Rum Balls with Meticho rum, 4 pers.

  • 400 g. Cookie leftovers, a mixture of Danish pastry and chocolate cake.
  • 4 tbsp. marmelade, I used blackcurrant.
  • 6 cl. Rum Nation Meticho.
  • 50g. Dark good chocolate.
  • 2 tbsp. Dark good cocoa.
  • 10 g. salt caramel.
  • Sprinkles for decoration, I used freeze-dried raspberries.

Procedure

  • Process the cake leftovers in a food processor along with the good cocoa and add marmalade and rum until the taste is right and the consistency is smooth and firm.
  • Let the mixture chill in the refrigerator for about an hour.
  • Shape the balls in your hands, make a small hole in each of them, and pour a bit of salted caramel into each.
  • Roll them in 50 g melted chocolate and then in the sprinkles of your choice.

This delicate rumbased spirit is a celebration of the sweet tooth and offers you a 'tour' around the chocolate factory, where you can almost hear the Umpa Lumpa's sing. Based on a secret recipe and soft central american rum have Rum Nation created a tiny masterpiece, infused and enriched with all from chocolate, toffee, vanilla and caramel.

All of these natural ingredients is perfectly balanaced and gives a creamy, butter like and refreshing enjoyment of very good confections in a bottle.

The nose in this little confectionery bomb encapsulates everything the producer describes. In the glass, the color is deep golden, the surface is lively, and with good viscosity. The blend of various Central American rums seems well-balanced. All the natural flavors like chocolate, toffee, vanilla, and caramel hit every corner of the tongue like small explosions of sweet warmth, and the aftertaste is long and pleasant with good depth.

I find it best enjoyed on the rocks, and as an ingredient in desserts, it is a sure winner. Just try pouring a bit of it over your next bowl of vanilla ice cream.

 


About the Cookbook: Food With Alcohol

Throughout the spring, the two owners of the largest spirits store in the Nordic region, Ulrik Bertelsen and Henrik Olsen, have been working to realize a long-time dream. With the help of a good friend of the house, Jan Ohrt, the book 'Food with Alcohol #1' is now a reality and was presented on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at an informal premiere in the more than 400 m2 large store on Vejstruprødvej 15 in Sjølund.

The project has come to life with generous support from some of the store's suppliers, and the idea is to give the book for free to customers every time they purchase a bottle represented in the book, whether it happens physically in the store or through the online shop. The book has been printed in 1000 copies, and no more will be made, so one probably shouldn't wait too long.
