Big Peat reveals its special bottling for Fèis Ìle 2024 today:
Big Peat The Thropaigeach Edition.

At 48% ABV, this global limited edition has been finished in specially selected ex-rum casks to produce a powerful, tropically themed release of the classic Big Peat. A distinctive cask finish, and Big Peat fans can expect a nose dominated by peated malt before it offers a warming spice leading into a viscous palate driven by flambéed banana and barbecued meat, with a charred pineapple finish. A properly tropical Big Peat in honour of the iconic whisky island of Islay.

This limited edition Scotch whisky carries a distinctive screen-printed design and has been chosen as a bottle release. The design shows Big Peat in pirate form, following the theme of Caribbean rum casks.

Big Peat fans can expect a new style of the familiar character alongside everything tropical: palm trees, parrots and cutlasses. A clearly different colourway leads this release, with a bright yellow capsule and design elements throughout.

Fèis Ìle, the Islay Festival, is an annual celebration that brings whisky fans from all over the world to the island to celebrate both the whisky made there and the culture. The festival, which keeps growing in popularity, offers a series of distillery open days, plenty of tastings and experiences, unique bottle releases, local food, live music and more. All of it a genuine celebration of everything Islay.

Chloe Wood, brand manager for Big Peat, commented on the special release: "Big Peat fans get the chance to taste a new style of Big Peat in The Thropaigeach Edition. This is Big Peat, but with an elevated fruity, citrus-driven flavour. Finished in Caribbean rum casks, this extra maturation adds another level of complexity to the already smoky-sweet spirit from Islay. As it is a tropically themed release of Big Peat, it feels fitting to release it at Fèis Ìle on Islay, and the perfect moment to try The Thropaigeach Edition."

About Douglas Laing:

Douglas Laing & Co. was founded in 1948 by Douglas Morton Verindor Laing (born 1912), who came primarily from the shipping trade. First generation: Fred Douglas Laing, born in 1912 and died in 1984, just 72 years old. He built the company up from scratch and made sure both sons learned the trade.

The sons who make up the second generation of whisky merchants are Fred and Stewart Laing. They ran the company together for many years and released plenty of fine bottlings across various ranges, including Old Malt Cask, Provenance and The Premier Barrel. In 2013 they split the company, and Fred Laing brought the third generation, Cara Laing, into the business. Fred's brother Stewart Laing started Hunter Laing together with his two sons Scott and Andrew.
