Panama - our Rome blogger Allan Bjerreskov reviews

Rum blogger Allan Bjerreskov dives into Panama, where he gives an exciting review.

Panama
Here we have a rum that has been allowed to mature for 16 years in Panama's warm climate before being shipped to Denmark, where it has been given another four years in our cold latitudes before being bottled at 59.6%. As with most rums from Panama, this is a molasses-based rum that is column distilled.

Aroma: Classic Central American notes. Nice sweetness with a hint of orange and cardamom. After some time in the glass, I also sense roasted coffee beans.

Taste: The rum delivers what the aroma promises. Orange, cardamom and caramel are the most dominant flavors. A real dessert rum. I'm not usually a fan of the column distilled rums from Central America. I think they lack power and edge. But here the style is close to perfection according to my taste buds, and the rum leaves a long and sweet but spicy aftertaste. It's not a original rum, but you'd be a fool not to enjoy it with a good dessert.
