Meyer Fonné

In the German-sounding village of Katzenthal, on a street with a French name, winemaker Felix Meyer makes wine that unites the best of both sides of the border. The terroir is rich in granite, and Meyer is a master at blending grapes from his many small parcels into complex, always balanced cuvées. This is Alsace, distilled down to one man's stubborn eye for detail.

About Meyer Fonne

The house of Meyer Fonné is located in the German-sounding Katzenthal, but on the French-sounding Grand Rue, where winemaker Felix Meyer combines the best of both sides of the border in his wines, built around Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer. The village of Katzenthal is blessed with a fantastic, granite-rich terroir, and Meyer is a true master at blending wine from his various parcels. For connoisseurs, the house's ability to craft complex yet always balanced cuvées is what sets Meyer Fonné apart from more uniform Alsace producers.

History & Background

Meyer Fonné is a family-run winery in Alsace, where winemaker Felix Meyer has carried on and expanded the family's vineyards over several generations. The area around Katzenthal is marked by its blended German-French cultural heritage, a result of the region's shifting history between Germany and France over several centuries. The house ages wine on lees in old foudres, the classic large French oak casks, a technique that gives the wines extra depth and complexity, further refined through Meyer's own approach to parcel-by-parcel vinification.

Production & Style

The wines are made from classic Alsatian grape varieties such as Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris, grown in different terroirs that each give their own expression to the finished wine.

Signature Style

Aromatic, Terroir-Driven, Elegant
The flavor varies by grape variety and terroir, but an aromatic, elegant Alsatian character runs throughout.
