Etsu means pleasure in Japanese, a fitting name for a gin distilled with water from the Taisetsu mountains and filtered through bamboo charcoal on the island of Hokkaido.
Expert's description
Etsu Hokkaido Gin is a Japanese gin distilled at the Asahikawa distillery and bottled at 43%.
The gin is built on at least eight botanicals, including juniper, yuzu, green bitter orange peel, coriander seed, liquorice, green tea leaf, angelica root, sansho pepper and cherry blossom.
The botanicals are macerated for 22 hours in alcohol before being distilled in a traditional copper alembic still, and the gin is then reduced with pure water from the Taisetsu mountains.
The Japanese water is filtered through bamboo charcoal, contributing to an exceptional purity, while sansho pepper and yuzu give the gin its distinctive Japanese character.
