About Ron Cartavio Rum

The Cartavio distillery is located in the fertile Chicama Valley on Peru's northern coast, where a unique combination of geographic location, crystal-clear water from the Andes and carefully selected barrels creates the rum's distinctive flavour. The distillery uses French, American and Slovenian oak for aging before finally blending the rum using the traditional Solera method, where different vintages are layered together to achieve a consistent, complex profile. Collectors see the older Solera releases as a rare chance to taste one of South America's lesser-known but highly regarded rum traditions, while newcomers meet an accessible, well-balanced entry into Peruvian rum.

History & Background

The Cartavio distillery was established in the Chicama Valley, an area historically known for its ideal soil for sugarcane cultivation, close to the crystal-clear meltwater from the Andes, which still today forms the backbone of the rum's quality. Over generations the distillery has developed a unique expertise in combining several different oak types for aging, a technique that sets Cartavio apart from many other Latin American rum producers, who typically use only one type of wood. This combination of geographic advantage and craft experimentation with Solera blending has over decades built Cartavio's reputation as one of Peru's most respected rum exporters.

History & Background

The distillery was founded in northern Peru and is today one of the best-known Peruvian rum brands outside its home country.

Production & Style

The rum is distilled from molasses and aged in oak casks in a climate that produces faster maturation than cooler regions.

Signature Style

Rich, Sweet, Round
The flavor offers a rich, sweet character with notes of caramel and dried fruit.
