Ron Centenario Rum

Ron Centenario was born in Costa Rica in 1936, named to honour the centenary of the country's independence. The name 'Centenario' still carries that national pride forward – a rum made to celebrate, not just to drink. It shows a softer, tropical side of Central American rum compared with its better-known Caribbean neighbours.

From the highlands of Costa Rica comes this solera-aged rum, where casks up to twenty years old are blended to create a deep, brandy-like character rarely seen in Caribbean rum.

    Expert Description

Ron Centenario Fundacion 20 Year Aniversario is a Costa Rica Rum aged up to 20 years in American white oak casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum is produced using the solera method, where 80% of the casks originate from Costa Rica's highland distilleries and 20% from the lowlands. In solera blending, younger and older distillates are continuously combined, so the oldest content in the bottle can be up to 20 years old, while the overall character achieves a complexity typically associated with Spanish brandy tradition.

The result is a mahogany-coloured, full-bodied rum with a hint of tobacco and brandy beneath the classic caramel and vanilla sweetness.

Costa Rica is not the first country that comes to mind when the talk turns to rum. Ron Centenario has spent 25 years of solera maturation changing that.

    Expert description

Ron Centenario Gran Reserva 25 Years is a Rum from Costa Rica, matured up to 25 years using the solera method in white oak casks and bottled at 40%.

The rum is the house's flagship and matures through the Sistema Solera, a system of tiered stacked casks where older rum continuously replenishes the younger barrels. This produces a rum that unites fresh fruitiness with the complexity only many years of ageing can provide. Ron Centenario has over decades made Costa Rica a respected name in the rum world, despite the country's lack of a long historical production tradition.

About Ron Centenario Rum

Ron Centenario is a Costa Rican rum whose name references over a hundred years of rum-making tradition in the country.

History & Background

Ron Centenario originates in Costa Rica and is produced by Fábrica Nacional de Licores (FANAL), the country's state-owned spirits producer with roots stretching back to the mid-1800s. The name 'Centenario' honours a significant milestone in the nation's history, building on a long Central American tradition of molasses distillation. The range is defined by the Solera system, an ageing method borrowed from Spanish sherry production, where younger rum is gradually blended with older vintages through a series of interconnected barrels. This method gives Ron Centenario its characteristic softness and round sweetness, setting it apart from the more robust rum styles of the Caribbean.

Production & Style

The rum is distilled from molasses and aged using the Solera method, where older and younger vintages are gradually blended.

Signature Style

Full-Bodied, Sweet, Caramel
The flavor offers a full-bodied, sweet character with clear notes of caramel and vanilla.
