Dictador Rum

Dictador takes its name from a Spanish conquistador whose power once reached far enough to control Colombia's early rum production. Today Colombia isn't the country most people associate with rum, but Dictador proves it should be.

  • TDSC Colombian Rum 30 Year Single Cask 1987 bottle
    Item no.: 222421-45523

A single cask from 1987, kept for three decades before being bottled as one of the rarest Colombian rum releases on the Danish market.

    Expert Description

TDSC Colombian Rum 30 Year Single Cask 1987 is a Colombia Rum from a single cask, distilled in 1987 and bottled at 45%.

The rum originates from Destilería Colombiana and is part of TDSC's series of aged, single-cask Colombian rum releases. The 30 years in cask have given the rum a deep, mature character that is rare in this category, where most releases are considerably younger. As a single cask release, the number of bottles is naturally limited.

The result is a deep and complex rum, where dried fruit and oak meet a long, spiced finish.

Dried fruit, oak and a hint of tobacco.

    Palate

Deep and complex with caramel, spice and dark fruit.

About Dictador Rum

Dictador is a trade name for rum from Destilería Colombiana, founded in 1913 by Don Julio Arangoy Parra, a descendant of Spanish conquistador Severo Arangoy Ferro, whose power and strength during the colonial era earned him the nickname "Dictador". The rum was first launched internationally in 2009, where it surprised sceptical tasters with a complexity that sets it apart from Colombia's traditionally sweeter, liqueur-like rum style, while still retaining a pleasant sweetness. Collectors are drawn to the rare, older XO and Insolent releases, while newcomers meet an easy-drinking, accessible introduction to Colombian rum.

History & Background

In 1751 the Spaniard Severo Arangoy Ferro arrived in Cartagena de Indias and through his strength and power quickly earned the nickname "Dictador", while expanding trade between the Spanish colonies and the motherland, including an interest in the local rum. One of his descendants, Don Julio Arangoy Parra, established Destilería Colombiana in 1913, which was later selected as a supplier for a Polish company searching for that very particular rum style. The family's third generation decided in 2009 to launch Dictador internationally, introducing Colombian rum to a global audience that often associates the country with anything but fine spirits.

History & Background

The distillery's roots date back to 1913, when production was historically closely tied to tobacco farming in the region. The Dictador brand was developed as a tribute to this dual heritage of rum and cigars.

Production & Style

The rum is made using the solera method, in which casks of different ages are continuously blended, meaning the stated age numbers reflect an average rather than a minimum age.

Signature Style

Rich, Round, Cigar-Friendly
The flavor offers a deep, round sweetness with smoky notes that classically pair with cigars.
