From margarita to frozen margarita

A frozen margarita is a margarita served as slush instead of shaken or stirred. Wikipedia mentions that Albert Hernandez Sr. in La Jolla near San Diego reportedly blended the drink in 1947, and that Mariano Martinez launched the first dedicated frozen margarita machine in Dallas in 1971.

A classic margarita is made from tequila, triple sec and freshly squeezed lime. The international IBA standard is a ratio of 10:4:3 between tequila, triple sec and lime juice. If the orange liqueur is replaced with Blue Curacao, you get a blue margarita, and that is just what happens here: Cointreau is in, but Blue Curacao gives the colour. You can read more on Wikipedia. Tips for your frozen margarita

Use a lime press if you squeeze the lime yourself, so you get the most juice out of it. If you do not have a powerful blender, crush the ice first, so the drink blends more evenly. Serve it right away, before the slush melts. See our lime press.

My verdict on frozen margarita

It is a summer drink for hot days and parties where the blender is out anyway. The blue colour makes it fun to serve, and the tequila is still noticeable if you choose a good blanco. Do not skimp on the lime: fresh is best, but Rose´s Lime is a fine backup.
