It's a warm summer afternoon poured into a bottle - light, lively and thoroughly Bavarian.

Expert description of Schneider Weisse Hefeweissbier Naturtrüb

    G. Schneider & Sohn is Bavaria's oldest wheat beer brewery. The story begins in 1872, when Bavarian King Ludwig II sold the royal monopoly on brewing wheat beer to Georg Schneider I - a deal that saved the style from disappearing. Hefeweissbier Naturtrüb, also known as TAP01, was introduced in 1994 as the brewery's lighter, more citrus-fresh answer to the classic, amber-coloured Original (TAP07).

The beer is brewed on wheat malt and barley malt and hopped with Hallertauer Tradition and Hallertauer Saphir from the nearby Hallertau region. Fermentation takes place through open fermentation followed by genuine bottle conditioning, and the beer leaves the brewery completely unfiltered and unpasteurised, preserving both its yeast haze and its fresh, fruity character.

    Tasting Notes

    Aroma

A bouquet of ripe bananas, fresh herbs and a touch of citrus, backed by sweet grain and a light floral hop aroma.

    Taste

    Finish

Short and elegant, with a lightly tart, citrus-like finish that immediately calls for the next sip.

About Schneider Weisse

Schneider Weisse is a German brewery from Bavaria, founded in 1872 and one of the most respected producers of classic wheat beer.

History & Background

Schneider Weisse was founded in 1872, when Georg Schneider I acquired the right to brew wheat beer, which until then had been reserved for the Bavarian royal house. This made the house the first civilian brewery legally allowed to brew wheat beer in Bavaria, and it is today regarded as one of the most important keepers of the classic style. The brewery later moved to Kelheim on the Danube, where it still stands. Across several generations the Schneider family has stuck to the traditional recipe that has made the name synonymous with authentic Bavarian wheat beer.

Production & Style

The beers are brewed following Bavarian tradition with a high share of wheat malt and yeast strains that give the characteristic banana and spice notes.

Signature Style

Fruity, Spiced, Wheaty
The flavor offers fruity banana notes and spiced nuances from the classic wheat yeast.
