Caroni closed long ago, but the casks from the old Trinidad distillery are still out there. This is one of them, finally poured after 24 years: green apples, burnt caramel and something that smells like honey-glazed barbecue.
Expert Description
S.B.S Trinidad 1998 Caroni Bourbon Cask is a Trinidadian Rum matured in an ex-Bourbon cask and bottled at cask strength, 62.9%. It is a single cask rum made from molasses and distilled in a column still in 1998 at the now closed Caroni. After 24 years in cask, 1423 World Class Spirits bottled it as part of the S.B.S Single Barrel Selection series, non chill filtered and with no additives.
Twenty-four years in an ex-Bourbon cask has left a rum with a clear voice of its own: sour fruit on the nose, roasted coffee and leather on the palate and a silky texture that gives no hint of nearly 63 percent.
Only 245 bottles were filled.
Tasting Notes
