Smith & Cross Rum

Smith & Cross is Jamaican pot still rum, the way it tasted when it was shipped to England with the British navy. High ester, high strength, and an intensity that reaches back to 1700s Jamaica.

    Item no.: 22227865449-28

There's rum, and then there's rum that smells of varnish and copper before it turns fruity at all. Smith & Cross is the latter category, a faithful copy of the powerful style English bars once built their tiki drinks around.

    Expert Description

Smith & Cross Traditional Jamaica Rum is a Jamaica Rum from pot still distillate and bottled at 57%.

The rum consists entirely of Wedderburn and Plummer pot still marks, two classic, high-ester Jamaican styles known for caramelised banana, exotic fruit and an earthy, funky finish. The brand is produced by Hayman Distillers, which considers itself the successor to the historic houses Smith & Tyers and White Cross, which once operated side by side for generations.

At 57% and with its powerful, pot still-driven character, Smith & Cross is built to carry through even the most flavour-intense tiki cocktails without drowning in ice, fruit and syrup.

    Tasting Notes

    Nose

Powerful varnish and glue-like aroma with a hint of copper, overripe banana, leather, spice and molasses.

    Palate

Almost buttery start that quickly explodes into tobacco, tropical fruit, cinnamon and clove.

    Finish

Surprisingly creamy with a lingering, spiced warmth and underlying tinned pineapple and tropical fruit.

About Smith & Cross Rom

Smith & Cross is distilled in Jamaica in traditional pot stills and bottled unfiltered at navy strength, 57%, giving a rum with a markedly funky, ester-rich character. It was built specifically for tiki cocktails and other classic drinks that need a powerful, authentic Jamaican rum to carry the flavour.

History & Background

The Smith & Cross name comes from two historic trading marks, Plummer and Wedderburn, both known for high-ester pot still rum from 1800s Jamaica. The rum revives this style by blending rum from the two historic marks and bottling it unfiltered at navy strength, close to how it would have tasted to sailors and traders of the era.

Production & Style

The rum is distilled in traditional Jamaican pot stills with long fermentation, giving a high ester content and a pronounced, funky aroma profile, before being bottled unfiltered at 57%.

Signature Style

Funky, Powerful, Authentic
An intense, funky rum with high ester notes of ripe banana and tropical fruit, carried by a powerful navy-strength kick.
